Than I have no word for you.
No, I'm referring to his "extension" of Super Saiyan 2, which made him look like a fighting genius even above Goku and Vegeta (even Whis makes a comment of the sort), when Trunks should be a tactical numbskull.
super saiyan 1 had that same thing though that's why there are 4 different forms of that 1 transformation.
Even if that was new, that was explained that he unlocked it when training with the Z sword.

Tactical numbskull, trunks made one mistake
Yes, and if Super Saiyan 2 worked the same way Super Saiyan worked, then Goku or Vegeta would have figured out a way to master the form. Be it when Goku was training in the other world for 7 years, or after the Boo arc when Vegeta couldn't achieve Super Saiyan 3. But they didn't, which makes Trunks, the novice, look like more of a tactical genius than Goku and Vegeta.
Yes, and one mistake even a toddler wouldn't make. He's a complete and utter moron when it comes to fighting.
ekrolo2 wrote:I guess Vegeta's tactic is meant to be like what Future Trunks does against his dad in DBMultiverse? Switching between an easier to maintain, weaker form then bursting momentarily into a stronger one?
Points for variety I guess but the anime showed us that a tactic like that can work maybe once and certainly not to the degree Vegeta seems to be using it here.
Here's my stupid and lame headcanon, what if Vegeta was doing that during his first encounter to black when he was using ssj2, but in actuality he was doing short bust attack with ssb,but no one is noticing
lol when people say the monga isn't creative, you gotta give point for variety and creativity.

You would be a moron if you did not even bother to take one second to look at something that's obviously not it. This would be like confusing a fork for a spoon.

Post Boo arc was the worst possible time for Future Trunks to return.

SSG was a brand new form and being able to access it voluntarily would have been as much of a "reveal" against Freeza as yet ANOTHER form after only a handful of episodes. Every instance of SSB could have just been SSG.
I think SSB is a valid transformation, but having it that soon after the battle against Beerus... As it's been said, looks like a good marketing choice for a new movie, more than a good storytelling choice. But who knows... Goku and Vegeta fighting in SSG against Freezer would have been good enough and he could have saved the SSB / SSGSS for next arcs. I would have revealed the SSB form against Hit or maybe with Vegetto against Merged Zamasu. For then, the SSG would have been well used.

Agreed. Speculating here, it was all for marketing. New transformation equals an excuse to create a bunch of materials like toys. The movie was clearly made without much thought put into the story(continuity).
Why is this suddenly a thing?
Blue was created because God's role in the story was fulfilled by the end of the movie and Toriyama said there was no need for God to be brought up again.
It's a convenient way to showcase a new level of power, due to the different color and different aura, while keeping the iconography of the Super Saiyan, specifically Goku's hair.

Trunks having asspulls is better than him being a useless side character.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Fans were also complaining about Super being Goku and Vegeta's show, and almost everyone wanted a darker story and Trunks being the one to beat the villain.
This fanbase can't be pleased, even though I must admit these things could have been handled a little better.

oh god, looked at the art for this chapter and future trunks looks like some weird elongated kid trunks. His proportion are definitely not right just look at them. Of the images we got so far the art really looks off compared to what we're used to. Wonder if this is the effect of Toyotaro being occupied with the universal survival arc.

You're forgetting about the fact that Vegeta loses 90% of his power each time he tries this.

It such a double edge sword. How do you keep Future Trunks relevant with the ever inflating "battle powers", while also not pissing off the portion of the fandom that want power consistency? The handling of Future Trunks in the manga has left a lot to be desired. I honestly wouldn't care if he died... and that's a major red flag to me. Because when I don't care about the fate of the central character for an arc, that's an indication of bad storytelling. Future Trunks' asspulls in the anime were really stretching it, but as least I cared about his fate.

Black's instant healing factor in the Anime made him extremely broken, almost to the point where it was unlikable. Zenkai's DO NOT work that way, they just don't. Now maybe Because it's a God's soul in a Saiyan body maybe it led to a mutation, but that's never stated or implied.
In the Manga, Black's zenkai gains are enormous but because he needs the other Zamasu to heal him first makes it infinitely more grounded and sensible.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
