Budokai 2 Theme Stuff~~

Post by SaiyaJedi » Tue Feb 24, 2004 7:08 pm

Hey everybody!

Through the diligent efforts of this guy, I now have a decent set of lyrics by which to translate the opening song to Budokai 2. However, not having the full version of the song, I can only check it against about half the lyrics. :?

That said, the guy on the forum also posts instructions on how to get the full version of the song off the disc (or the Japanese version, at least). This is what he had to say (translated to English by me):
Japanese Message Board no Kakarotto wrote:First, you need a PC drive that can read DVDs. Then, you need a program called MUSA Play. Get it by searching on Google. Once you get it, in MUSA Play, open "ADX_JP.AFS" in the disk's "USER" folder. When you do that, many file names will be displayed. Among them, "00284.wav" is the full version. After that, the user is okay to copy it onto the computer. Since the size of the finished file is quite large, it's probably a good idea to use some software to reduce the bitrate.

However, my disk isn't from the original shipment (there's no card with it), so I don't know whether you'll be able to do it the same way on the first-edition one, but please try.
So... anybody want to help me out and see if they can find the file on their own disc? Granted, I have no idea if the file will be in the same spot (or if the program will even work) on the American or European release, but I suppose it's worth a shot. If you can't find the program the guy mentions, I can also post a link to a page you can download it from. :)

...Come to think of it, this would probably have been more appropriate for the "Staff Help Requests" forum. :? Well, whatever. It's a videogame, after all. 8)

Doesn't the European version ALSO have the Japanese intro? I know some people here on the board have the European version. If someone would like to follow the instructions and send me the raw, uncompressed *.wav file, I'd be more than happy to do some encodes and such... ^^.

And... if you're interested, here's a link to the program mentioned by the other guy. I'm not exactly sure how it works (and since I own neither a Windows PC nor any PS2 games, I can't try it out), but it seems like the message board guy's description was pretty straightforward. If you just can't get through it, though, there's also MF Audio, which seems to serve the same purpose, but is in English.

So... good luck! :)

He DID state it's quite large, and maybe your computer doesn't support its über bitrate power. He said to use some software to reduce that bitrate, so you can play it..

Now, which software does that?

If a PS2 can handle it, the bitrate can't be that uber-powerful. Granted, PS2s do have dedicated hardware, but any PC above 2 gig is about a billion times more powerful anyway.

I think the problem is with MF Audio actually.
AFS files are kinda like batch files that contain a whole lot of ADX files in them. Each ADX is the actual track/sound-effect/whatever, and needs to be converted to wav seperately. MF Audio requires you to figure out by yourself where the ADX file you need (in this case #284) begins inside the AFS batch, and where it ends. And we don't know that.
What you really need to use (since MUSAplay is nowhere to be found) is adx2wav, and more specificly, it's "afs_extract" option (all of this in dos/cmd), which extracts all of the ADX files from the AFS, in it's folder (so you need to copy the AFS to the harddrive first).
Once done just find the one numbered #284, and use the program's other option to convert it to wav.

What we still need is someone with the PAL/JAP version (hoping the PAL one has the FULL version aswell somewhere), and then if this wasn't clear enough I can guide him how to rip out the song :)
This method is possible and does work, that's how I just ripped the full instrumental version off my friend's game (let me know if you're interested Mike ;)), which is the US version. Or atleast I'm pretty sure it was. Whatever it was, the full vocal jap version wasn't there. So all I can do is turn to you guys now

OK, so I've got a thousand or so ADX files ripped from "adx_us.afs."

I'm trying to use adx2wav, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I'm using the command:

adx2wav d:\budokai\adx_us_284.adx

... where 284 is any number of numbers I've tried, and it says:

d:\budokai\adx_us_284.adx -> adx_us_284.wav

... but no .wav file is created anywhere. Huh? What am I doing wrong...? o_O

Nevermind. It was putting the WAV files into the ADX2WAV folder, rather than the Budokai folder. ROCK.

Unfortunately, adx_us_284.adx isn't the theme song. It's some 11 KB file. I'll check out all the "big" files to see what's in 'em...

*crackes knuckles*

Mucho thanks for the help!!

Well yeah, guess it makes sense that the tracks are numbered differently in the US version than the JAP one.
Checking the big ones should do the trick, yep.
I wonder if the US version even HAS a full version of one of the songs...

I figured it all out last night. I've successfully ripped both the full-length instrumental of the Budokai 2 opening theme (it's 4:14 long), and I also ripped the ending "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" instrumental from the first game (it's 2:37 long).

I take it you have the Japanese version of the second game? Or at least a version that contains the Japanese vocal version of the song? Could you send me the *.adx file that contains it? I'll extract the WAV and encode it (and such) myself, if you do. That would be muchly appreciated!

Expect sone new music posted soon, folks~!

Like I just mentioned, whatever game version I have (pretty sure it's the US, would make sense), it doesn't have the vocal jap version. I only have the full instrumental one, just like you do. Which is why we need someone who does have the JAP/PAL version :\

Glad to help :)
The full instrumental version is so great, that I just can't wait to hear the full vocal one...

I guess I'm in the minority that hated Budokai 2.

Sorry to OT, but Toto, who is that boxing guy on the Avatar? He looks familiar.

Thanx.

Yay! I've been looking forward to that. Finally, something to replace the Balance of Power intrumental snip that I currently have.

I replayed Budokai, to listen to that theme last night. I still love the ending bit, with the 3 frames of Gohan, going from little kid to Cell beater. *sniff*

If no-one has made any progress by the end of next week, I'll see if I can hire out Budokai 2 from the nearest Blockbusters. And I'll steal a mate's PS2, too.

Yeah... if you can get a hold of it, I can give you step-by-step instructions on what to do. It's actually pretty easy.

I forget, does the Jap vocal version have the same name as the US instrumental one?

Anyway I may be able to dig around a few places, may be able to turn something up...
