For some of us, we see it for more than just being a short thing that used TFS. It's, honestly, just heartbreaking for those who were very much looking forward to it, & find it funny, only to be taken away. Also, did you not read some of the previous comments? Some of them perfectly explain exactly why we care. Read them.TheUltimateNinja wrote:I don't see why people even care so much about this, it was just a little clip that wasn't even that good.

I did read them and I still think this is being overblown, matt0044 is the only one with close to decent reasons.Scsigs wrote:For some of us, we see it for more than just being a short thing that used TFS. I've stated some reasons on YouTube myself, but I guess I can sum up here. Also, they've probably been stated already here.TheUltimateNinja wrote:I did read them and I still think this is being overblown, matt0044 is the only one with close to decent reasons.
1. It's Team Four Star. Who better to do that than the leaders in Abridged series online? They've already made fun of the memes & lines themselves, so it's a stroke of brilliance. Overdone, maybe, but still good nonetheless. It fits right in with their style well. Meta is a great kind of humor when done right &, IMHO, they did it right.
2. It's FUNi poking fun at themselves. The original dub had a few moments of decent scripting, but most of it was bad & even the actors hate that dub.
3. Acknowledging the fandom. Dragon Ball Z has very few moments of meta humor, so that scene was perfect for it. Having the dub poke fun at some of the more...stupid liberties taken with the Z dub is just great for longtime fans who've wanted better dubbing from the studio for the franchise. The scene was rife for some serious liberties in this direction & it was a big disappointment when it was replaced. I admit, the jokes were a bit overplayed, & probably would've been funnier a few years ago or so, but they were still really well done. I still had a great time with it.
Humor IS subjective, so I understand some not finding it funny. I just find it too hilarious to hate.

Eh, at this point all that really matters to me is that we don't simply get the Z dub scene as is like the TV airing, since we're now 100% sure the TFS scene won't be on Home Video.TheUltimateNinja wrote: I did read them and I still think this is being overblown, matt0044 is the only one with close to decent reasons.

I have a very strong feeling that Funi's Kai TFC sets will be reverse imported to Japan, especially since the International cut is longer than the Japanese TV cut. Toei hasn't stopped Funi's DVDs being marked as Region 2/B (for the most part/as far as I know), so even if Toei doesn't like reverse importation, they probably want Funi to play it safe.Scsigs wrote:it's not like the English dub's going to reach Japan, right?

I meant the games' dubs. Though, I do understand it from their perspectives, as our prices are better than theirs most of the time. I don't doubt that some of them are combing google or eBay, getting ready to order our sets.Danfun64 wrote:I have a very strong feeling that Funi's Kai TFC sets will be reverse imported to Japan, especially since the International cut is longer than the Japanese TV cut. Well, while I'm not as heated up about the Abridged screw up thing as some, I still wanted to see them and it's a bit of a bummer that we didnt.
Aight, now I gotta know where you pulled that last part from. Where and when have any of the cast said that they hate the original Z dub?Scsigs wrote: 2. It's FUNi poking fun at themselves. They've never outright said they hate it, but Sabat and Schemmel in particular have both enthusiastically praised Kai giving them a chance to redo their older work. The implication in their words is pretty easy to read: They know the old dub wasn't that good, they know they're a lot better now, they're confident they finally did it right this time(Which they have).Bansho64 wrote:Aight, now I gotta know where are you pulled that last part from. I'm sure someone has some timestamped interviews and panels where this is discussed.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Chris Sabat has been quite explicit about it before:Robo4900 wrote:They've never outright said they hate it, but Sabat and Schemmel in particular have both enthusiastically praised Kai giving them a chance to redo their older work. They almost certainly don't hate their original efforts, however. I know Sabat also tweeted a bunch of stuff lately saying they were proud of what they managed to achieve back in the day in terms of popularity. He's got his head on straight regarding the quality of each dub, though.

Yeah, I already knew this. I've known it for a while now that they thought that. Thanks anyways. I was mainly focusing on the "hate" part because I've been seeing that tossed around lately and I frankly just don't think it's true.Robo4900 wrote: They've never outright said they hate it, but Sabat and Schemmel in particular have both enthusiastically praised Kai giving them a chance to redo their older work. Yeah, that sounds about right. And, honestly, I don't think he's wrong eitherAjay wrote: They almost certainly don't hate their original efforts, however. "Hate" is a really strong word in this case, and one that gets thrown around far too often on the Internet. It's sort of how an artist feels about the drawings they did way back in grade school. Not up to today's standards, but decent given the time and circumstances.

That's a pretty good analogy, though perhaps comparing the old dub to an artist's works way back in grade school is going a bit too far.Valerius Dover wrote:"Hate" is a really strong word in this case, and one that gets thrown around far too often on the Internet. I cannot believe they didn't use TFS scene in that episode! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BS-HiOzcjJg
The one they showed was so bad ugh. And it's from the original Z? How can you not use TFS. It was so perfect and they ruined it. Truly is tragic...

Oh, I don't dislike the Z dub or anything, not trying to imply anything with the statement. Toei allowed FUNi to release Resurrection "F" on BD mere weeks after their release and with no locked subtitles to my knowledge too so they definitely don't care about reverse importation. As for Japanese folks actually doing that with TFC, I am doubtful there isn't much in TFC for them.Danfun64 wrote:I have a very strong feeling that Funi's Kai TFC sets will be reverse imported to Japan, especially since the International cut is longer than the Japanese TV cut. Re: "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Ignoring the TFS side of things, I feel bad for Nick, Curtis and Lawrence as actors. Nick is certainly an actor as proven by his past work for Funi and this is basically him losing a role and being replaced last minute. Some more recent voice actors in Funimations pool have come from not only internet parodies like TFS, but song covers and fandubs. I just find it so sad that the voice work that made someone like Nick get a job in VAing, is the exact thing that as led to him being replaced in an official product.
That aside, to the haters of this scene, I must ask. Would it be more enjoyable if it wasn't the TFS crew doing the Voices or if you didn't know it was them doing the voices with the script being the exact same? Cause none of these are TFS jokes, they're jokes about the old dub and the old state of the DBZ product in English in a "Look how far we're come guys!" kind of way. You don't need to know who TFS are to understand the humor here.

Exactly. I can't help but feel awful for amateurs getting their time to shine, however brief it was, only for some corporate bullcrap like "the main character likeness" to steal that all away. I hope this doesn't keep FUNi from working with them in other official projects.NintendoBlaze53 wrote:Ignoring the TFS side of things, I feel bad for Nick, Curtis and Lawrence as actors. I love this post, but I feel that even without this little parody skit, if they are as truly talented as you and others say, this is but a minor setback. Its best for them to do actual serious work and be recognized for that instead of just a 2 minute funny skit. I'm not saying this to malign TFS. I'm just saying this isnt the end of the world. They will probably get cast on other anime in a more serious capacity.NintendoBlaze53 wrote:Ignoring the TFS side of things, I feel bad for Nick, Curtis and Lawrence as actors.
