Am I the only one who noticed Goku has fully outlined eyes in NEP? They should fix it.

What is this, a comparison for ants!
But seriously, here are bigger images.

The line filter is a godsend.
I'm still not a fan of the "YouTube 4k Remaster OMG TRU HD" colors, but that line filter (aside from a tad too much Gaussian blur layered over it) is nice, and the poison effect on Gohan's eyes looks much nicer (it looks extremely cheap and like he's wearing crappy eye shadow in the prefiltered shot).

What I feel they should do is tone down the colors, and use Z's palette as a reference, and they should also slightly tone down the blur on the lines.

Outside of that, this episode had some more limited, but very well done animation, and very few off looking shots (there was one early one where Gohan's eyes were way too high on his head, but that's about it). There were some shots that evoked a "Z" feel, which I'm happy with.

There seens to be a shift in color in the opening cards. Found by Heath.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Sure, no problem. Here's some of his shots from back in the day. I went with the ones that were either not corrected or barely corrected at all:

As for him now, well you can see the main post of this thread for full examples, but here's some anyway:

Despite the new character designs and his different approach to animation, you can see the similarities pretty clearly; the facial expressions, eyes, mouths, and general poses carry across well.

EDIT: Fixed to remove two Tate-looking Shida shots.

To see someone go from solid but unremarkable to something truly special is encouraging. I've yet to watch or read One Piece but I'll always be grateful that Tate learned as much as he did from the series.

Do we have any info on any of the key animators working on 81? NEP doesn't look very promising.
Feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

Nada, only Shimanuki for sure, unless some animators have been tweeting and I just haven't heard yet.

Neither NEP were particularly promising but both were great. I wouldn't worry. It's weird though, you think they'd show their best work.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Yeah, and I think it's important to note that there was almost no action shown in this NEP, so there might be some good stuff in the full episode. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst, like always.

This has been bugging recently, so Imma just ask about it.
In the OP, the actual tournament arena is CGI in some shots, or at least I think it is.
Could that carry over to the actual tournament in the show?

The only shot that looks like the arena might be CG to me is the shot of the buff dude dashing forward near the end, I could be wrong though.
Either way there is nothing stopping them from using CG for the arena, it's a very simple design so it's just a matter of if those in charge want to use CG or not.

It seems they don't have a valid SSL certificate.

Not trying to be rude, but I'm not entirely sure about the frames from DBZ. I don't think all of them are Tate's work. Some of them look too different. For example, Goku from episode 180 looks like Kazuya Hisada. I'm confused.
