That irks me. It's one episode short of the end of the arc, how much would it really drive the price of the sets up for them to make it 14 instead of 13? Probably not much, seeing as how 12 episode sets are often the exact same price as 13 episode sets.
FUNi's hands are tied tbf to them, Toei separated Super into seasons and season 1 they made 26 eps while the Freeza arc ends at 27 so either way FUNi would fall short, so splitting both into 13 makes the most sense.

Nice artwork. I wonder who was responsible for it? And I wonder how well the show sell on DVD and Blu-Ray.

The guy who did the Z BDs and Buu Kai didn't come back! :D This is way better than the Yamamuro one, I still hope FUNi use the singles artwork as reversible.

Not a big fan of the artwork tbh. Looks boring and way too "CGI-ish", especially compared to battle of gods movie blu-ray cover.
Image
One thing I'm happy with is how they're dividing up the episodes. Assuming part 2 also has 13 episodes and goes from 14 to 26, that will allow me to skip the retellings entirely and start buying super right when the U6 arc begins.

It depends on how much you want it. If you can wait then I'd go for the season sets but if you want them right away and can afford them then get the parts.
I can wait, especially since I prefer the movie.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

I didn't think they could do anything worse than Buu Kai's art but I guess I was wrong. Goku's face looks kind of off.

Hopefully we'll get something better for the season.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Not bad artwork, I like the more angular approach and the detail on Goku. Was very curious how Funi would do the Super covers so glad I can see now and start speculating on how the rest will look.

I would hold out on buying (who am I kidding, of course I couldn't...) but its coming out 5 days after my birthday, which means my wallet will recover from the Kai preorders and the temptation increases so I may not feel too bad when I'm charged.

I'm looking forward to the special features. I like the simplicity of cast interviews. No doubt Chris Sabat will talk about how Super was like getting his wish from Shenron for a new Dragon Ball series.

99% chance it's a bizarre stipulation of whatever licensing agreement they have for the franchise. Much like how they still aren't allowed to release One Piece episodes on Blu-ray despite the series going HD ages ago.
Well, even in Japan, One Piece took several years to finally get Blu-Rays after they went HD with it. Plus, they actually cropped a bunch of the episodes on discs given to rental places to curb piracy & increase sales of the regular DVDs, so who knows.

Might be minor but I'm glad FUNi put 001, instead of 01.

But yeah the art work is ballin'! It's still singular character sure but it's so much more better looking and the background aswell. Really happy with it!

For some reason I'm not digging the art as much as everyone else is. It's nice to see something new, but it doesn't feel "Dragon Ball" to me. I think the basic font on the spine is what's really bothering me, to be honest.

So...let me get this straight. The first Kai: The Final Chapters set comes out this month. The second one next month. The third one the month after that. And now the first Super set comes out the month after THAT?

...Should I just forward you my paycheck, FUNi? I feel like I should just forward you my paycheck and cut out the middle man here.

I was under the impression that the Kai Season Sets only exist to replace the cancelled Parts, cause Yamamoto. Unless I'm wrong, I see no reason for us to get a second release of Super, just buy this one.

Well, Funimation always re-releases their long-running series in "Collections", which comprise of two "part" sets. They just decided to call them "Seasons" with Kai.

They started doing collections with One Piece, then started doing the same with Kai, then Fairy Tail, & so on. They even screwed up the release of Season 1 of Kai by putting the Yamamoto score on the discs rather than the Kikuchi score initially before they corrected it. It's just a better way to market their shows because they're more affordable, take up less space, & offer more episodes per set than the parts for easier binging. I always by those. It's why Kai TFC's release are essentially season sets in their inceptions. They're just better for the average fan on a budget.

I'm dying to know what this big secret is regarding Super that ForneverWorld and BardockObama are talking about.
Unless Toei are moving with the times, and allowing them to stream it, then I can't see a Simuldub coming off.

Only other thing could be another network has licensed it, and plans to air it weekdays to catch up fast, and then air Simuldubs.

I know there is netflix in Japan, but I don't know how it works, or how popular it is.
Though I will say, I feel Toei underestimate just how big streaming is here in the West, the big money that is being spent on netflix originals and Amazon exclusives far surpass a lot of TV network budgets.

The "binge watch" has become the preferred way to watch for a lot of people, and with the Marvel shows, which have been immensely popular, it shows just how big streaming has become.
A lot of Sky produced shows here in the UK are uploaded in full, to be streamed, or if you wish, watch weekly.

Toei need to get with the times, and let Funi stream their shows if they want them current.
TV is too safe nowadays, especially for kids networks, as we have sadly discovered here in the UK.

Unless it is going to be streamed, I don't see a Simuldub happening, unless another network has taken it, and plans to air multiple episodes a week.
