This is disappointing, I was hoping to see him soon.Ajay wrote:Little bit of bad news, at least for the next month or two.
I asked Naotoshi Shida on Twitter if he will be working on Super anytime soon, and he responded that he's not working on it.
Obviously the language barrier makes it a little hard, so his phrasing to my response isn't the clearest with regards to the future, but given his previous tweets always mentioned whether he's working or scheduled to be working on the series, I'm assuming it's probably not great news.
On the flip side, the tournament hasn't even begun yet, so while he may not be working on anything right now or schedule for the foreseeable future, there's always a chance he'll be involved the finale!

Yes, it is. But first we need to see next episode titles before jumping to conclusions.ArchedThunder wrote: This is disappointing, I was hoping to see him soon.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
Good news, I told Shida on Twitter that I hope he works on Super some time in the near future (and of course that I love his work) and he replied.
"I will definitely return to Dragon Ball(^^)"

So even if he's not working on it now, he will be eventually.

Should we gather the troops and spam his twitter with our love for his work?! Anyway, a much more pleasing answer.

No, just leave him be. If he doesn't want to, he doesn't want to.FortuneSSJ wrote:Should we gather the troops and spam his twitter with our love for his work?! Anyway, a much more pleasing answer.

It's a little disappointing but he graced us in the Trunks arc twice! so can only be grateful. If he's busy he's busy not much we can do & if there is the chance he can work on the finale like Ajay suggested that would only be great, with his response to Arched's tweet it seems he wasn't put off by like the production so that's good.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
It's not like he doesn't want to, he isn't scheduled for future episodes, I mean, it's not up to him to decide that, right?JulieYBM wrote:No, just leave him be. You're right, but his point is understandable.Alee9977 wrote: It's not like he doesn't want to, he isn't scheduled for future episodes, I mean, it's not up to him to decide that, right?
Personally I wouldn't like if I had a bunch of people bothering me asking when I would work in x show. It depends of each one.
It's not what happened here, I'm just giving an extreme example of what could happen.
I was joking with that comment though.

Well in Shida's case, I definitely think it's up to him. He is one of Toei's top animators and as far as I know and from what I've heard these top animators get to pick and choose what they want to work on.
Shida started his career in Dragon Ball which is probably why he still shows up out of respect and love for the franchise. That's my guess.

Shida's working on PreCure at the moment, so perhaps he'll hop back over to Dragon Ball after that.

He was a supervisor on #39 next to Kitano. Though that shot has always confused me since it's muddied by Ide's corrections.BakaManiaHD wrote:Why does this shot reminds me of manabe?

That's a relief. They have managed this arc well so far. Just hope that we get to see some other talented animators on the show in the meantime.ArchedThunder wrote:Good news, I told Shida on Twitter that I hope he works on Super some time in the near future (and of course that I love his work) and he replied.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
can anyone tell me who supervised the crossover of toriki one piece and dragon ball ? and who animated what ? it has a lot of shimanuki's traits
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
I like shida, but they should save him for later on, like maybe he will animate goku vs jiren,I want to ask everyone, which animator you want in the 80 match battle Royale aside from shida

I could only find the staff for 2nd half of the special. Here it isNasryyy wrote:can anyone tell me who supervised the crossover of toriki one piece and dragon ball ? and who animated what ? it has a lot of shimanuki's traits

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
The list of animators I would love to see pop up is so huge, but I'll just stick to people who have worked on super recently (including openings and endings). The gr wrote:I like shida, but they should save him for later on, like maybe he will animate goku vs jiren,I want to ask everyone, which animator you want in the 80 match battle Royale aside from shida
Higashide, Tate, Otsuka, Watanabe Koudai, Inaba, Takahashi Yuya, Miuma, Manabe (more for his art), and Karasawa all come to mind.
Inaba and Miuma only showing up on one episode each for the Exhibition was peculiar, especially in Inaba's case since he only did corrections on an episode, no animation. Fingers crossed that's so that those two can deliver some nice stuff at the Battle Royale in a few weeks.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
That's the staff for the full special, actually. Since the episodes were never broadcast separately it's hard to tell who did what, although we can definitely say that Shida storyboarded One Piece Episode #590 since he tended to storyboard for One Piece at that time. Yokoyama Kenji is a One Piece animation supervisor, so he was also likely in charge of the second half.Sodhi wrote:I could only find the staff for 2nd half of the special. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 84
Interesting. I guess that is why I could not find staff list for Toriko #99.
