Funimation and the OVAs?
Has there been any word on why Funimation never dubbed the OVAs or give them a DVD/Blueray release? Like Yo Son Goku and his friends return, Episode of Bardock and the Attack on the Super Saiyans?

Yeah, this is something I wonder about too. But I wouldn't worry about it too much - If history has shown us anything, if France gets something DB-related dubbed: I feel like it's only natural that Funimation will dub it too. If it helps, here's Chris Sabat going into detail about the undubbed OVAs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KTPoV-CZ5Y) and how he says they tried to dub Plan to Eradicate but couldn't due to: time issues and not being given permission to at the time. However, seven years have passed since 2010 and I think it's fair to say Raging Blast 2 no longer has enough hype to warrant keeping the OVA exclusive to the game. If anything, I'd say the OVA as well as the original Yamamoto score make the game rare together.GreatSaiyaJeff wrote:Has there been any word on why Funimation never dubbed the OVAs or give them a DVD/Blueray release? A forum that no longer exists anymore had Funimation answer a question about the DB material including the specials being dubbed and saying: STAY TUNED. They never said IT WOULD NEVER BE DUBBED, but to simply stay tuned. This French website (http://video.fnac.com/a9876124/Dragon-B ... wa-Blu-Ray) has a listing for a release of Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' that is including two OVAs (Plan to Eradicate AND Episode of Bardock). So, this confirms Plan to Eradicate is no longer a Raging Blast 2 exclusive thing. This only leaves one more question though: What about the 2008 special? Some fans have said that it can't be released because it was a Jump Festa special and not directly produced by Toei, but Viz Media was able to dub Naruto: Protect the Waterfall Village (which is a Jump Festa special). Chances are that was a rare case, however, since France is seemingly not dubbing the 2008 special. It should be noted the French release of the specials has been pushed back to June this year (which means it comes out next month) so perhaps they did this to add the 2008 special dubbed? Yeah, probably not.
Long story short: I'd say it's inevitable that Funimation will one day release the OVA's dubbed, especially since they finally released Kai and Super after all this time. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Funimation announced a holiday release for the specials in time for this year. However, if the 2008 special is not included on the French release: It's most likely not going to be included on Funimation's release and will never be dubbed. So, that leaves Plan to Eradicate and Episode of Bardock (always thought Plan to Eradicate wouldn't get dubbed due to being on RB2).
And honestly, in this DB renaissance where Kai and Super are now airing and being home-released - I think Funimation would be smart to take advantage of this and release the specials dubbed possibly alongside Resurrection F's Extended Edition. It just sucks that Resurrection F's kind-of prequel "Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return" might not receive a dub - especially since it was the first return of DB in years and holds a special nostalgic value for me since it came out when I was in early middle school.
Re: Funimation and the OVAs?
I think with Super being the main focus now we're not likely to see them any time soon. I read somewhere hear that unlike other DB products there are more than one right holder to these which is why they've taken this long or might not even happen.

That game didn't have hype when it was released.mecha3000 wrote:Seven years have passed since 2010 and I think it's fair to say Raging Blast 2 no longer has enough hype to warrant keeping the OVA exclusive to the game.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
