Yeah. I can agree. The fandom treats him like a joke and the author doesn't care for him and Toei has just made him into a bigger joke.Lord Beerus wrote:Considering how much Yamcha is a glorified measuring stick in practically every battle he's in within the manga and how he intentionally left Yamcha out of Ressurection F, a story that Toriyama himself scripted, I think it's safe to say he doesn't care for the character.TekTheNinja wrote:Aw, now I'm sad because I'm reminded that Rossi is here instead of Yamcha.
Does Toriyama just not like Yamcha anymore or something? It's seeming like that.

Yamcha isn't that bad..
Sure he isn't the strongest, but there isn't anything to dislike about the character, I wonder why Toriyama never includes him anymore

Yamcha's like the Charlie Brown of Dragon Ball (Except Yamcha's actually good at baseball). He's a nice guy with horrible luck and not much talent.
It is a shame Yamcha gets passed over in favor of Kamesennin this arc, especially because of how stale Kamesennin's gags are, but such is life.

On hiatus.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I dispute Yamcha both being a nice guy and lacking talent. He started as a villain, specifically a thief who had no qualms leaving people to die in the desert and he cheated on Bulma. Not say he's a bad guy but he's not a nice guy, there's very few of those in Dragon Ball.Chuquita wrote:Yamcha's like the Charlie Brown of Dragon Ball (Except Yamcha's actually good at baseball). Regarding his talent, he's one of the strongest creatures in the Universe. The Ginyu's were already so powerful to be considered mutants and Yamcha is above them. As far back as the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai we have Kami complementing his talent/potential.
In matters of preference, I much prefer Kame-sennin over Yamcha. Although logically speaking the kids should be in and they bore me for the most part.
At the end of the day, it's all about what the author wants. It seems Yamcha like Chiaotzu before him has been retired. Maybe some day Mr.Toriyama regains interest in the character like he did with Kame-sennin to bring him back.
I wonder if in the Boo Arc people cared so much about Yamcha being retired or everyone else for that matter? It's quite a peculiar phenomenon, even taking into account that Yamcha is decently popular.

Does he do? It's undeniable Yamcha served a particular role for a huge portion of the series, measuring stick. If the point was to portray him as a loser they wouldn't be there.
It seems to me people are projecting onto Mr.Toriyama. I never saw him claim the character was a joke and if he wanted to humiliate him, he could very well put him in the tournament and RoF arc to get a beating.
He didn't, simply he doesn't want to write the character for whatever reason.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yeah, Yamcha gets more hate than he deserves. After Kami beat him, Kami had nothing but good things to say about Yamcha. I mean, Vegeta serves as a measuring stick a lot of the time but he's still a good character and fighter.LightBing wrote:Does he do? There's no indication that Yamcha actually cheated. For one, it's OOC for him to cheat considering all he wanted was to get married. Two, Bulma is more than known to exaggerate and blow things out of proportion. A girl could look in Yamchas direction and she'd say YOURE CHEATING ON ME, yet then has no problem offering her body to someone (General Blue).LightBing wrote:I dispute Yamcha both being a nice guy and lacking talent. The funny thing is that, according to Toriyama, Yamcha really was fooling around when dating Bulma and that's why Bulma dumped him.Dbzfan94 wrote:There's no indication that Yamcha actually cheated. So at the very least, in Toriyama's eyes, Yamcha is the kind of guy that can't keep his dick in pantsTV Anime Guide: Dragon Ball Tenka’ichi Densetsu
Speaking of Yamcha, he was dumped by Bulma, wasn’t he?
That was a shock. I often spoke with Hiromi Tsuru-san, who plays Bulma; both she and I thought Bulma and Yamcha would end up together. And for Vegeta, of all people! It really was a shock. So when I met with Toriyama-sensei, I complained, “Why did it have to be like this?!” Then Toriyama-sensei said, “Come on; Yamcha’s a cheater.” (laughs)

Yes but that contradicts what we know about his character. Toriyama can say whatever he wants but if that information is the opposite of what we know in the manga then does it really hold any weight?Lord Beerus wrote:

Be careful with that statement. There are several moments in the manga where characters do things that are contradictory of their character or should I dig up the cell saga and the buu saga were several people are dumber than they have ever been or do things that have never done. Hell, the plot itself is contradictory.Dbzfan94 wrote:Yes but that contradicts what we know about his character. If you only go with whats consistent in dragon ball, you have to throw out a lot of content. Toriyama is inconsistent but let's not be hypocritical and says it doesn't hold weight in his interviews because they conflict with the manga when said manga conflicts with said manga.

Toriyama often seems to make up answers for interviews in the heat of the moment, and doesn't care about keeping consistency with them afterwards.

Like you, KenKoba1, he has the dilemma of loving women but not being good around them, so he is still wandering blindly in search of the ideal partner he won’t be nervous around. He’s even worked in a host club, but because of his nervousness, it didn’t go well and he was fired. His livelihood is mainly working together with Pu’er as a freelance bodyguard, but he occasionally goes to Tenshinhan’s to help with the farm, as well.

They didnt because we never saw them train. If you didn't know the villians didn't train, then that's on you. In the androids, cells, and Boos case it was extremely obvious that they didn't train. With Freeza, it's not surprising and pretty in character that he didn't.dbzfan7 wrote:So did they before BSing. Won't take much for them to bullshit Yamcha in. They really do not give a single shit. For the record, the tournament will definitely have spectators. The description of the battle arena from the V-Jump magazine a few months ago specifically notes that the semi-circular thing of the arena is for the viewers.Krillin1994 wrote:When do you guys think we will see Yamcha again? it'd be pretty cool if the tournament doesn't have spectators and he decides to train for 48 minutes to become Grand Priest tier.
That said, considering what Yamcha said in episode 83, it’s likely that he won’t be able to join them and would just stay in his place, still waiting for the supposed recruitment.
