What is your favorite battle in the Dragonball Z anime?

My favorite battle is Piccolo versus Android 17#. It had great fighting scenes. It was exciting, because it was pretty even and I liked piccolo's trap.

Son Goku vs. Ma Junior at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai was great, although, since that's not technically DBZ... Well Gotenks vs. Super Buu and Piccolo vs. #17 were awesome too. (I'm kinda fuzzy on most things in between Goku's revival in the Saiyan saga and the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai though, since it's been years since I've seen a lot of that stuff...)

Since the question's being specific about the DBZ anime (no movies, original DB, or GT), then I'll go with Goku Vs. Freeza. That battle is just so over-the-top fantastic for so many reasons. Yeah, there are downsides such as the filler and 5-minutes-to-5-hours plot hole bringing the whole thing to 20 episodes over-all, but I just think it pays off so well in the end. Goku has supposedly fulfilled his destiny by becoming the Super Saiyan of legend, brought the tyrant that killed his entire race and best friend to the point of begging for help, and yet been trying so very hard to keep his rage from changing him. Heck, the battle as a whole; it starts with Goku and Freeza seemingly nearly equal, then Freeza gaining an enormous advantage when he isn't even trying at half his power, then Goku's 20x Kaioken Kamehame-Ha and Genki-dama showing just how close he was coming to actually defeating him, then the Super Saiyan transformation, then Namek's destruction around the both of them while they went all-out. It's just such a fantastic action battle, I'd love to one day edit out all the filler scenes and have it just Goku vs. Freeza to get the full taste with no interference.

Its either that for me, or Goku vs Cell, the whole " Holy shit, these guys are too fast! " Thing is so badass.

The Earthlings vs. Saiyans, Goku and Vegeta in particular... I really enjoyed watching them kick each other's ass. I also happen to be biased because they were the first episodes I saw and the Gallic Gun/Kamehameha clash is my favorite moment.

I love Vegeta vs. #18... a lot of it is seeing Vegeta get beaten up by a girl, yes, but also because she's so 'meh' about it. After watching Buu on Cartoon Network, I rented a bunch of the Trunks/Early Cell tapes from a little anime/gaming store... It's been a while, though, so I can't remember all the details. I do remember going back and buying a cheap little #18 action figure, though. (With bright orange boots. Argh.)

My other favorite is Gohan stalling Vegeta in the Saiyajin saga, for no real reason other than I'm a character-type fan. I love the dynamic between these two throughout the series, and while it's a pretty one-sided fight, I still find it interesting.

Oh, and Gohan vs. Super Buu, for the sheer badassitude of it all. *stars in eyes* I'm a huge Gohan fangirl, sooo...
