I agree this isn't his best work on the series, I still think his work on #26 was better, though I do feel like it was done better than his work on #79. The reason being that the latter of which has a better sense of timing and far more personality in it's movements than his cut from #79. Just compare how Basil smashes Buu's head with multiple kicks, to how 17 punches Goku into the clouds, their is simply far more going on.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:There hasn't been a major backlash on the episode itself, only towards those claiming it's some of the best we've seen on the show.JazzMazz wrote:We finally get a great Tate episode, something I wouldn't say we've gotten since #56, #47 if I'm being picky, and we use the opportunity to call his work stagnant even though he just delivered the best episode of the tournament arc thus far(even better than episode 80). I can agree with criticism, hell I have some myself, namely the fact that Goku's clothes look too baggy in some longshots, but I can let those slide if the episode itself was beautiful otherwise or if the scene itself was well executed, which it was exceedingly so.
I fail to see why there has been such a harch reception towards an episode that was actually fantastic.
I wonder what I can't see in this cut that everyone else has? It has impact, I'll give it that, but on the whole, it just felt flat and redundant for one of the best animators on this show. This is the last I'm saying on the subject, but I want to reiterate that I'm genuinely baffled at those who call this his best work on Super when he's contributed to cuts like these, and even his recent conservative work has more interesting angles, more flavor than the one from this latest episode.

Also I think people are forgetting about Tate's other noteable cut from the episode.

Thats disingenuous to say the least. Thats like saying Shimanuki can't produce anything worthwhile because his key animation is awful most of the time, or that Futoshi Highashide is nothing special because his works only great when it's corrected. It's an underhanded thing to say.cuartas wrote:All this time I learned that if a cut from tate is good art wise it's because is corrected, he can't make something worthwhile by himself and he doesn't even try because it's not his style, and time and blah blah blahMazingerdestro wrote: However, I remember back in episode 11 that his art was fine and he could draw on model (but still I don't know how heavily thst episode was corrected)
