Things that grind your gears
Re: Things that grind your gears
Another thing that grind's my gears. When people reply to your argument with Toriyama logic, which I personally consider to be the most lazy of arguments that anyone could ever do. You aren't even defending your point, you are literally just stating Toriyama logic. And somehow expecting that to be a point in your argument, even though the phrase Toriyama logic can be effortlessly spun around to support your opponent.

Re: Things that grind your gears
While I've seen Toriyama's logic in arguments used all the time, this is the very first time I've seen someone say Toriyama Logic! with no other arguments. As in they just say Toriyama Logic! and that's enough? Like TOO BAD! Toriyama Logic!
Re: Things that grind your gears
No, I hate it when in an argument they use the phrase Toriyama logic at all. It's just a lazy way of arguing in my opinion. But, no it's never just Toriyama logic, it's usually just sprinkled in the argument.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:While I've seen Toriyama's logic in arguments used all the time, this is the very first time I've seen someone say Toriyama Logic! with no other arguments. Re: Things that grind your gears
I don't know about "Toriyama Logic" but I'm pretty sure everyone can agree "Toei Logic" is something beyond the comprehension of us mere mortals.
Just a little example:
Observation:
1. In an Anime-exclusive scene, Bulma reads Umigame's battle power as 0.001.
2. Then, in a filler episode, he is seen defeating full sized and muscular human adults with little effort. These humans would have to be at least as strong as that fat farmer whose battle power is read as 5 by Raditz.
Conclusion:
1. Toei's power scaling is shit.
2. Toei is actually more forgetful than Toriyama. So stop blaming the poor man.
Of course you could handwave it by saying that Umigame trained with Kame-sennin or something crazy like that but even you know that the only correct answer is nothing other than "Toei Logic".

People who spread lies, misinformation, fake leaks and rumors, especially when they say "Toriyama said so". One example that's on my mind is fan's stating that Gogeta is stronger than Vegetto because Toriyama said it on a supposed interview, which of course is a blatant lie.

Besides the constant pseudo-intellectual posts of people who barely make/made it through highschool:
Whenever people complain about the ending of the Zamasu saga as if the typical Shonen/RPG/United we Stand and defeat the main villain never was a thing in Dragon Ball. It always was. It being Goku getting strengthened through his anger unleashed by experiencing someone he loves getting hurt or Gohan being supported by his father and others or the Genkidama which is literally nothing but a collective of everything ridiculously small united to be one big good thing powerful enough to be used against the ultimate evil. It is always the same thing. And Trunks getting a power up for being so angry because he is convinced that he fights to protect whatever seems to be worth being protected and therefore as well as the typical "we all are with you Genkidama sword all are nothing different. It does not matter if "those are just 4 people or reasons that some might not consider as being enough". It is a classic and an understandable one. All that is positive should gather together to conquer the evil. Dragon Ball is not all about rage, rage, rage. That rage comes from something when the good guys actually get angry. And whoever does not understand this should either re-read Dragon Ball, read a few more Shonen or play a few more JRPGs. Either the heroes mobilize their power sleeping within once they find a reason to fight which is almost always the good cliche stuff - and that is absolutely okay, I love the classics of love and friendship and all - or they literally find a way to fight together.

Re: Things that grind your gears
I respect your opinion but I think your being waaaay too harsh on it. What you're saying could be applied to Season 1 and especially the pre-TFS "Neighborhood Cluck" stuff. But now, in terms of production it could be considered professional. They're humour is incredibly timed well, references are placed well and the writing is so well crafted that it's starting to almost be as quotable as The Simpsons. As for production; they use the Dragonboxes, the best video source available for Z, use lip syncing and use good quality mics and sound mixing. Some guys dicking around with a mic it ain't. They even edit footage to fix errors and ad their own original animations.ecrockedboston wrote:I've been monitoring this thread. Since I saw it brought up... DBZ Abridged. I just cannot for the life of me understand what the appeal is. It reminds me of sitting around with my friends, smoking weed, and watching cartoons while having the TV muted and making of fun of any goofy looking thing, voices and all. I'm not going to sit here and claim that I'm Mr. Mature Grownup Pants, but the humor is just so infantile. It reminds me of Halo Red v Blue. I know TFS are fans of Dragon Ball, but watching Abridged makes me feel mocked for enjoying Dragon Ball.

No, people are definitely way more pissed about Trunks' several - as they would put it - "asspulls".RehBeh wrote:Cetra wrote:Besides the constant pseudo-intellectual posts of people who barely make/made it through highschool:

1 - Their humor isn't funnyThey're humour is incredibly timed well, references are placed well and the writing is so well crafted that it's starting to almost be as quotable as The Simpsons.
2 - It's clear the "acting" is done by amateurs doing silly voices
3 - Nothing about it well crafted
4 - It's nowhere near as quotable as The Simpsons
5 - It's not even really written. It's a bunch of jokes strung together
The people who love that show speak in hyperbole and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. I've never seen a TV show or movie as god awful as TFS be as well regarded as it is. I've never laughed once. Every time I've been shown a video from someone trying to come around, I just shake my head because I don't get it. I get that humor is subjective, but it's not even remotely clever. I'd say the thing that grinds my gears is that it is well loved as it is. You want funny, watch Deadpool or Blazing Saddles or Cheers.
