Steven Perry: A couple pages back I asked that all video editors requesting FTP access PM me their IP so that I can add them to the server's white list. I was getting unsolicited server hits and I wanted to beef up security. That's why you can't log in; you aren't approved yet. Also, do you think you could remove that image containing my IP? Thanks.
Arcwave: That is truly awesome! Is Morgan aware of the project? How'd you get in touch with him? That could really give this thing a degree of professionalism.
Bardock: Though I haven't been approved yet, I've volunteered to do the DVD authoring. If that's the case, I would put the Spanish subs on their own subtitle track on the final disc (/image). If going on YT, there'd probably have to be a separate video rendered with a subtitle overlay. But in order to have any subs at all there needs to be someone willing to time the dialogue. I don't know if there's anyone actually doing that at this point.

Actually he doesn't. But he said he'd love to help me out on smaller projects because I'm an imerging filmmaker. He's really cool and loves DBZ; so I'll definetely pass the word on. I actually met him on the FUNimation forums. Funny eh?Acid_Reign wrote:

Just as soon as someone tracks down Kino.Steven Perry wrote:I'm getting so excited, guys! We're about to start... we're about to start!
(We've also got loads of pros. This project is gonna be awesome!)

And Steven, I don't really see the point in making those so-called "blooper vids" by merging other stuff with the movie, it'd take up too much time to put together and not really be relevant. Sure, we can include bloopers of ourselves as extras on the few DVDs given out, but let's not go over the top as you seem to imply doing. The few DVDs given out to us cast can contain the fandub with optional Spanish subtitles, the trailer, bloopers, and maybe some text blurbs about making the project. We'll obviously worry about all that once dubbing is finished.

Yeah, we're really waiting on Kino here. I wonder what happened to her. According to "the system," she's received the PM(s) I sent her. I wonder what's up.Conan the SSJ wrote:Just as soon as someone tracks down Kino.Steven Perry wrote:I'm getting so excited, guys! We're about to start... we're about to start!

Bloopers and gag footage are definitely a possibility, and one I'm looking forward to, too. But yeah, that'll have to wait to worry about until we're done or almost done the rest of the dubbing.

I was hard on him? Woah nelly, here I thought I was being very calm and reasonable. I am supporting the blooper idea, though I'm just saying let's not go too over-the-top with it that may distract from the project at hand. Also regarding Kino, she's evidently still around, as she gave Magica a B-day gift on DA. o.oSSj Kaboom wrote:Now, Conan, don't be TOO hard on him. Enthusiasm is guud.

We can and are relying on Kino, we're not dropping her from delivering the final version of the script she's no doubt been working hard on. She may be going through something in her personal life, we don't know, but she deserves better than to be dropped from this without hearing from her on what's up first. To answer your question, it's literally impossible to word-for-word write this fandub exactly as translated by Steve Simmons or the Pioneer folks who did the original release. Reason being because of mouth-flap issues and small creative choices. However, we are attempting to be as accurate as possible within reason, maintaining this as a true translation rather than a "reversioning/adaptation" that FUNi seem to have a fetish with; certainly more so than all three of their dubs of this movie. To the best of my knowledge, both Kaboom and Mr. Announcer/Shinpan adapted their scripts that Kino is finalizing straight from the Simmons subtitles on the redub release.Arcwave wrote:Well if we can't rely on Kino, why can't someone else put together the script? I mean, it can't be THAT hard; you guys are taking the exact Japanese translation, right?

I'm sure Kino's almost done (she was last I talked to her), and for all we know, there may be something else completely unrelated that's keeping her from either finalizing it or getting it to us, or even getting an internet connection, since I haven't seen her for a while, period. We don't know, so we'll just hang tight for now until we hear from her. It's a little too late to just start over combining the script at this point, anyhoo.
As for the "accuracy" of the script, no, it's not exactly the original Japanese. It's derived from it, though, to be sure, at least a heck of a lot more than FUNimation's dub scripts. It's a little creative at some points, because otherwise it'd be boring, but it's still extremely faithful.

Well, I figure if we've got to sit around waiting for Kino, we might as well do something while we wait.
It's something I brought up before in regards to advertising: Animated signature banners.
Now, I know we image signatures aren't allowed on DaizEX, but they are on 95% of other forums out there, and I'm sure many among us visit at least a few of them. So what better way to advertise the project than by having a nice, pretty, possibly animated banner in your sig?
In terms of visual design, I had envisioned the first image to be one of the main characters (Goku, Tullece, Piccolo, Gohan, etc...), along with a quote from them, whether it be an actual line from the script or not. It would fade to show the title of the project with a "Coming Soon" or "Coming Fall 2007," or something like that. There might be a version with ALL of the characters' screens in a row, and then the titles.
So does this sound good? Anyone have other/additional ideas? Anyone up for making them? I can do the "artwork," but I'm not that good at making animations.

Remember the Tullece picture you drew for the end of the trailer?SSj Kaboom wrote:In terms of visual design, I had envisioned the first image to be one of the main characters (Goku, Tullece, Piccolo, Gohan, etc...), along with a quote from them, whether it be an actual line from the script or not. We need at least one of the banners in that style. There's a similar cover image on a DVD box set that I remember, and it had the charcters' faces lined up and faded out by shadow, which looked very awesome (I'll post it up later). I was thinking we could do the same- but maybe, have Tullece and Goku in the front, with their faces merged together (half Goku, half Tullece), and have the Z-fighters lined up behind Goku's side with faces partly covered by shadow, and on Tullece's side have the henchmen lined up behind him and with their faces partly covered by shadow.

Oh god.

Regarding that DVD, will it just be given to the people who work on the dub, or could you make a torrent for it and release it to everyone? (Hopes for the torrent-option)Steven Perry wrote:Or maybe, we could have an optional DVD commentary that runs throughout the movie, telling everyone about the origins of R29, and everythig we did during production. That could fit into 40 minutes.

Grrr... what is it with me and not finishing and fully posting posts when I think I have? I typed up a bunch of stuff in response this morning before I left for work, expecting to have a bunch of responses and be able to share ideas and such when I got home... now I sit down and discover that I never hit "Submit?" Gyaaah!
So anyway... let's see here.
Podcast? Hmmm... Interesting concept, I'll say. However, if we want something audio of undetermined members of our group blabbing about the project, I'd say the DVD Commentary idea seems more feasible. In terms of a podcast, mmmm.... we'll see if Mike will let one of us guest star on the DaizEX podcast to talk about the project if/when it gets finished, instead.
Anyhoo, a DVD commentary track sounds great. *Hands Steven Perry a towel* Nevertheless, we'll put that aside for now until (much) later, once we're wrapping things up and actually putting together a DVD.
As for distributing the DVD... yes, the plan was to limit "distribution" (free, of course. We don't wanna get our asses sued here) of any future physical DVDs (or torrenting the DVD image, however one goes about doing that) to mostly those involved in the project, and nobody more than members of the forum. Once you have a DVD, you can do whatever you want with it... keep it on your shelf, burn it, make it a coaster... whatever. But the "general viewing public" (i.e. those not involved or on DaizEX at all) will have to settle for watching it on Stage6.
Now... let's see about the signature banners. This is sorta what I had in mind. I'll use Piccolo as an example.

See? I can do the artwork involved, but someone else will have to turn the various images I'd provide into a simple looping animation. I figure we'll make an even five... Goku, Tullece, Piccolo, Gohan, and one that goes through all four of them. Unless we want to include Kuririn or Shenlong or something.
