It would be a shame if Trunks had not a single badass moment in the manga, considering he had plenty in the anime.
By the way I'm quite sure the FT arc won't end this month in the manga.

His first was using his sword sheath to get away from Black
His second was pushing Goku to God form
His third was saving Vegeta and Goku from an immensely more powerful opponent
I hate this thought process of "if he doesn't have an asspull transformation from nowhere with no explanation, then he's worthless"
Not to mention he didn't accomplish anything with the form until the Light Sword. Before that he still relied on Goku and Vegeta saving him
Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
I don’t really think emperior wants Trunks to pull something convtroversial just so he can do something cool, because Trunks doesn’t need any new transformation or the Genki-dama sword to do something noteworthy and awesome. For example, the manga could have Trunks fight against future Zamasu, but instead, Zamasu is faced against Goku -- not only once, but twice.OLKv3 wrote:I hate this thought process of "if he doesn't have an asspull transformation from nowhere with no explanation, then he's worthless"

Trunks in the anime got his own cool scenes way prior to the final battle: he got to have those development scenes with kid Trunks, Vegeta, and Gohan, he got to fight against Zamasu in #57, he got to fight against Black in #63, etc. In the manga, the only times where we saw him fight in the future is him getting his ass kicked. He didn’t even get a development in the manga, and was all good and after he arrived in the present and was chilling playing video games, and his training with Vegeta was only shown in a single panel.
There’s a lot of things Toyotaro can do to make Trunks noteworthy without using the controversial things made in the anime, so there’s no excuse why Trunks isn’t doing anything in the main battle. This arc is his return after being absent in the story for several arcs, and the main enemies are guys attacking his world and killed nearly everyone in it -- including his mother. Him doing nothing noteworthy against Black or Zamasu is one big disappointment, in my opinion.
He started good with him killing Dabra and being on par with Super Saiyan 3 Goku, but he went downhill after that. His relationship with Mai isn’t even that interesting, he have little to no good moments with kid Trunks and Vegeta, and now, he’s just relying on Goku and Vegeta to take care of the threat. The number reason why I love this arc is for once, there’s someone not-named Goku or Gohan that got the main role in an arc, and the “Goku and Vegeta show” criticism was thrown out the window.
I mean, you can justify it all you want and if you don’t see any issue and still enjoy this arc, then cool; everyone’s entitled to their own opinion after all. But, I’m pretty disappointed in Toyotaro’s version of this arc, which is a shame because I quite liked his take on the Champa arc. Vegeta is my favorite character in this series and he’s getting a lot of focus in the manga, but that didn’t save my disappointment for Black and Trunks for me.
There’s still a chance of Trunks doing something in the main battle. For example, Vegetto could’ve severely weaken Zamasu before defusing, and Trunks will be the only one that can fight him because Goku and Vegeta are exhausted due to fusion. However, even if Trunks will be the one to destroy Zamasu’s body, I don’t think it would be as symbolic and satisfying as the anime, especially since there’s no foreshadowing or build up for it.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
Trunks only did nothing for the last two or three chapters. Overall I would say he's still been more relevant than Goku in the manga, with Vegeta taking over the main spot.
If you guys look back at this thread nobody said Trunks was irrelevant until the start of the main fight. Before that wasn't even a complaint, then just because Trunks was watching Vegeta, somebody said he's done nothing in the whole manga and people started to repeat this complaint.
Which says a lot about the superficial analysis that's pushed forward. Basically, if the character didn't fought with the main villain and did OK, he's worthless. Let's ignore everything else! Because Dragon Ball is only main fight's and the rest is filler.
I'm not disputing that he could have done more, although personally I'm satisfied(so far). I just find it wrong to create a myth that Trunks has been worthless and propagate it.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
I think Trunks has been relevant, OLKv3 gave three examples that are true, plus the flashback of him against Dabra as an extra. But, at the same time, what you suggest is fine. Toyotaro could have made him fight future Zamasu at least once, that would have been nice. The perfect moment would have been right after Black defeated Vegeta, Goku could have fought Black while Trunks handled future Zamasu. What I feel is that the anime choosed bad ways to make Trunks relevant, stealing Goku the Mafuba like he did or the unexplained transformation, I'm so glad those weren't in the manga, but there could have been other ways to give him more part and power. Anyway, the arc is not finished, I think he will have the last hit. His characterization during the present in the manga, I have no objection, grief in the begining, a cool spar with Goku and a great cart race to chill out a bit. I didn't like him in the anime, as most of the characters, he doesn't look himself, just a generic insecure boy that shouldn't be for his age and never was during the Cell arc. I would have liked him meeting Gohan again, if it hadn't been written that badly, one of the worst episodes of zombie Gohan, he didn't even ask him why he was back.Khin wrote:I don’t really think emperior wants Trunks to pull something convtroversial just so he can do something cool, because Trunks doesn’t need any new transformation or the Genki-dama sword to do something noteworthy and awesome. Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
I think the manga can pull a more satisfying conclusion if Trunks vs Zamasu ends up actually being presented as the actual final battle of the manga's version of the arc, rather than the odd rush of the anime, which crammed it into the last few minutes of an episode that up to that point had been mostly focused on Vegeto.Khin wrote:There’s still a chance of Trunks doing something in the main battle. I'm really interested in what the changes he mentioned are gonna be.
Chapter should get out before tuesday so yeah.
For Trunks not getting the same spotlight he had in the anime. Well, he did start the arc. Got one chapter basically all to himself.
Traded the Mafuba for the Solar Flare. Got a b$¨l#$%¨powerup, though it didn't matter. All he lacks is development.
As for me I'm really looking forward to Merged Zamasu. And how the hell they are gonna counter after getting their asses kicked. And how Zen'ou is gonna blow everything, if the chapter ends in this month.

I love how Future Trunks is worthless in the manga, I mean he had his moments, but he still pretty much a weakling and that's how it should be in the anime too, because Black is a enemy worlds above him, so kudos to the manga for playing the real deal. Although they could have taken away that stupid "Maximum SSJ2" thing, but still better, I guess

His improved SS2 amounted to nothing,so it's not that big of a deal.I also love his placement in power...not God tier but not terribly weak.Noah wrote:I love how Future Trunks is worthless in the manga, I mean he had his moments, but he still pretty much a weakling and that's how it should be in the anime too, because Black is a enemy worlds above him, so kudos to the manga for playing the real deal. However,I still think he will get the final fight & he will finish off Zamasu. Can't wait to see how things will turn out in the arc's final chapters.

Yes it does as Goku prefered to use SSJG instead of one shoting Trunks as SSJ3 as he did in the anime. As for Vegeta, I think it was a different thing as he was surprised with Trunks, but my main point as that both he and Goku could have discovered that way before him.OLKv3 wrote: It doesn't surpass SSJ3, it just gets close to it. How do you not get this lol? Goku wanted to surprise Trunks with how strong he was, instead of having a hard fought even battle. Yes. Future Trunks arc should have LITTLE Trunks involvement. I really hope the manga keeps these Goku fights in and just as they are. It's the only time characters other than Goku and Vegeta actually did something.
