Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
I understand that the last few episodes have been about re-introducing old characters back into the show, adding momentum to the plot, etc, etc. But I wonder why we haven't had an episode with Vegeta, since the arc began Vegeta hasn't landed a single punch. He didn't go to the exhibition matches, and he hasn't trained at all for the tournament. Based off the spoilers we won't really get an episode with him before the ToP starts, so now I'm questioning whether the opening is really scenes from the story, or just made up montages to get us hyped for the arc. Such as Goku not training by him self, or Vegeta not training in the Gravity room. Maybe I'm wrong about this, and we'll see him later in the next few episodes. But it does seem odd to me that they are leaving him out. There's more focus on Gohan and Goku than Vegeta at this point. I wonder why?
Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
Because someone at Shueisha decided I was having too much fun watching Gokû and Vegeta hanging out together being close rival-friends and they had to put a stop to that by sinking my battleship.
More realistically though:
-The new series producer and/or director like Gohan and 17 more than Vegeta.
-Toriyama feels Vegeta's outlived his usefulness and is retiring him in that "twisted" way (the whole doing the opposite of what people expect thing of his).
-Shueisha's decided it wants to emphasis the cast as a whole instead of relying too heavily on a smaller number of characters.
-They're saving Vegeta for the final recruitment episode some time in late May or early June.
-Ryo Horikawa has other stuff to do and/or health issues that have caused his role on Super to be shrunk.
Also want to point out that Super received a new director and producer most recently at episode 77 (coincidentally around the time Vegeta's spotlight and my interest in the show began to weaken).

Are you joking ? !!! he was the first one to be recruited like what do you want more than that ? lol
Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
In the manga he was the only one to get the main fights with Black which wouldn't have happened without Toriyama's OK so his lack of good screentime after the Champa arc has more to do with Toei (and maybe Shueisha), not Toriyama.Chuquita wrote:Toriyama feels Vegeta's outlived his usefulness and is retiring him in that "twisted" way.
If Black's manga version is anything to go by then we'll get plenty of him in the manga.

Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
You mean you don't count the episode about Bra as Vegeta's recruitment episode? I thought that made sense. Goku tries to recruit Vegeta, Vegeta says "I'd want to, but there's something stopping me", the others deal with that and overcome that, and Vegeta decides to fight.
I think it's the same reason as to why Piccolo doesn't get a recruitment episode. You don't need to explain why Vegeta is going to fight, because he'll always want to. He's just as Saiyan as Goku. And he hasn't been absent from a single arc.

I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

Vegeta is part of why I'm still buying the manga.sintzu wrote:In the manga he was the only one to get the main fights with Black which wouldn't have happened without Toriyama's OK so his lack of good screentime after the Champa arc has more to do with Toei (and maybe Shueisha), not Toriyama.Chuquita wrote:Toriyama feels Vegeta's outlived his usefulness and is retiring him in that "twisted" way.

It's Shueisha or Toei having preferences elsewhere then. Or maybe Horikawa's health? Horikawa used to or still does smoke as far as I know.

Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
I fear the manga will have a bad ratio of screen time like 45% Goku and 45 Vegeta and 10% for everyone else. While the anime will probably be closer to 35% Goku, 20% Gohan 20% Vegeta and 25% everyone else. I know Vegeta is super popular, but I doubt he's worth more than Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, 17, and the rest of the cast combined. If it comes down to the Goku and Vegeta show vs the Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan show with splashes of others. I'll pick the latter every single time.sintzu wrote:In the manga he was the only one to get the main fights with Black which wouldn't have happened without Toriyama's OK so his lack of good screentime after the Champa arc has more to do with Toei (and maybe Shueisha), not Toriyama.Chuquita wrote:Toriyama feels Vegeta's outlived his usefulness and is retiring him in that "twisted" way.

Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
Vegeta's more like the splash this arc so far, imo. He's barely around. This is the Gokû, Gohan, 17, and maybe Krillin arc at the moment.
Who knows with the manga version of this arc though; I'll find out in a few months or so.
My biggest issue with the manga currently is how dull the manga versions of Zamasu and Gokû Black are. They were so over the top in the anime and I enjoyed them as villains so much where in the manga they're not nearly as flashy as I'd like.

Don't tell me you actually believe this shit? the guy is still there best fighter right after gokuChuquita wrote:Because someone at Shueisha decided I was having too much fun watching Gokû and Vegeta hanging out together being close rival-friends and they had to put a stop to that by sinking my battleship.

Just because the show isn't blowing him off 24/7 doesn't mean he's getting replaced and the dude appeared twice right after goku in the opening and ending.
Quit overreacting is not even that serious.
Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
It depends on who you ask. Vegeta is not only my #1 DB character but also my #1 anime/manga character (tied with Sasuke from Naruto) so to me he's worth more than all of them.Beyond wrote:I know Vegeta is super popular, but I doubt he's worth more than Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo, 17, and the rest of the cast combined.

That's how he was in the anime Black arc compared to Goku and Trunks.Chuquita wrote:Vegeta's more like the splash this arc so far, imo.

A lot of what we've seen from this arc is filler so chances are the manga will jump right into the torunament when it starts.
This is an issue I have as well but the amount of screentime Vegeta got more than made up for it.

Bulla was Vegeta's recruitment episode
And Vegeta started off the Black arc by not doing anything. He didn't really get a big presence until they went to the future.

Exactly! Didn't do much until later on in the story.OLKv3 wrote:Bulla was Vegeta's recruitment episode

Vegeta got his recruitment episode already. Him not being relevant at the moment doesn't at all really mean he won't be super important later on.

Re: pacz360
I didn't say anything about strength debates. Didn't mean for it to come across like I was. I have nothing to argue with because I agree with you about Vegeta's strength/skill as a fighter.
If you mean the "usefulness" line, I meant more in the way of character development (if he's settling down to be a family man then that sounds like the end of his character development), not strength.
I wasn't completely negative (I'm trying not to be; not always succeeding, but trying. This Omni Tournament arc is not where I wanted Super to go next.) because I did suggest that maybe they're just saving him for last and his episode will be in late May or early June.
Re: sintzu
Even if he wasn't doing as much in the anime version of the Gokû Black arc as he is in the manga, Vegeta was at least present more than he is in this Omni Tournament arc so far where he goes missing several weeks at a time, or if he appears it's for one short scene.
I wish they'd show Vegeta training in that gravity room now that it's open to him again.
I do think once the tournament itself starts and we get back into probably-Toriyama-outline-proper stuff that he'll have some screentime again. How much, I don't know. Maybe he'll have a decent part to play and I'll come out of the end of this arc feeling relieved that my doubt in Vegeta's future was misplaced.

Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
Vegeta is too big of a character at this point to write out of the story so that's not going to happen at all. How much we'll see of him in the anime compared to the manga is anyone's guess though.Chuquita wrote:Maybe he'll have a decent part to play and I'll come out of the end of this arc feeling relieved that my doubt in Vegeta's future was misplaced.

Just because other characters getting more screentime doesn't mean he getting replaced or won't matter in the tournament
The dude just came off an arc where he defeated one of the main villian. He'll still play big albeit making goku look good as usual and the opening had him fight tumblr lady who's gonna be his rival in the arc.
Vegeta appeared with gohan and goku in the ending As if there the big 3
Vegeta ain't getting replaced there not doing a gt here.
Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
I'm grateful it's not GT. Vegeta was gone for nearly that entire series.
With this arc I just have to wait and see how it plays out. The opening makes me at least hope he'll do something.

I want this to be true. Vegeta's still on so much merchandise. Learning that in Z he was out of action for around a year during the Buu arc yet returned strong as ever to the plot is also what gives me hope that this is like that on a smaller scale and I only feel it more because Super airs once a week for me, but Z was 5 days a week on Toonami when I first saw it (meaning for me Vegeta was only gone from the Buu arc for a couple months).sintzu wrote:Vegeta is too big of a character at this point to write out of the story so that's not going to happen at all. The Vegeta drought will last for about another month I think. Then the prince will return and begin showing his stuff.
Re: Why haven't we got a Vegeta recruitment episode?
And during that time he did little to nothing during the last 2 main final fights (Freeza&Cell) and the story was just coming off Gohan defeating the last main villain so everything was against him at that point yet somehow he was the only Z fighter to be by Goku's side during the story's final battle. That part of the story is still my favorite in the entire franchise.Chuquita wrote:In Z he was out of action for around a year during the Buu arc yet returned strong as ever.
