And Yamamuro's role in Super seems to be pretty minor outside of character designs. Like I said, it seems like the animators are allowed to do what they want for the most part (outside of obviously having rough work corrected) so I don't think Yamamuro is that big of a detractor for animators to work on the show. If the show had a respected character designer I don't think things would be much different than they are now, maybe we'd have a few more animators, but not many.JulieYBM wrote:The character designer is still important. Not simply because of their reputation, but because of their ability to create character designs and expressions that inspire other animators to want to work on the series and create their own drawings. Yamamuro also just so happens to be known specifically for not having the creative environment that animators want to work in.

The presence of two chief animation supervisors whose jobs are to bring the regular animation supervisors closer to the character designs says differently. Yamamuro is still the face of Dragon Ball and until that changes it's productions are going to continue to be at a disadvantage.ArchedThunder wrote:And Yamamuro's role in Super seems to be pretty minor outside of character designs. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 81
Tsuji and Ide don't even follow the character designs very closely, Tsuji especially, and they seem to focus mainly on correcting rough stuff, Ide especially. I don't think that Shida or Otsuka have ever been corrected in and episode for example. I'm not saying that Yamamuro isn't a detriment, but I just don't think he's that big of a detriment, especially when the biggest issue has always been the state of the production.JulieYBM wrote: The presence of two chief animation supervisors whose jobs are to bring the regular animation supervisors closer to the character designs says differently. And we likely have two chief animation supervisors to help out the regular supervisors because of the production more than anything.

That was Futoshi Higashide. Definitely one of his best drawings in the show.Nasryyy wrote:

do ishikawa animates or does he only do art and close-ups ??
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 81
I assume you're not asking whether he can actually animate, since I think that's obvious. I guess you're asking whether his focus is placed on art or animation.Nasryyy wrote:do ishikawa animates or does he only do art and close-ups ??
Having looked at his history, he does seem to have a focus on the character art. Across Disk Wars, on all of the episodes he's supervised, he's always way down the bottom of staff lists, playing a secondary role to the major players on his episodes. Even on Saint Seiya Omega, where he was nothing but a key animator, he seems to pop up on major episodes, again, right down the bottom in support of the important animators.
It does seem like his illustrative abilities are where his success comes from, rather than plain old animation. Aside from some exceptions here and there, his work on Super does seem to follow that trend.

So Mashima is doing 193 pages of Storyboard for the upcoming Fairy Tail film, got me thinking how awesome it would have been if Toriyama did something like that for RF, I think the SB is one aspect we all can agree wasn't very good about the film.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 81
I would love to see Toriyama storyboards. Hopefully that movie will get a good director.

What the ? I thought Shimanuki wasn't a good animator anymore ? That cut was great .
Speaking of Rof, I remember that movie having great animation and but I rewatched it and it's nothing special.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Eh, it's okay. Certainly decent as far as Shimanuki goes, but it's still marred by his trademark stiffness.kinisking wrote:What the ? I thought Shimanuki wasn't a good animator anymore ? That cut was great .
I do really like the effects, though! There are some cool things in there.

It might be the story boarding that's distorting my perception, but I feel like it's pretty smooth. I'm not seeing any of the stiffness.Ajay wrote:Eh, it's okay. I wish we get that kind of animation from Shimanuki, I thought the Special was done by freelancers because how awesome and different the direction is.Ajay wrote:All on Kanzenshuu's main site - http://www.kanzenshuu.com/movie/episode-of-bardock/Gashif Aldi wrote:About Bardock's OVA Special, can anyone give me the team list who did the OVA?

It's way better than his Super work or at least most of it. I can still see the stiffness a little, something about the way limbs move and the general animation looked a little stiff.kinisking wrote:It might be the story boarding that's distorting my perception, but I feel like it's pretty smooth. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 81
More than stiff, the way how I see his work is too slow sometimes and emociones, everything is at the same speed and it becomes boring sometimes, I feel the same with Yamamuro but thankfully his fights are faster and enjoyable.aaronWgamer wrote:It's way better than his Super work or at least most of it.
