Did Trunks Go SSJ2 in GT?
Hi, I've been wondering if Trunks went SSJ2 in GT. This question was sparked from a different board asking whether or not the GT characters should have their SSJ2 forms in BT3. I found a clip of the only instance in GT where I remember Trunks showing SSJ2 ability (Episode 24 of DBGT):

Towards the end of the episode (15:00-15:30) Trunks transforms to a Super Saiyan, then lightning appears and he maintains this till he powers down. Does this mean Trunks has the ability to go SSJ2?

I'm afraid that'd be wrong, Trunks never goes SSJ2 in GT. Neither the series itself, the GT Perfect Files, any of the video games (ignoring Budokai 2 and 3's little enhancement with Mirai Trunks for laziness), or anything else from Toei validly states Trunks ascending that far. Anyhow, the whole "lightning" aspect is very debatable, especially in the confines of the anime; where IMO, it isn't even a necessary visual trait (both SSJ2 Gohan and SSJ2 Vegeta appear to lack it at some points in DBZ while they have it in the manga). In any case, Trunks certainly wouldn't be the first SSJ1 to spark some electricity if that indeed happened, Vegetto did as well despite never being stated as going up to the second level by the Daizenshuus or games. I do have a little theory that Goten may've gone to one of the "Ultra" levels while under the possession of Bebi when he tried getting Gohan to reveal his full power (but only because he was bulked and ripped as hell after his shirt tore off), but other than that possibility and the SSJ4 transformations, no Saiyan character makes any further form achievements in GT.

Oh yeah, it's pretty horrible. But hey, I'd rather live with a garbage-sounding dub in the DVDs that I don't bother watching than the entire shabang being blurred/urinated/croppoed/etc. beyond reason. It's funny, the GT DVDs are basically FUNi's best release DB-wise since we get it 100% uncut and whatnot, yet the dub is worse than even DBZ's IMO. Go figure with FUNi's logic.MajinVejitaXV wrote:Wow...I had no idea the GT dub was that horrible O_O;;;

That's FUNi's?! And people were making fun of Ocean's dub of GT?!

It's pretty retarded that noone but Goku and Vegeta achieve a higher transformation in DBGT.
First of all, Goten and Trunks should have reached SSJ2 at least, and Vegeta SSJ3, no doubt.
Second of all, since Goku Jr. went SSJ, Pan should have done it too with time.
Plus I really disliked that they made all the saiyans weak except for Goku and Vegeta. But that's another story.

I never understood the argument for Vegeta going SSJ3. It's a bad transformation, which is why Goku uses it as a last resort. It takes up all your energy and uses it all in a quick amount of time. It would be like saying you're surprised Vegeta never used SSJ type 3 in the Buu saga. To be honest, I'm surprised GT Goku kept using SSJ3 so damned much.Godo wrote:It's pretty retarded that noone but Goku and Vegeta achieve a higher transformation in DBGT.

As for Goten and Trunks not reaching SSJ2, they stopped training in the gap between Buu and the 28th budokai, so again I'm not surprised. I'd prefer it if they did, but meh.
Regarding Pan never going SSJ, it should actually be Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr never going SSJ. Toriyama's notes say Pan shouldn't be able to transform into Oozaru or SSJ because she's only 1/4 Saiyan. If that's the case, and seeing how they adhered to that in GT, I really think they shouldn't have gone the nostalgia route by making 1/16th Saiyans go SSJ.

First of all, I think that Vegeta should have "an ace in his sleeve" too. Ass soon as he is not strong enough, it's over.Dayspring wrote:I never understood the argument for Vegeta going SSJ3. I agree that I would prefer Goten and Trunks reaching SSJ2. But about Trunks, did his fighting in space help him in any way to gain enough energy that could trigger the SSJ2 transformation?
And about Pan and Goku Jr. ect I think we can conclusively say: "Hey it´s Dragonball GT! Everything can happen!"
But overall I found the plot thin and the fights not very entertaining plus some awful character designs and some things that characters said or did that weren't very like what Toriyama had showed us.

Actually I think it was Blue Water Studio's but in anycase I agree, their dub of GT wasn't half as bad as Funi's since even I can agree to that... here's a clip that shows how they handled that sceneDayspring wrote:That's FUNi's?! And people were making fun of Ocean's dub of GT?!

Of course Funi did a great job with the DBZ dub, but their DBGT dub sucked bad since they replaced Bruce Faulconer's music with Menza's and it sounded so out of place. They would have been better off using the original OST of DBGT instead just like Blue Water did.

If by "only one" you mean "yourself and a few dozen other people on this forum alone". With FUNi, at least I know I'm getting crap, so if I had to choose, I'd go with them. Blue Water is all over the place quality-wise. I don't much care for what they did in GT.Mayuri Furiza Kurotsuchi wrote:I guess I'm the only one who prefers FUNi's dub over Blue Water's.

If we're comparing FUNimation's dub to feces, it's not standard crap, it's like the high quality fertilizer you can only buy at garden specialty stores.Duo wrote:If by "only one" you mean "yourself and a few dozen other people on this forum alone". I seriously don't get why they got Menza in the first place, I would most likely be able to enjoy Funimation's GT dub if only they had either kept Faulconer or kept the Japanese score.PrincessVegeta wrote:Of course Funi did a great job with the DBZ dub, but their DBGT dub sucked bad since they replaced Bruce Faulconer's music with Menza's and it sounded so out of place. Ah, Duo's comment on GT's music...indeed. I seriously can barely believe that their "rap" opening actually had people moaning in the background, it's like some deep foreshadowing or government required warning of what's to come...and that's pretty bad considering the original soundtrack was already sucking something or other pretty deep.
Yeah, Trunks was never a Super Saiya-jin level 2, leave it to FUNI to make something like GT more...wrong. But then, I could always counter my own point by asking myself the value/implications of such a desire to repeatedly question the logic of an english adaptation aimed largely at twelve year old boys...touche.

Thanks so far for your responses. I always figured that from the strain of Baby forced Trunks to finally ascend to a SSJ2, but maybe it was just wishful thinking. I do remember reading somewhere on this forum that all the the Saiyans in GT were SSJ2 but Toei just didn't bother adding lightning. Can anyone verify if this is true?
