The NEW Harukanaru Goku Densetsu thread

Post by Timo » Thu Jun 07, 2007 9:22 am

I don't want to use the old thread. Necro- and doublepost alert. :P

I finished the game with Vegeta yesterday.
At the moment I'm stuck in the Piccolo stage with Cell/#17/Cell. Man, what a heavy thing.

I don't regret that I bought the Japanese version. I know all of the relevant things for the gameplay. It's not very deep and most of the actions, options as well as the Kanji are very self-explanatory. Anyways, I had no problems with the language "barrier". After 2 - 3 days I got it all.

I love the game. Sure, there are some bad points, such as the very few and stiff animations, repetetive missions and enemies. Also, sometimes the music is a little bit annoying although it's well composed.

Like I said, the gameplay actually isn't very deep and it's not a real trading card game. Also the adventure elements are very few. The game concentrates on the card battle system / the fights itself with a mix of a few board game and RPG elements. It's not a real RPG (or adventure), not a real trading card game and not a real board game. I would say the game took all good and simple elements from all of those genres and mixed it.

Okay, that was my impression after two months playing.^^

Does it play like DBZ 1, 2, and 3 for Famicom, and Legend of the Super Saiyan for Super Famicom?

Some people say, that HGD is a remake, but that's not true. It's similar to the old Famicom games but the gameplay is actually pretty different.

I heard this game plays very similar to the Dragon Ball game for the Wonderswan & that it maybe a spiritual sequel to it of some sorts.

I just got the game yesterday. I was hooked for the first couple of hours, but now I'm kinda tired of it. I think it has to due to the fact that you have to backtrack a lot & vary from the different characters (being Goku, Gohan, & Piccolo). It also gets more difficult the more as the game progresses. Right now I'm stuck at the Goku vs. Vegita episode (damn Oozaru Vegita).

I enjoy the board game interface, branching storypaths (lol Raditz enjoying at Princess Snake's castle)& turn based gameplay. It's really easy to pick up, but my only prob with it, is the fact that the attack animations could be a bit.....more varied in presentation. It's an enjoyable game if you like the turn based style of games like Super Saiya-jin no Densetsu for the SNES, but don't go playing too much or you might get a little frustrated. Overall, if you have a PSP, you're better off getting Shin Budoukai for $15. This is generally how I feel about it now, but my opinion might change as I get more into it.

My only question is if the game comes with the original japanese voices? If it does then I will get it ASAP since I am sucker for those kind of RPG games :P

Why does the front page say this game was just released when I've seen it sitting on the shelves of every store that carries video games that I've been to for the last month?
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

No, the US version only has the FUNI voices.

For those who have the Japanese version, is the music the same as in the US version?
It sounds a lot like the original Anime music. :)

Just found the cover for the PAL version, seems it will be called 'Goku Densetsu' over here.

I picked up the game today along with Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. I haven't played it yet, but I'll edit this post after I've played it to reflect my thoughts.

Edit: Well, I sat down and played it, and it's a pretty fun game. I can understand why some reviewers gave it low scores though, as it's not the kind of game some people would like. It's also the kind of game that I wouldn't be able to play a lot in one sitting, but in short bursts of one or two levels, although that's just me, it could be diffrent for you.

On a side note, this is yet another handheld Dragon Ball game that isn't up to date on the dub terms. The term HFIL is used, but when you fight Goz and Mez (Not sure if I got their names right) their shirts clearly say "HELL" on them. Also, for those of you who don't like the dub voices, the only voiced parts are when you attack your opponent or if your opponent attacks you, dialogue isn't voiced.

I wonder what voices / music that version will use. If it has the Japanese voices, I'll probably import it.

Yay for useless and confusing name changes! Seriously, why would they do that?

Japan: Harukanaru Goku Densetsu
North America: Harukanaru Densetsu
PAL: Goku Densetsu

Makes sense.

If you don't know what the game looks like, I've put a few gameplay videos on my site : http://www.gamick.fr/2007/08/goku-joue-aux-c.html

The european version of the game has the japanese voices, now we always get them (Super DBZ, DB Advanced Adventure... had them).

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, pherhaps in a podcast. Could someone tell me what Harukanaru Densetsu means in English?

It roughly means "Far Away Legend." But the full Japanese title is Haruka naru Gokuu Densetsu, which would mean something like "The Distant Legend of Gokuu."

Argh...I'm stuck at the level where Goku's supposed to fight the Ginyu Force and I always keep dying when I fight them again. The system keeps giving me weak cards and it's frustrating the hell outta me.

The other level available is the same as well where Vegeta fights off with Freeza.
The world is your's.

The most annoying thing about this game are the fights you aren't supposed to win, like Vegeta versus 2nd Form Freeza.

The mission i really hated was the one where you fight ozaru vegeta then normal vegeta 9 times in a row with gohan.

Anyway where does the game finish off? i'm guessing the end of cell saga but i'm not sure?

Harukanaru Goku Densetsu isnt as bad as i though it would be (I thought it would be another Dragonball Z Trading card game, Which sucked ass).

BTW are there any what ifs in this game?
