I'm not really sure at this point if they were part of the outline or not, but they could set up Goku as antagonist just by revealing that the tournament was made due to him rushing Zen'o. The actual battles wouldn't be necessary at all, besides maybe Toppo vs Goku. Sidra still could be part of the set up and tournament even without the exhibition matches too. He could still be the one turning everyone against Goku through words for example.
If the battles were Toei-only though, then something like Gohan's upcoming training with Piccolo could happen off screen before he's even recruited for the team, rather than in these 40 hours before the tournament.

The poachers might have nothing to do with the ship, #17 cannot sense ki. Goku could help him find them. That ship and its occupant/s just tern up in the same place because they hunting Goku maybe?
Anyway you've got me hoping one of the GoD is on that ship now.

All in all, the whole Goku not telling the others about the consequences of the tournament feels like a very artificial way to add drama. I mean, why not just tell it now? It would make the fighters take this tournament more seriously and would be more alert of the dire consequences. Plus, the Daishinkan would most likely reiterate the rules anyway by the time the Tournament of Power occurs.
Though I am excited for more training between Piccolo and Gohan. More screentime between the two is always good and the Tien/Yurin stuff might just entertain me enough.
So... Goku and 17 vs Intergalactic Space Poachers? This seems like something out of Star Trek... I love it!

Your are right about That, but Man it would suck if the manga skipped Those matches, that better not be the case, because why all the universe will get triggered, what because they watch a god tube clip of goku and Zeno , you know like zamasu

Thats smart on the Hakaishins, Weiss was mad at Beerus for wanting to cheat and when he told him if he could bribe Daishinkan, the Angels would accuse them to Daishinkan if they get to find out they plant to eliminate Goku.
Slim chance its a Hakaishin or one of the ToP participants ordered to kill Goku. If it were to be a Hakaishin I would be going with..Helles, could set up the gag of she falling in love with 17, and thats why she doesnt hakai Goku.

Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

If the manga skips the exhibition and a lot of the build up then Gohan's return is going to be weird there, especially since it doesn't have any of the stuff that the anime had before this arc of Gohan returning to training.

I don't know about that theory, cause then we would have to wait like 5 or 10 episodes for 17 to get married. Then 15 or more episodes for him to have a bio kid (Took awhile for bra to show up in super) then 9 or 10 more episodes for him to adopt kids. I say, there just busy.
