I don't see them taking seasonal breaks due to Toonami airing once a week for the last 5 years and showing repeats before we get new episodes will probably hurt ratings.Scsigs wrote:

The rating haven't been bad , have you compared them to early cartoon networks numbers?rs_chaosmaster wrote:While I understand not being a fan of the retelling arcs dropping Super till U6 could be very bad. The ratings for toonami have been pretty bad so far this year. If a lot of people think the same way then Super could be in jeopardy. Toonami on general in fact and CN has shown they have no loyalty to anime in the past. Don't think for a second they would drop Toonami again. Do what you want but I will enjoy the fact we finally have Super dubbed.

Jason DeMarco said a while ago that Toonami has a layout for the next five years. I think Toonami will still be around unless something really happens. If we don't get any breaks, The Champa saga should start in August and will probably see the Future Trunks saga by January 2018. Meanwhile Kai won't end on Toonami until Summer 2018.

Do we know if Funimation will release boxsets/DVDs before toonami shows them? I remember buying the VHSs and watching the episodes well before toonami showed them

Kai's home releases are definitely surpassing the Toonami airing by a large margin. Parts 1 and 2 are releasing in late April and late May respectively and they will have 23 episodes each, so the home release will be at episode 144 while the Toonami broadcast will be at around 118-119ish. Whether they'll do something similar to Super, though, remains to be seen.dragonballgeek wrote:Do we know if Funimation will release boxsets/DVDs before toonami shows them? What about Super? Any word on the release dates for that? I'm just impatient and don't want to wait till December for Trunks arc lolOmegaRockman wrote:Kai's home releases are definitely surpassing the Toonami airing by a large margin. Just compare to last year and you will see they are not great at all not with normal CN numbers. It is the decline from last year that is the issue.Thesagebeast wrote:

First time I felt an episode drag on this dub retelling but great performance by Douglas and Sabat especially Douglas some of his delivery was awesome!

Huh, that's odd. Never once in my original watch or here in the dub did I feel like there was dragging. I think the BOG story works a lot better as an arc than a movie. All the build-up of Beerus' power and how weak the Dragon Team is in comparison feels so much more satisfying than in the film.
Anyway, this episode didn't feel as disjointed as the rest. In some scenes, it did, but for the most part, the characters sounded more like they were actually interacting. Great performance from Jason Douglas as always. His pudding rant to Gotenks was just as hilarious as I remember. Chris Sabat definitely nailed the emotion on Vegeta's part too. All in all, FUNimation handled this episode excellently.

Super airs a half an hour early on Toonami. Last year, Family Guy had this time slot which usually have high ratings. Also, Super has two airings, not just one that split the ratings.rs_chaosmaster wrote:Just compare to last year and you will see they are not great at all not with normal CN numbers. Yeah. CN usually averages 2 million on their most popular shows during the DAY, so it's not like it's bad if they average between 1 & 2 at night.HeroR wrote:Super airs a half an hour early on Toonami. Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

Plus, overall the ratings are down. Look at that giant drop from JoJo from Kai. And it was like that before Super aired. In general, ratings have been down for months. With Super and Kai, Toonami get two shows over a million when before only Kai was always over a million.Scsigs wrote:

Its possible Crunchyroll has eaten into the ratings with having Super available to stream for free. Most hardcore fans would already be watching it subbed and there would be more casual audiences watching it dubbed.rs_chaosmaster wrote:Just compare to last year and you will see they are not great at all not with normal CN numbers. The ratings aren't bad, but they aren't good either for what it is. Especially the 8PM timeslot. Things don't have to be good or bad, one thing or another. They can just be OK.
I compared Super to AoT in that time slot. The reason is because AoT was available on various streaming services including Netflix and in the approximate same time slot. AoT in my opinion is much more niche compared to the Dragonball Franchise and DB recently had two popular movies released. That being said I would expect it to put up bigger numbers in the same time slot than AoT...
That 8PM slot is not great when reruns of Bob's burger are beating it out at a later time. Combined though, Super is doing around 2 million viewers a night, but at the expense of two timeslots, one being a primetime 8PM one which is performing worse.

I kind of expected someone who could do a similar performance to Ian Sinclair's Whis. We'll see how she does.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Jason Liebrecht (Rob Lucci in One Piece and Jeice in Kai) voices Champa and Caitlin Glass (Vivi in One Piece and Winry in Full Metal Alchemist) voices Vados

Things are different compare to 15-20 years ago. It seems like Toonami wants to air the show first before we get the home video releases. I remember Akame Ga Kill didn't get a Blu-Ray and DVD release like a week before it end on Toonami. So maybe during the summer, we will see Season 1 of Super on DVD and Blu-Ray.dragonballgeek wrote:Do we know if Funimation will release boxsets/DVDs before toonami shows them?
