So what do you like about the funi dubs?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I'm not joking and I'm not trying to make a joke about how it being in English is the only good thing about the dub; I legitimately like to watch the dub because I can understand it without reading. I can just put DB on in the background and listen to it. That's why I hope that the script for Super's dub is accurate. That's all I really want.
Honestly I can get this feeling. As crappy as Zeta Gundam's dub was, it was at least accurate & I personally had a better experience with it over the JP VO (kill me now).
Zeta Gundam's dub was hugely inaccurate!
Well, I mostly saw it in Japanese (~35/50 eps) anyway, & I had subs on the whole time. It was at very high speeds so I wasn't paying much attention to what they were actually saying. The sounds were just more familiar.

One of my pet peeves is when censored versions either rearrange shots in such a way that they won't fit with the uncut footage, a combination of shot removal and changed dialogue which makes placing the dialogue into uncut footage nonsensical (an example being how the various AB Groupe dubs removed the written Namekian language scenes when Piccolo Jr and Kami talk to each other and make it seem like the two are talking in the same language as everyone else), scenes where the music placement is changed slightly due to cuts that cause either repetition or lost dub audio when placed in an uncut dub (several instances of this occur in the Harmony Gold dub of DB Movie 1 at least, also the Blue Water intro of DBGT), and of course wholesale music replacement in a censored dub (especially with the Saban dub of DBZ and BLT's dub of Movie 1). Thankfully Funi's pre-Kai in-house dubs, as bad as they were, at least fit in with the uncut footage. Not to mention how they are now available with the original Japanese soundtrack. Also how Funi's dub gave proper dub terms and names for things (Have fun figuring out which cities are attacked in the AB Groupe dubs of "History of Trunks")

I don't hate raspy voices, but some can come off as forced.

It's terrible when any aspect is forced.

Starting with Kai, Chris Sabat has been doing an awesome job with Vegeta.
I've always been very impressed with Sean Schemmel's Goku, despite his teething trouble when Funi first started out(Although Schemmel was probably the highlight of the Ginyu saga dub material); he sounds entirely different from Nozawa, but he very much gets the spirit of Goku dead-on nowadays.

Mike McFarland as Master Roshi was, in my opinion, the best part of the Funimation dub before Kai. In the original series in particular, he was capable of being the crazy, silly old pervert in the comical scenes, but when he turned serious(In the Piccolo Daimao arc, most notably), you could absolutely hear the years of wisdom, and the intense weight behind what he was saying.

After Funimation stepped firmly out of the Grand Tour, and decided to actually start dubbing the shows reasonably faithfully, their renditions of the openings and endings became really amazing...
Their version of the original series opening is a lot more jazzy than the Japanese version, but it's rather catchy, and has just the right feel to it.
The Vic Mignogna version of Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku is mind-blowing.
And the many English versions of Dragon Soul all kick ass, despite the occasionally bothersome autotune.

And to throw in something potentially a little controversial, I actually really like Bruce Faulconer's music. It absolutely doesn't fit with the Japanese version of the show, but it fits in great with the dub, despite the poor mixing, and the fact they never put in any silent moments.
Really though, I think the Faulconer music was at its peak in the Legacy Of Goku 2 and 3. The music was already rather video gamey, and giving it a proper GBA sound really brought it to the logical extreme of this sound, in my mind.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Stephanie Nadolny blows me away for some reason. Also, seeing the FUNi actors who have done other stuff just getting started is kind of cool.
