Re: Things that grind your gears
I've mostly been keeping up with Super via the summaries posted here so excuse me if I'm just not picking up on some things, but I really don't get Super Saiyan Rage. It seems incredibly inconsistent, and given how Future Trunks was pretty much just back for one arc as far as we know, I'm not sure they'll ever get a reasonable chance to explain a lot of important details, such as "how does a Super Saiyan 2 get strong enough to go roughly head-to-head with god ki users" or "where does this fit into the relatively well established progression of SS/SS2/SS3".
Don't be too alarmed if I just don't show up for a few months. Hooray for fleeting interests!

I'm not a big fan of Super Saiyan Rage, either. It just feels redundant since the Super Saiyan transformations were triggered by rage in the first place.

If anything, it's the name that contradicts how it's expressed on screen. It appears that Trunks triggers the "rage" that is likely akin to an explosion of anger from the half-Saiyan Gohan, but the energy and even muscle mass is seemingly absorbed into his body. It does this every time. Along with the blue glow (note: not blue aura or hair), one could assume that this falls in line with how SSB's transformation is explained - Ki control, specifically not letting it "leak out."Footlong Shoe wrote:I'm not a big fan of Super Saiyan Rage, either. While Goku and Vegeta learned what God ki felt like and learned to control it via this method (despite being poorly explained what God ki even is), Trunks does not have this benefit. It's apparent to me that he learned to do what Gohan couldn't: use his emotions to fuel his power and manipulate it on the spot. It doesn't necessarily explain why he's able to fight a god, but it's unlike anything we've ever seen before... and frankly, God ki is becoming more and more a different dimension of ki, rather than "it's x amount times stronger than base ki" or whatever.
So, if this was the case... isn't calling it "Super Saiyan Rage" a bit misleading? Shouldn't be more like "Super Saiyan Zen" or "Super Saiyan Calm"? Super Saiyan Calm Dafuq Down, idk
If there's anything that grinds my gears, though... it's how dang young everybody looks in Super. For example: If Bulma is the pargnent with Bra and we're aligning with the EoZ ages, Trunks is currently the same age (fourteen) as his future counterpart when Gohan was killed... yet still looks like he's ten. That's just one of the many examples I can give... that I'm sure lots of us have already covered in this topic thus far.
Don't even get me started on everybody wearing the same damn clothes for years.

Re: Things that grind your gears
I think the problem with Super Saiyan Rage is that it was left unexplained, there were a lot of chance to explain the form but the show never bothered. If Super Saiyan Rage is an alternate version of Super Saiyan Blue triggered by rage instead of being calm, then the form and its name makes perfect sense. (Honestly, this has always been my theory of Trunks’ form ever since the form was first shown.)
Most of the time, the form also looks ugly, but this is more on the animation problems in Super rather than the form itself looking ugly. When the form looks good, it looks really good (see episode #66), but when the form looks bad, it looks really bad. Visually speaking, my only problem with the form is the color, but it’s not that big of a deal.
On what grinds my gears, I get annoyed when people post a huge ass image and someone quotes it without even bothering to put a spoiler tag in it. Makes it even worse when the image is quoted multiple times by different people, making you see the same image over and over again in the same page.

I may just be overanalyzing, but Chi Chi mentioning how Goten sounded like he's grown, seemed like a hint, that he and Trunks will be teenage sized in the next arc.Lunaar wrote:If there's anything that grinds my gears, though... it's how dang young everybody looks in Super. I know it's art direction, but I can't get past it.
Yeah, that one is really annoying, especially, when they got new clothes, which would work well as new outfits for the new era of DB, but no we can't have that apparently.Don't even get me started on everybody wearing the same damn clothes for years.
Re: Things that grind your gears
Actually, I think there's a possibility that the Universal Survival Arc might explain it. As Fem!Broly's transformation takes on a appearance similar to what Trunks's Rage form was at the start. Maybe her transformation is a complete version of what was happening to Trunks.moochfloatjr wrote: and given how Future Trunks was pretty much just back for one arc as far as we know, I'm not sure they'll ever get a reasonable chance to explain a lot of important details,

I caught that too. I have high hopes for it, but there's nothing to show me that Toei ever thinks farther than concept art provided by Toriyama... which is a real bummer, because as a result:dbgtFO wrote:I may just be overanalyzing, but Chi Chi mentioning how Goten sounded like he's grown, seemed like a hint, that he and Trunks will be teenage sized in the next arc.
Every one has degraded to cartoon mentality for fashion choice, somehow. Bulma really, really likes that ascot and white top. Vegeta just wants to wear classic battle armor all the time, even if he did wear casual clothes during the Tenka'ichi Budokai. Even if his loving wife DID make him new battle armor. It might be one of the most unimportant details of the show, but it still creates a degree of separation from connecting with the cast.dbgtFO wrote:Yeah, that one is really annoying, especially, when they got new clothes, which would work well as new outfits for the new era of DB, but no we can't have that apparently.
It's been literal years since Beerus showed up. Can you tell just by looking? I can't.
Trunks' "SSRage" as it's been called, was more like him bulking up to the beef-cake level of SS we witnessed when he fought Cell - and then promptly shoving the bulk back into his body. That was consistently shown, at least. This new Fem!Broly transformation is undoubtedly the "Legendary" one that was associated with the big green manchild: Ballooning up to absurd proportions (beyond the usual) and taking on a greenish tint. If they were hinting at Trunks tapping into this power, they didn't do a very good job.Kanassa wrote:Actually, I think there's a possibility that the Universal Survival Arc might explain it. Re: Things that grind your gears
I don't think they were hinting anything, I simply think it's a possibility that they'll use this as some sort of explanation. Like have a throw away line of the girl's ki feeling similar to Trunks's when she takes on the form. Hell, wasn't the LSS form based off of Trunk's third grade form or something? It would actually be a neat easter egg.Lunaar wrote: Trunks' "SSRage" as it's been called, was more like him bulking up to the beef-cake level of SS we witnessed when he fought Cell - and then promptly shoving the bulk back into his body. Re: Things that grind your gears
Oh, I gotcha. That's a lot more likely, if they wanted to establish some sort of continuity with the viewer. As far as the origins for LSS, I'm not familiar with that tidbit of info. I was under the impression they just really wanted a balloon monster for a villain, but I could be wrong!Kanassa wrote:I don't think they were hinting anything, I simply think it's a possibility that they'll use this as some sort of explanation. Re: Things that grind your gears
For the sake of clarity, if you're referring to his spar with Goku, the latter wasn't utilizing his godly ki at the moment. If you're referring to Goku Black, Future Trunks required Super Saiyan Anger to get away with his larger plans but didn't quite match his introductory enemy's strength.moochfloatjr wrote:I've mostly been keeping up with Super via the summaries posted here so excuse me if I'm just not picking up on some things, but I really don't get Super Saiyan Rage. People who say that Freeza can dish the punishment but can't take it. Especially from what we've seen from the franchise, annoy me.

No I'm okay with people comparing both version but what I don't like is when people start arguing about this topic then it become ww3Jinzoningen MULE wrote:Every piece of media is absolutely equal to everything else and anyone who suggests otherwise should be crucified. The gr wrote:This really grind my gears that people constantly compare the DBS manga vs DBS anime we should stop this nonense saying stuff this version is better for blah blah and is word war 3I'm sick of seeing this

I agree that most people get way too heated about the topic, frequently to a point of dishonesty in discussions. While I don't always approve of the nature of disagreement, I'll be damned if we stop just because of it.The gr wrote:I'm okay with people comparing both version but what I don't like is when people start arguing about this topic then it become ww3

It's actually technically Super Saiyan Ikari. Which means Super Saiyan Rage. Personally I do prefer Super Saiyan Ikarihuzaifa_ahmed wrote:I might've missed something, but...really? If you want to go full weeb, it's "Supah Saiya-jin Ikari". Don't know why people don't use the translation (Super Saiyan Rage, Anger, etc.) though, cause y'know, we're all speaking English here.Gog wrote:Super Saiyan Ikari.

I will never go full weeb. The process may kill me. The reason why some people don't use the translation is because Super Saiyan Rage sounds like shit. While Super Saiyan Ikari sounds decentJinzoningen MULE wrote:If you want to go full weeb, it's "Supah Saiya-jin Ikari".
