You're absolutely right about this, but it's all blankets over what is the mattress of Dragon Ball. Without the mattress, you just have comfy bed sheets. Very, very high thread count bedsheets - don't get me wrong.

It's like watching Scary Movie or any of those knock-off comedies without knowing the source material - except those are single, bite-sized, mainstream experiences compared to hours upon hours of material DBZA is referencing. Regardless of your opinion on whether or not you find it funny (perfectly fine, btw), you cannot deny that it a finely crafted, well thought-out parody that respects it's roots. Not exactly your every day Epic Movie or Spaceballs. ...Spaceballs is fantastic, though.

When you say that hardly any of the jokes are references and you haven't watched the show... how do you know what's a reference and what isn't? References aren't always jokes, either. They've thrown in some amazing shit for the fandom. 16's little vlog left for Dr. Brief and Bulma to find was entirely new and it wasn't necessary to add, but damn it was cool. The show has many layers of value, that go beyond making it all shorter and funnier. It is, at the end of the day, a parody. It's not meant to replace Toei's or Toriyama's vision, nor should it in any stretch of the imagination. TFS has gone to great lengths make something brilliant on their own - for free, might I add.

It must be difficult comparing the "amazing jokes, characters, comedy and writing" when you haven't seen what you're comparing it to.

...my apologies to everyone reading, I didn't see this topic devolving into a DBZA rant on my part. Then again, I didn't expect someone on the message board to drop the "I've never seen the show but DBZA is better anyway" nugget. Am I being pranked?

I've read the manga, and watched Dragon Ball Z Abridged

I've read the entirety of the manga, and Dragon Ball Z abridged is still eons, light years ahead of what I read.

Your not being pranked in anyway.

If you're familiar with the story and understand where everything comes from - cool. That's great. A+ ...would've helped to mention a little bit earlier, but hey. Gonna get me all razzle dazzled. Good times.

Ah, that's cool!

As for Abridged being better than the manga and the anime, then, I'll have to respectfully disagree. I think Dragon Ball Z Abridged, without a doubt, is great and all. I think it's a awesome project that deserves tons of praise. I think it's great that it has attracted more people to the franchise.

But would I say it's better than the original anime? Much less, the manga? I personally consider that a stretch longer than the Nile river. TFS Abridged's got some cool jokes, clever references, and good voice acting. But I don't think it has got a single stop on the original content. I wouldn't even compare them, if I'm being honest.

That's more like it. The manga is the more legitimate version when compared to DBZ anyways.

I can't speak for the man, but I recall KaiserNeko saying that he was uncomfortable when people compare them. It's meant to be supplement.

I'll razzle dazzle you up baby, with my next semi rant baby.( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Do you know of an idea that never should have seen the light of day, a idea so vile and twisted that it shouldn't have even been thought of. It exists in the form of the androids, 18 and 17 specifically. There whole existence is just one stupid asspull. I can tolerate 19 and 20's existence as they were pathetic weaklings, who's powers entirely depended on the amount of Ki they got from their opponent. I'm also biased towards these two as their powers were new and exciting, and their designs and motivations were great.

Then Sat-Toriyama's editor thought that they were too good of an idea, and fucked everything up. Enter 18 and 17. Both of their existences are just flat out insulting to the Namek saga as they were created by an old man with a bunch of scraps in a cave. Fuck it's just so stupid, and make's Freeza seem pathetic in comparison as now even an old fart in a cave is capable of creating beings surpassing his strength. Hell it even poses the question on why the hell didn't Dr Gero make himself as strong as, or stronger than them? There existence's are just insulting. Their designs are bland. Fuck 18, Fuck 17.

I'd consider the Freeza arc from the original version to be better, but the Cell arc is literally light years ahead of what it was in the original manga and anime.

hold on I'm going to make a movie reference Dr gero was able to build Android 17 and 18 In a cave with a box of scraps and yeah I agree #17 and #18 were bland character when there were villains and there existence is an asspull

No, I'm already procrastinating by checking my notifications. I don't really care, anyway, it just sounds bizarre.

I'm a child of the anime, watch only the anime and I still think this is rude and unwarranted. Reading isnt inferior to watching something on TV. You are being really nasty MULE.

I didn't even know this was a manga/anime discussion, I just thought it was weird that he said he hadn't seen a series that we actively talk about here. Like I said, I'm being a lazy piece of shit just by checking my notifications right now, I wasn't actually paying attention to the discussion. Fuck me for posting without paying attention, I'm done.

Hell it even poses the question on why the hell didn't Dr Gero make himself as strong as, or stronger than them?
That was answered in the story. Gero considers absorption models as perfect designs. With that addressed, Gero's accomplishments weren't considered replicable. They're appropriately portrayed as impressive & extensively-researched works.

Don't be so hard on yourself; who can blame you? I do the same thing. Sorry, I don't always want to go read three pages of a discussion. Sometimes I contribute after looking at the last few posts. I know, I know, but I've got things to do. Sometimes you'll have to forgive people like us for contributing without knowing the whole scope of the discussion. But seriously, this is a big thread and going back to find where a particular discussion started happening, can be time-consuming.

That doesn't even make any sense in the context of the story, as why wouldn't he just simply make himself as strong as 18? With the energy absorption models, he showed the ability to do so. It's just lazy story telling. Except for the fact that the androids some how managed to leap frog ahead of Freeza. Do you know how idiotic that is? How lucky Freeza is that some no other person in the universe decided to make androids to take him down, or that Gero was never interested in space. The androids just diminish Freeza as a character, and the Super Saiyan Legend, and hell their not even that good at diminishing them.
