The thick line work can stay in episode 4. It looks good when used every now and then but the entirety of an episode? Hell no.

Anybody noticed how krillin was a lot taller by the end of this episode, when he got his head shaved and Goku asked him for a quick spar?? He looked a lot more like the DBZ cell arc Krillin.

Just saw the episode, outside of some breaking in the second half the art was reasonably strong, I'm guessing Paul Ano-nuevo's style is what dominated the first half (alongside a healthy does of Tsuji). What bothered me about the episode though is that the conservative animation was too slow at certain points and the storyboarding was very weak, but the episode was clearly not a focus so it's fine.
Shimanuki yet again has a light touch and some of his stuff is rather rough, hopefully because he's focused on another episode. Bringing Itai in to do a little bit of work in the second half is interesting since he just did 73, I'm guessing by the time they decide to bring one more person on the episode everyone else was probably too focused on episodes for the next arc and those in charge didn't want to mess up any future episodes for the sake of this filler episode.

That's how Yashima draws Bulma's face and you can see Yashima's trademark jaw and nose on Shin.

I did too. I hope the days of krillin reaching piccolo's knee cap are gone.

That Beerus and the Kai shot reminds me of Z.
And that Bulma shot reminds me of Futoshi Higashide's scene in Episode 67 where Trunks and Mai are leaving

Shimanuki really only showed up for a few minutes for the episode and when he was there his art was mainly rougher than usual, though he still managed to pull out some rather nice pieces of art.

His good looking stuff in this episode is very Z looking, which we also saw a bit of in episode 71.
Overall the small time that he was in this episode, coupled with most of his output being rough despite it having been 6 weeks since his last episode REALLY screams that he's busy with another episode, but that raises a huge question, when will that episode be? If his light touch in 71 was also because he was working on a different episode, that would mean he's been working on that episode alongside 71 and 76, which depending on when the episode falls it could tell us a bit about how long episodes will have in production going forward. If there is another 6 week gap between episodes that he's on but that episode has a heavy touch from him and his art is very polished that could mean the episode had more than 12 weeks in production, but even if it comes in 6 weeks and he started on it right after finishing work on 71 that's still 12 weeks. I'm very interested to see when his next episode will land and how it will look, it could tell us a lot.

Man, I see a lot of people praising the color palette in the NEP. More power to them I guess. I bet it will grow on me soon enough.

I like the colors, I just think the post effects need work. I'm pretty sure they're trying to make it look like cel animation and they are close to it, but still a ways off. I'm sure they'll get better at achieving the effect as time goes on, hell it might look better in the finished episode next week even.
I think the line work is part of that too, pretty much every frame we've seen from the next episode has a fair amount of line thickness variance and that would help achieve the cel look.

Now that I look at the NEP in HD I can say that this filter is growing up on me. I mean this image looks really cool with this color palette.
Image
Yeah, it sucks to be a negative minority. I hope I end up liking it.

Everything was ok in this episode, nothing really impressive though. I spotted Yashima in different shots in the PV, Goku vs Whis for example. I like the filter they used.

That was a disappointing episode. Hatano Kouhei's storyboard was awful and I felt whoever the director was had no presence.

As for the animation, it was conservative. Nothing to shout about. The nice, detailed and full of life backgrounds also vanished in this episode save for a couple of scenes. Ah, well #75 was always going to be an exception.

Anyways, looking forward to the start of the new story arc, more importantly the new OP.

It does have a serious "Orange Brick" vibe compared to what we've gotten before. However, I felt similarly about the mild blur on the Simulcast footage at first, and I'm over it. I'm probably just overreacting.

I love the new color palette, but it felt weird. Really weird.

Like, look at No. 18 skin. It doesn't look like a skin. In fact the skin looks pale white. I hope they tune it down a little bit. But, it's still an improvement over the old one.

EDIT:

Yeah... I think they've changed it immediately. But, somehow looking the new one looks refreshing.

The animation, and art was freaking amazing. But something about the color palette, was off. Okay I think it looks ugly.

Do you think next episode (episode 77) is gonna change director to Morio Hatano?

In my eye, it looks like episode 77 will have a good and unique storyboarding. Or maybe it's just the Episode Director.
But, I can't assume anything since it's a 30 seconds clip.
Goku humiliating a guy with a gun, and that close-up to Bulma's (pregnant) belly.
Really though, looking at Android 17 standing there like a badass. Also with Zeno playing those flying planet-like hologram balls.

EDIT: The colors palette reminds me of Dragon Ball: Ultimate Tenkaichi Opening (Maybe they're trying to be like the OP). They almost nailed it. Just a little bit I guess.

The staff for #77 was already revealed. The SB/ED for it is Karasawa Kazuya. As for whether Hatano Morio will become SD again, we'll have to wait and see. I highly doubt he'll be 1st credited again. I'll be more than happy to be wrong though.
