Huh. Aside from the shape of the eyes, there really isn't much difference between the main characters, now that I think about it. Majin Boo's an obvious stand out, as is Muten Roshi and Chiaotzu, but everyone else seems to have the same nose, mouth, and jawline.

There are small things that were relied upon to convey different faces: eyes, eyebrows, ears, noses, jawlines, and cheekbones. Unfortunately, most of the Z Warriors look the same.

I'll use Goku as the base and work from there as to not be repetitive.

Goku: no outline on the inside wall of the eyes, regular eyebrows, regular DB nose, regular ears, pointy jaw, no visible cheekbones.
- Gohan and Goten look identical to Goku except the hair
- Vegeta differs from Goku in two ways: eyes and hair. Vegeta's eyes are outlined all the way through (a difference that is lost when they're in Super Saiyan mode, as Goku's eyes are also fully outlined). The hair works 99% of the magic, as it gives Vegeta his distinct visual with the lines for his temples drawn out. Another piece of the magic where you know you're not seeing a close-up of Goku is that Vegeta always has an angry or disinterested look on his face, while Goku's natural demeanor is happy -- though this is more emotion and character than facial features.
- Yamucha basically looks like Goku, but with outlined eyes. In early Dragon Ball, his eyes were different, but that was changed. In fact, I believe that because Yamucha looked so much like Goku, that he was given scars to differentiate him more, conveniently, when Goku grew up in the series.
- Kuririn also would look like Goku is he had a nose. Well, his eyes are also skin-colors... for some reason.
- Tenshinhan also has Goku's facial except for the shape of his eyes and... well, being bald and having a third eye.
- Piccolo too has many of the facial features that Goku has, but he has the greatest difference maker -- his skin color. Of course, he's green. He also is bald with those little things on top of his head. He also differs from Goku with his ears (pointy) and eyebrows, which have no hair and they protrude out, though is you do a close-up of Super Saiyan 3 Goku and color him green, he would look like Piccolo.

Examples of different jawlines and cheekbones (which seemingly go hand-in-hand) include Bora, Nappa, and 16.

However, the faces mostly look the same besides hair. That's why I never understand the argument about Vegetto looking more like either Goku or Vegeta -- they look the same.

Vegeta also has that hard-looking brow that is shared by Trunks.

Even some less important characters like Jeice have the generic facial structure. Toriyama simply draws by "templates" - he has a limited pool of eye shapes, nose shapes, etc. It is apparent subtly with other "templates" - Zarbon gives me a slight General Blue vibe, as he's supposed to be drawn as a "pretty boy" type of character. Nappa, Roshi, Kami, King Piccolo, Mr. Satan and so on have similar aquiline noses. There's a lot of recognisable features.
Do whatever you like, ghost.

Thanks

Kinda of a shame they all look like. Maybe Toriyama should have kept some of the old art styles for different characters

Vegeta and Gokû have different head shapes. Vegeta's head is more heart-shaped. Gokû's is an oval.
On hiatus.

Goku and his relatives have larger eyes than Vegeta and Trunks. The characters looked more different from each other earlier in the series, but as the series got darker characters were much more likely to have a serious look on their face, and everyone's serious face looks pretty much the same. The art style evolved considerably from the beginning of DBZ to the end, and though the newer style had its positives and is the most recognizable DB art style, characters began to look more and more similar to each other and the style mostly lost that old cartoony look it had since the very beginning of the series.
