Gohan not really a bad fighter given his fight with lavender. Not great but not bad as people trying to make him out to be.
It's because people use it as a way to make themselves feel better about him having higher potential than the others. "Oh well, at least he's a worse fighter than the others" is a way to make them feel better and some take it too far. Is Gohan a less skilled fighter than Piccolo, Vegeta, Krillin , Goku and Roshi. Sure. Is he much less skilled ? No. If he was, then he wouldn't be in the team just like Goten and Trunks.
Similarly, this is what Tien and Piccolo fans do but in reverse. "They're more skilled fighters, it's just that they don't have the plot power to keep up. If tactics mattered they would win"
That is why Gohan should not have this power and Tien and Piccolo should. This way we actually get to see better fighters which will then result in better fights in the series.
Gohan is the character that should be left behind.

Personally, I'm of the rare belief that they should all be left behind. Goku should go to another plane of dimension and find new friends who can challenge him without gimmicks and handicaps.

Tien had Goku beat him tactically in like every way during the 23rd Budokai . I wouldn't call him a better fighter than Gohan.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

The weird thing is, that they seemed to be getting rid of that trait with Gohan in Rof. Both the movie and the arc had him take the situation with Tagoma or shisami seriously. In Rof he even states that he wants to be careful. I'm not sure if they're regressing the character or if this was a special situation because it was a friendly match.
After twice now losing the people he loves because of his cockyness, it kind of makes sense that he'd take the situation seriously by now.
I'd blame the situation in the boo saga in Goten and Trunks considering he told them to be careful but j guess it's debatable.

Upon rewatching the latest episode i realised that during the fight between Goku and Krillin neither of them flew at all. They said that they were going to follow the rules of tournament so does this mean no flying at all?
There was numerous times during that fight that flying would have been advantageous for example dodging Krillin Destructo Disks.
Honestly I would like no flying at all it would give more opportunity to use actual martial arts instead of beam struggles and punching each other flying.
The feel of the fight was really different when Goku had to carefully dodge between the Destructo Disks or when he was being pushed back by ki blasts, where normally he would have just flew above them.
No flying would give it a more original Dragon Ball feel to the fights where positioning and postures were important, especially in a tournament environment.

It wouldn't of gotten to that point if he didn't repeat his Cell fuck up

Goku was wanked to hell in Z, even when he wasn't in the room and everyone else was secondary to him. In fact, this was a major issue Goku had, which is why he didn't want to do anything in the Buu Saga.

Manga version wasn't like that only the anime
In the manga he still just sits back and waits to see how 'Buus changed' and even allows Gotenks to go and fight. Though at least it isn't the cocky shit.

He didn't just sit back. He was smart enough to know that boo was planning something and that's why he was wondering . He also insisted to fight boo but Goten and Trunks fused without his permission. He also told them to be careful. You act like he was acting careless the entire time.
How does the anime differ from the manga?

That seems to be the case yes:
"...Bukujutsu and other techniques for flying through the air will not work in the World of Nothing." as per Herms summary of #81.
I wonder if the solar flare would even work in the world of void. The technique needs sun to work right? Even if it worked wouldn't it blind their own teammates too?

I wouldn't be surprised if they put this rule because Roshi can't fly..

The Taiyo-ken converts ki into light so it doesn't need the sun at all. Kuririn's new technique should work without issues.
Shouldn't we get info about the next episodes this week?

A bunch of things, you often will prefer things the way they did it in the anime, but the manga is the incredible. I recommend it a lot. I still need to finish it though (:
Are we too old to enjoy new Dragon Ball movies/series?

Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.

Its getting off topic so I guess we shouldn't even be talking about it, but for clarifications sake I was speaking about how the Gohan versus Boo fight differed in the anime from a narrative standpoint. I don't remember it being any different.

His new solar flare can be very useful in this tournament given its rules.
That's part of why I'm rooting for him to make it far into this tournament.
I think Krillin and Piccolo deserve to go far in the tournament. They don't get enough shine and they're smart fighters. I'm expecting Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Krillin and 17 to do the best though.

Right at the start of the tournament Goku and Jiren will power up and push every single other contestant out of the ring. Just for this episode, the closing theme will be Mr.Toriyama's laughing track playing over a dancing Tori-Bot.
