"Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Disappointed to hear they replaced TFS's scene. I don't really follow the Funi dub anymore, but I was looking forward to the TFS cameo.
On hiatus.
Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
They delayed the other Kai sets because they had to replace the music, which is more extensive & time consuming than jest replacing dialogue for 1 scene that's a minute long, but I'm hoping they're not changing it.AzuraRacon wrote:I'm hoping best case; Toei just made them edit it for tv (or funimation did it to make it a dvd selling point)
And medium case; the DVD/blurays were already mastered with that version of the scene before Toei made them change it, and seeing as how the home release, to my knowledge, has not been delayed like Part Five was during the whole Yamamoto debacle, Funi hasn't bothered to change that
All of this is just kinda wishful thinking at this point but I really don't want to believe we've just had the opportunity of a lifetime for this show teased and then ripped away and replaced with the exact same thing we got fifteen years ago
It's not a breaking point for me entirely but I'm definitely in no rush to preorder that part one dvd until I know whether or not I'm going to have a gaping hole of what could've been where that scene is
I get why that is. FUNi & other studios have their voice actors sign non-talking agreements so that they can't talk about something they're in on social media, or in interviews until the thing's released. I've seen in a few of TFS' livestreams on their gaming channel where Lani says something about being in a dub, like Fairy Tail, or One Piece & he'll then say something like "I can't get into specifics," or something. That's most likely something like this.AzuraRacon wrote:As for the reenactment, Kaiser and MasakoX have denied any involvement at all
Lani, the only voice we did hear in the scene, I'm assuming will be away from social media for the next week so we're more likely to get some kind of hard word elsewhere before then.
I remember a few years ago when the Sailor Moon Viz redub got announced & the original voice actor for Shingo got replaced when he announced his casting before he was contractually allowed to for the final product. Sean probably got flack at FUNi for saying that stuff about Kat TFC, but he's the voice of Goku & King Kai, so he didn't get fired. This shit can be dangerous towards someone's job. Nickelodeon even has their showrunners sign NDAs so that they can't say anything terrible about the company while their shows are running, so it's not just an anime thing.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

I still love the old dub so that scene being reused was fine for me. And I'm not the biggest fan of TFS anymore either, so it's a win-win.Scsigs wrote:What I mean is, FUNi nowadays are pretty good at translating funny scenes in the anime they dub. I get the purpose of the scene, but I feel that, like the TFS audio most likely did, they could've given it a great gag dub treatment. The TFS audio was most likely really hilarious. The audio that replaced it most likely was hilarious for longtime fans, as is TFS' brand of humor. I'm very disappointed because I don't hold the original Z dub in high regard, as it's mostly really bad minus a few lines here & there. If Toei's be hind it, then I'm disappointed in them for not going with the jokes.Dbzfan94 wrote:Poorly translated? It's supposed to be a mock / purposely bad acting

So MasakoX tweeted this. Seems he has no idea what is going on either or is just playing dumb. Probably the former. But I guess this is more soft confirmation TFS did in fact record these lines for Kai.

That was fun! Taka doing his Nappa voice for Mr. Satan was something else.
Was Kaiser Cell? His "Noooo!" at the end.
MasakoX voicing hero Gokû was surreal.
Lani reading his lines super fast was also fun.

This was every bit as gold as I thought it would be, but how the hell did this guy get the audio? Obviously it's still around somewhere.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Um...so...the version with the TFS voices has surfaced on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzdsEsbkbic

Someone goofed, I knew it. Anyway that was pretty fun!
We won't have to wait long until the BD to find out if it is on there officially.
Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
The whole "Nappa became a movie producer" story in abridged makes his voice as the hero here even more suited.
On hiatus.

Maybe he worked at FUNI, or maybe it's an account set up by TFS, or the Toonami staff, or something.Footlong Shoe wrote:This was every bit as gold as I thought it would be, but how the hell did this guy get the audio? Now THAT'S what I wanted! The original dub version doesn't even hold a candle to this greatness! Now Goku's "best show [he's] ever seen" line makes more sense & is WAY funnier with the meta humor added in. It still retains in the clunky reads/good bad acting as a nod to the original dub, but is 9001x funnier now.
Also, downloaded it for safe keeping.
Hopefully they'll integrate it into DBZA if it's not on the home releases whe they get to abridging it later this year/early next year, depending on how many of their epiisodes it takes to get to it.

Pretty disappointed to hear TFS got snubbed. There would never be a better time to cameo.
Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
From what I'm reading, while it didn't appear on Toonami, the on-demand versions (XFINITY, for example) do have the TFS scene in tact.

I can verify that the TFS version is not on the Adult Swim website, though - I checked last night when it was uploaded and once again a few minutes ago.Ajay wrote:From what I'm reading, while it didn't appear on Toonami, the on-demand versions (XFINITY, for example) do have the TFS scene in tact.

Huh, so it must've been a VERY late change if they have it on X-Finity. Maybe they'll have it on the hime releases after all.Ajay wrote:From what I'm reading, while it didn't appear on Toonami, the on-demand versions (XFINITY, for example) do have the TFS scene in tact.

Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
My theory, feel free to debunk if you know more, is as follows. Perhaps the TFS voices were added later in the dubbing process, namely after the rest of the episode had been dubbed, and the Z dub clips were used as placeholders. They went back and put the TFS voices later, but somehow somebody goofed and sent the old version to Toonami. Wouldn't be the first time. Remember how the very first episode of Kai actually had the Yamamoto score years after the controversy?
At this point, this is the only thing I can think of.
EDIT: Never mind, forgot about TFS Krillin's line at the end. Ladies and gentlemen, Dragon Ball, the franchise whose production makes no sense.
