17 As a Recurring Character
Do you guys see 17 sticking around with the rest of the cast after this ? considering he's become really strong and would be really useful and out of all the former villains he's the one who bonded with Goku the most he even admitted that he enjoyed chatting with him,and them fighting over who gets to fight the boss of the poachers was very cute too along with 18 noticing their similarities,i wonder if he will join permanently after this arc or he will just disappear like Future Trunks.
Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
If the next arc is a timeskip to the end of DBZ with Uub, then no probably not.
In a way this tournament seems like a "last hurrah" for the entire older DBZ cast (aside from Yamcha for some reason), before they move on and everyone gets too old. Trunks and Goten will probably be used when they're older teenagers with Uub and Pan.

I feel this tournament like a swan song for the oldies, and then we'll pass to the new generation cast
Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
I hope Gohan sticks. He has a good chance considering he's young, they're building him up as a fighter and he's pans father so he could have a mentor role.MrBlackFox wrote:This.precita wrote:If the next arc is a timeskip to the end of DBZ with Uub, then no probably not.

And for 17, I honestly don't know. He doesn't really seem to care about protecting the earth or stuff like that. We'll see I guess. I hope he sticks.
Disclaimer: I might get into a disagreement with you. Sometimes I might even get feisty about it. I'll never harbor negative feelings because of it though. I hope you feel the same way!Jinzoningen MULE wrote: Maybe I should start making it a point not to comment when I'm not sure of something. Too many people know what they're talking about around here.
I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
Gohan will probably still stick around, as well as Goku/Vegeta since Super can't seem to move away from the latter.
But I highly suspect the reason Trunks/Goten are being sidelined now is because they'll be major characters in the next arc, along with Uub and likely Pan. Maybe even Bra and Maron to if they decide to do anything with them.

Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
I would love to see Android 17 become a more central part of the cast. But with how he prefers to work in isolation and how committed he is to his job, I can't see it happening. Especially with how much they heavily foreshadowed Oob a few episodes ago, I feel that after this arc, we're gonna get a time-skip to beyond EOZ.

I've got my fingers crossed for this.

Can 17's kids be fighters after the timeskip? XD (You know, assuming there is a timeskip... THERE BETTER BE!)

I'm so curious about 17's family. Only if we get to see the them too.

I hope so.
it'll be nice if the show can stick to being something other than the Goku and Vegeta show.

Does it? I haven't noticed that at all.precita wrote:In a way this tournament seems like a "last hurrah" for the entire older DBZ cast (aside from Yamcha for some reason), before they move on and everyone gets too old. And given how it went the last time Toei tried making Goku/Pan/Uub/Trunks the main cast and that the current formula seems to be making money, I doubt radical change will be coming.
If they do make significant changes, I suspect it will be more akin to the changes in Ball that replaced Oolong, Puar, and Bulma by simply introducing a new character every few arcs, or like the changes in Z where the humans slipped into the background by being replaced with popular villains and their children. A more conservative approach over the course of hundreds of episodes where the old cast remains featured in the background and regularly gets lines.
Trying some kind of time skip where Pan, Uub, Goten and Trunks are the main characters sounds too much like GT.
Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
Well this is assuming they'll skip to the end of DBZ, which pretty much set up Uub, Pan and Trunks/Goten as new major characters. I don't know if Super will do the same thing, but they might.YajirobiTheGreat wrote:Does it? Re: 17 As a Recurring Character
To be fair, I don't think the problem there was the concept, it was the bungled execution. Goku was the spotlight stealing squad, Pan was a brat, Trunks really came off as a loser compared to his counterpart and Uub was...there, I guess? I think the safer way to handle it would be to just rotate characters in and out like they've always done. Not everyone is going to be important all the time, after all.YajirobiTheGreat wrote: Does it? I haven't noticed that at all.

I hope some of 17's children follow in his footsteps as fighters. The Earth needs more strong heroes and warriors beyond Goku's little band of misfits and reformed miscreants.
