Otakon 2007 Planning
Otakon; July 20th - 22nd; Baltimore, MD
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
As has been brought to my attention, Otakon is but a mere two weeks away at this point! At Otakon, I am typically very hard to track down, since it's not like AnimeNEXT where I'm staffing special events and doing a bunch of panels.
However, at Otakon this year... you can check out the Mike, the Meri, and for the first time ever in a public showcase, the Corey. We are doing a sequel to the successful AnimeNEXT 2005 panel, "The DBZ You've Never Seen". We will be playing Japanese commercials, video game openings, Dragon Box extras, and a whole lot more... including some things that I still need to transfer over to a digital format ^_~.
I have received word that the panel is officially scheduled for Saturday, July 21st @ 5:30 pm Panel 1 (Room 337-338).
Pending time after the presentation, we will potentially do another Q&A segment with some prizes. I can't guarantee anything on that, however. I will definitely try to have another giant batch of promo DVDs to pass out, though!
In addition to the DBZ stuff, we have a video in the AMV contest. It's titled "Never Fall Apart", and it's a collaboration between myself, Meri, and Jeff. It was submitted to the "Sentimental/Romance" category, so hopefully that wasn't changed on us. We're not involved in any AMV panels at this year's Otakon, but you'll definitely see us at the main contest showing Friday night. If you can see anything in there. I hear it's big. Really big.

I will be there all weekend, and all 2/3/whatever days of the con. I'm sure I can pull myself away from whatever else is happening for the panel. I'd assume most other folks among us who are attending the con will try to be there. I'm eager to meet up with anyone from the site.
Also, I'll have my PSP with me, and I'll take on anybody from the site in Shin Budokai 2.

Looking like a small DaizEX turnout so far.
By the way, if one or two of my friends coming along with me didn't happen to have ever pre-ordered their tickets/passes/whatever... how hard is it usually for them to register at the door?

Well, I'm posting from Otakon! Um, actually, from the Marriott a couple blocks away.
It's been a nice time so far. I've done some shopping (snagged the Slug/Cooler box set, and History of Trunks! Keeping an eye out for Bardock), and sat in on the FanFiction 101 panel. I'll be at the DBZ Uncut Panel panel later tonight, and I'll definitely be at DaizEX's panel tonight. I'm carrying my PSP around, too, ready to take on anyone in SB2.

It wasn't that full.tarsonis wrote:I tried to get into the panel, but they closed it saying it was full and wouldn't allow anyone else in unless someone left. :/
Whoever the folks coming in after us were, they were mean. We barely had, like, a minute before they started yelling at us to get out.
Anywho, the panel was very cool. I've gotta get me a HQ copy of that CGI/Dance video thing, somehow. That was tiz-ight.
Oh, and Mike's a tad chubbier in person than I'd imagined.

Personally I think that is an understatement. Mike and Meri always wonder on the Podcast, why is Funimation still putting out DBZ stuff, and why are more games being produced, when the show finished its first run in 1995... I think regardless of how old Dragonball is, whether one talks about DB, DBZ, or even DBGT, the love for it is still extremely strong today. God bless Akira Toriyama.SSj Kaboom wrote:It wasn't that full.tarsonis wrote:I tried to get into the panel, but they closed it saying it was full and wouldn't allow anyone else in unless someone left. :/

Security as a whole at Otakon was fine, but there were a few power-trippers, one of which was the fat black chick what probably was the one that tried to take you out of the room. At least you still eventually got in, and that's good.Whoever the folks coming in after us were, they were mean. We barely had, like, a minute before they started yelling at us to get out.
The panel was a tremendous success. Kudos to Mike and Meri for a wonderful presentation. Every now and then Mike and Meri should do one of these DBZ rarities panels and "clearing up misconceptions" panels that they touch on every so often on the Podcast. Again, it is thanks to Mike and Meri and their websites that have turned me from a Dragonball hater to a Dragonball appreciator.
Odd, since to me he looked like he lost a little weight since last I saw him at AWA....Oh, and Mike's a tad chubbier in person than I'd imagined.

Hey, folks:
I'm going to lock this thread, since its purpose has been served. I'll ask that when the next podcast episode comes out (which will discuss the panel and other things at the con), you stick to the material at hand in the discussion, and do so over there. Thanks!
