They treat it as if it was an English word saying "ooze-aru" when its "oh-zaru". It's mostly an issue of the 大 kanji having an unusual spelling of the long o, though.
This aslo grinds my gears. But to be fair these DB YouTubers don't speak Japanese(and neither do I)and most of them grew up with FUNi's dub. It's normal for people to mispronounced a word when there not too familiar with it. I used too pronounced Budokai as Budo-kai with a short o because thats how I grew up calling it and I didn't know how it was supposed to be pronounced. It wasn't until I stared watching Dragon Ball in Japanese that I learned that it's pronounced with a long o. Bu-doo-kai, with the accent in the do part.

What really grinds my gears is how different the FUNi version of Dragon Ball, in terms of names and terminology, is compared to the original Japanese version. It sucks how some of us have to explain why we pronounce Saiyan as Sigh-yan(in English)and not Sei-en like the rest of the English fandom. Also every time I hear GO-ku I think, "No thats not how Goku is pronounced!". But I understand why English speakers say it that way.

I think it's best to let fans used their bad name adaptations and not correct them when they say "Space Warriors", "Seiyen", "Pikkoro Daimaku" etc. All which are real adaptations from different dubs. Just like I don't like it when someone says "Eww why are you pronouncing Goku like that you weebo."

The thing is that even the YouTubers who know how to pronounce all the other words right get it wrong, so that's why I'm complaining about it in particular.
Do whatever you like, ghost.

I understand how you feel. Like I said on my previous reply, I dont like how most English speakers pronounce Goku as GO-ku even if they do pronounce all the other Japanese names correctly. But all I can do is live with it really. Unless you want to be that guy who's always correcting fans for using dub terms. Though mispronouncing a name is not the same as using dub terms, so I guess it's ok to show someone the correct pronounciation of a foreign word when they mispronounce it.

I really hate the, "you only like it because you saw it first" thing. Just let people like what they like.

Very, very often true from my experience.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

The concept of powering up to your max then arbitrarily weakening yourself because... reasons. Like how people say Future Trunks isn't as strong as post-SSG Goku during their sparring match and Goku is just holding back on him. Okay, if Future Trunks is just SPC level in SS2, why the fuck doesn't Goku just use Base to test him? Base Vegeta can kick Gotenks' ass so either Trunks is really this OP or this excuse is bullshit. Seriously, look at the numbers here:

Future Trunks - 1, 50 (SS1), 100 (SS2)

Goku - 50 000 (Base), 2 500 000 (SS1), (5 000 000 SS2), 100 (Restrained SS2 Goku according to this moronic logic).

Do you see how dumb this is? Trunks' powers are bullshit, there is no convoluted holding back going on here.

To be honest, I'd rather they try to use the correct terms and mispronounce them, than to use incorrect or dub terms. I'd take Ooze-aru over Great Ape any day.

Great Ape is actually what the official subtitles say though.

Give me the DiC score from Sailor Moon or the recycled Masked Rider soundtrack from Digimon any day of the week for dub replacement scores (or hell even the Shuki Levy score for the early DBZ dub)
The score for the Ocean Group-voiced early FUNimation/Saban dub was actually composed by Ron Wasserman, just for the record. He just went uncredited.

"Great Ape" isn't an incorrect or dub term though, it's a pretty literal translation. I'd rather have meaningful English (especially in an otherwise English video) than botched Japanese.

Yeah, go all the way or dont do it at all. I can say Ohzaru right but I'd rather use Great Ape than Ooze aru.

That those are REAL words and pronounced right, Oozearu doesnt mean anything at all, its a bastardized japanese word. Sure it would be a much nicer thing to use Ohzaru, but its too hard for people so lets go for the better alternative.

While I'm not a fan of the old Funimation dub of DBZ and how they altered Goku's personality, I don't see how Schemmel sounds like Superman in that dub. He doesn't sound anything like Tim Daly and George Newbern.
