Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
A lot of you saying they filled it with TFS references, I didn't see any of those. I saw a bunch of references to how stupid the old Funimation dub was. Let's not get confused here, TeamFourStar didn't invent "Push ups, sit ups, and plenty of juice." I saw this clip as one big F U to the old dub as well as a bit of meta humor in terms of the casting.
We have to think here that this wasn't just Sabat and TFS making this, dubs have a lot of due process to follow. For this clip to get this far Funimation most likely fully approved of this product. I have no doubt this is Toei's meddling now. Makes me wonder if Toei even know how badly Funimation butchered their show back in the day or if this decision is purely based on the casting.

Has anyone else noticed how the Kai voices sound a bit different from the Super ones?

Though, in terms of the acting, I'd say most of the actors had more confidence going into Kai TFC than Super, hence why I don't like Edwards' current Goten voice, since she can't seem to decide if he's supposed to be normal, or higher-pitched. The Super dub seems weirdly rushed in places as a result, which doesn't make much sense to me, since they had at least 2 months to dub the show before it started airing.TheUltimateNinja wrote:Weird. No I hear it too. It's subtle, but Kara and Kyle are playing Videl and Gohan younger and more sporadic as opposed to Super. I also think Sean is playing Goku with more energy and a lucky go happy attitude here. There are some very subtle voice nuances to reflect the character's ages in Kai. Behind the scenes video's have shown Sabat does direct his actors like this so yeah, it's not just you.TheUltimateNinja wrote:Has anyone else noticed how the Kai voices sound a bit different from the Super ones?

Maybe its because I can't speak Japanese, but the voice acting in the reenactment scene of Japanese DBZ doesn't sound that bad at all, not counting the scene where Fake!Cell and Fake!Goku are punching each other while attached to obvious wires. I think dubbing the scene with Power Rangers esque overacting might be what the scene needs for a faithful adaption into English.AzuraRacon wrote:Maybe act it like a Power Rangers scene, where every thing is a little too over the top as apposed to everything being under acted
As for Toei not wanting the TFS acting, there's the matter of Funi typically setting their DVDs and Blu-Rays as multi region, not to mention that The Final Chapters is longer than the Japanese TV cut.

Quick question due to all of this TFS cut scene drama, Has anyone who has Xfinity checked all the Kai episodes on the service to see if anymore changes were made that we didn't know about? these set of episodes that are airing may have some different dialogue we haven't heard yet.
I do hope that the TFS version of the Cell Games reenactment will be in the DVD/Bluray copies.

Because the more episodes Toei make, the more money they get for selling each episode.TheUltimateNinja wrote:By the way, why the fuck are they keeping so much filler in?

The episode count has very little to do with the amount of money the make. If they were cutting this like they did the Freeza Arc, there would still be 65-ish episodes, and the home releases would be divided similarly to how they are now. I don't know why they kept so much in, but money isn't a deciding factor.SaiyamanMS wrote:Because the more episodes Toei make, the more money they get for selling each episode.TheUltimateNinja wrote:By the way, why the fuck are they keeping so much filler in?
My personal guess: Since Kai took a vastly different approach during the Boo Arc (a re-branding, if you will), they didn't want it to seem pointless or short-lived.

Yeah, it's only on Xfinity and it'll likely only be up on there for a day or so before it's replaced because due to the info that was dropped in this thread a few pages ago, it won't be on the DVDs and Blu-rays. Good thing I was looking for the Kai version of the scene on YouTube this morning to double check if it was just the Z audio because if I didn't, I wouldn't have found the video and I wouldn't have ended up sharing it here. Also, the scene was funny at first but after a few viewings, it wasn't as funny because everyone has already made fun of these lines, including Sabat and the others, and the shock value of hearing them do it in an official dub wore off. I agree with the people in this thread who preferred the reuse of the Z audio, it's better that way because this only lasts so long in terms of enjoyment and only appeals to a niche group

It's only 69 episodes already, I'm sure they could cut it further than 65 (and in fact the Japanese broadcast did, it was only 61 episodes), the Buu arc was originally 92 episodes and if it were cut similarly to the rest of Kai (199 down to 98) it'd probably be about 46-ish episodes long.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:The episode count has very little to do with the amount of money the make. Is that right? I was thinking that the episode counts were both in the 70's. Oh well, I was wrong there, but money still isn't likely to be the primary explanation.SaiyamanMS wrote:It's only 69 episodes already, I'm sure they could cut it further than 65 (and in fact the Japanese broadcast did, it was only 61 episodes), the Buu arc was originally 92 episodes and if it were cut similarly to the rest of Kai (199 down to 98) it'd probably be about 46-ish episodes long.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:The episode count has very little to do with the amount of money the make. I have a feeling it's probably more about pacing in some cases. For instance, most of the cut episodes were from the beginning of the arc & if you look at the original Japanese broadcast clips on YouTube, the pacing is way too fast in some areas, like when Goten learned how to fly, it was artificially sped up, which would make sense if they cut it down further than it was, which they did. Personally, I'm glad they cut down as much of the Saiyaman stuff that they did, but left enough in to where we got as much as we needed, then moved on to the tournament. I'm glad the pacing is as it is, otherwise we'd see an Inuyasha: The Final Act situation where the pacing's very erratic, or a Super situation, where a lot of episodes are paced like the manga would be, like the last few episodes of the Future Trunks arc was, rather than having a few episodes per few plot points to pace everything out efficiently. A good show knows how to pace things well so that something lasts as long as it needs to, then moves on.SaiyamanMS wrote:It's only 69 episodes already, I'm sure they could cut it further than 65 (and in fact the Japanese broadcast did, it was only 61 episodes), the Buu arc was originally 92 episodes and if it were cut similarly to the rest of Kai (199 down to 98) it'd probably be about 46-ish episodes long.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:The episode count has very little to do with the amount of money the make. On the other hand, some of the filler they left in is baffling, like the beings in hell remarking about seeing Goku fall off Snake Way, which he didn't, & creates a continuity error for the new cut of the show. Anyone know if they left in anymore scenes in Hell that weren't in the manga?

I guess we'll find out for sure in April on the definitive status of the scene in question.
Poor Kai. This can be chalked up as one of the controversies of the series right after Yamamoto and the "green tint."

I'm perfectly calm, but I was curious and usually Kanzenshuu is on top of these kind of things. are you watching those on-demand episodes by chance or was it confirmed by someone else here?ShadowDude112 wrote:Lanzer, chill. Not that I don't trust the sources or anything, but I guess there is some hope as long as it remains unchanged on XFinityTV. Somebody should keep an eye on it just in case. If it gets replaced, it will be the final nail in the coffin, however. I wouldn't expect it to last the week. Still, at this point, getting the TFS scene on Home Video isn't even a must for me, I'll take anything that doesn't involving reusing Z recordings.
Still, wonder what all the fuss is about, anyway? TFS Nappa's voice in Xenoverse didn't appear to be a problem, so why does Toei start complaining now?

To be fair, the games are Bandai Namco's business, not Toei's. Toei likely had no say on the Xenoverse stuff, unlike the anime.Valerius Dover wrote:Still, wonder what all the fuss is about, anyway?
