Re: How would you rate the trunks arc compared to the others
Best arc in the franchise for me.
I was dismissive about the idea of "Evil Goku", but Goku Black delivered in spades. We also got fantastic development with Future Trunks' character, Zamasu was a fantastically written character as a whole and the best main villain Dragon Ball has ever created and the best written villain Dragon Ball ever had, some of the animation in the arc is the best we've ever seen from Dragon Ball. The ending was a total shocker but was also heartbreaking and surprisingly heartwarming and made me go through emotions that I had never gone through before when watching Dragon Ball. While bittersweet, the ending of the arc was heartfelt and very conclusive. It's Dragon Ball's most mature arc by leaps and bounds and the apex of storytelling in the franchise. I have a hard time thinking how Super will top this.
Here's my current ranking of arcs from best to worst:
- Future Trunks
- Saiyan
- Freeza
- King Piccolo
- Majin Boo
- Champa/Universe 6
- Namek
- Red Ribbon Army
- 22nd Budokai Tenkaichi
- Battle Of Gods
- Hunt For The Dragon Balls
- Cell
- Android/Artificial Human
- Shadow Dragon
- Baby
- Black Star Dragon Ball
- Resurrection F
- Monaka
- Garlic Jr
- Super 17

Re: How would you rate the trunks arc compared to the others
Goku black himself was a great character, though and Trunks seems to be the character that usually develops the most emotionally among the cast which is what I do like about him. Hes the only one that feels like a real protagonist in this series. Ignoring his OPness in this arc his character development was consistent and the most natural in the series next to Krillin, Piccolo and Vegeta to me. As for the arc itself I felt it could have had more to it. For a major arc in the series it didn't feel like the villains did all that much in comparison to Buu or Cell. Most what Zamasu did to push his plan was also off screen and not actually built up to and the messy time-travel logic and Zamasu's reasoning didn't seem to work for me. Though the last half of the fight and the ending were probably the worst in the series. Beyond Toei's screw ups, the arc itself was pretty good. Better in the Manga though in my preference. My only problem is that there should have been an explanation for how Mai ended up with Trunks because it still seems like she just appeared out of no where.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Re: How would you rate the trunks arc compared to the others
I'm not going to compare it to other well written series, but just to the arcs of the DB franchise I enjoyed these arcs the most in DB.
Frieza saga 8/10
Cell Saga 7.8/10
Demon Piccolo arc 7.2/10
Saiyan Saga 7/10
Buu saga 6.5/10
Baby Saga 5.5/10
Black Goku arc 4.8/10
Shadow Dragons arc 4.5/10
A good starts with a 5/10 on my scale since I start counting with zero. So this arc was pretty cool/decent in my eyes.

Fairy Tail. It's such an amazing story and well writtendbs fanboy wrote: If a 5/10 is cool, i want to know how would a 10/10 be in your eyes (it would probably blow my mind beyond comprehension).
Nah, kidding ofcourse haha.
I don't think I've rated anything a 10 but some did come close and were rounded up to a 10 like a 9.5 or 9.7 for example.
Monster, the first part of Berserk and FMAB come into my mind. But yeah it needs to blow my mind, be unique, great world building, nice art, tension, good ending etc.
Ofcourse when watching DBZ for the first I thought that the middle two arcs were flawless and such and gave it a 10/10, but then you watch something else that's better and then that will become you're 10/10, meaning that your former will get a lower rating. That's how it started, and after watching many many years of anime and series, my scale became like this. I really liked the Shadow Dragons arc for example, but I gave it a 5/10 in comparison to the best thing I've seen. Otherwise I would have to start rating stuff a 11/10 or 12/10.
Re: How would you rate the trunks arc compared to the others
If we're considering only Super, I put it above RoF and below both BoG and the U6 arc.
Now, if we're considering the entire franchise, I regard it as one of the worst arcs, alongside Super-RoF and GT, and essentially almost all filler episodes/mini-arcs.

Re: How would you rate the trunks arc compared to the others
One of the strong points this arc delivered for me was the fact that we didn't know exactly what was going on most of the way through. Unlike most of DB, and about half of DBZ; key plot points were not entirely obvious at the beginning. It was a big shock to find out that Zamasu was actually Goku Black when I first saw episode 61. And then the whole thing with the timelines thing actually not being as simple as we thought previously back in the Android/Cell arcs.
And I'm glad the fights are worlds different from the first couple arcs of Super. I'll now give this series many more chances, I'll probably never give up on it.

The power scaling, ass pulls, retcons, time traveling, lack of explanations, body swapped Goku, Trunks' genki damage sword, his transformation, and the end ruined it imho. Basically everything about the arc was ass.
I mean, come on... they made a chart to TRY and explain the time traveling. Shit was ass.

I love Dragon Ball so much that I'm constantly complaining about how horrible Super is.
Black Goku / Future Trunks saga... was/is garbage.
Top 5 Favorite DBS Characters = Beerus, Whis, still waiting on the last 3 lol...

Still on my top 3 of the entire franchise. Right behind Buu arc (2nd) and Saiyan arc (1st).
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: How would you rate the Trunks arc compared to the others?
Easily the best arc in Super. Overall though? Still nowhere close to Freeza/Cell. But I would hope from now on Super maintains at least the level of Black arc
Most interesting, layered, polarizing and motivated next to Baby for sure. In this one aspect (the villains), I say GT/Super actually managed to beat DBZ. Nothing else thoughLord Beerus wrote:Zamasu was a fantastically written character as a whole and the best main villain Dragon Ball has ever created and the best written villain Dragon Ball ever had
Re: How would you rate the Trunks arc compared to the others?
I'm sticking with Dragon Ball Super, and compared to the other sagas of it, it is the best one so far. Toei's retellings were boring and way below the average. Universe 6 saga is cool but it is yet another unnecessary tournament. So Future Trunks saga is the best one so far, with its flaws of course.

Re: How would you rate the Trunks arc compared to the others?
I haven't really seen GT in YEARS,so I'm not including them in this list.
- Red Ribbon Army
- King Piccolo
- Saiyan
- 22nd Budokai Tenkaichi
- 21st Budokai Tenkaichi
- 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi
- Namek
- Androids
- Battle of Gods
- Future Trunks
- Champa
- Hunt For The Dragon Balls
- Buu
- Resurrection F
Main reason for Red Ribbon Army being so dang high up in my list is because it's the only arc where Toriyama used everyone. On Future Trunks, it's a really fun arc in terms of mystery and Goku Black, but I'm really conflicted on the ending and I really wish things were actually explained. The manga version seems to have promise though. Though, the only straight up bad one is Resurrection F for me.

Best saga even though it desperately needs 10 episodes more.
How could a saga that ends with a Final Fantasy main villain not be good.
