Yeah, Peter Cullen did most of the Toonami ads back in the good ol' days. It's almost nostalgic for me.

I get those shivers anytime I see/hear something very familiar. I love it.Acid_Reign wrote:Ah! I remember that! Gives me shivers just watching it... very cool. Are there any others?
First post edited to include longer version.

Yeah, Peter Cullen rocks. Such an epic voice. Hard to believe he's the voice of Eeyore on Winnie the Pooh, huh?Chuquita wrote:Peter Cullen's one of my favorite narrators.
Awesome promo; I remember it well. I had already bought all of FUNi's VHS's for that saga by the time those episodes aired on Toonami, but that promo still had me all excited.
Oh, why can't FUNimation put these promos on their DVDs?! Surely it wouldn't take that much time, effort, or money to get them from Cartoon Network!

Peter Cullen? I had absolutely no freakin clue, and I absolutely love those Promos!

Next quest: Buy the Super: Broly and Super Hero Blurays, also Daima whenever that releases in the states. Also the Super Manga!

Oh my head...he was EEYORE!?
Now that I recall the voice, it easily could have been him.
That's, so cool.
If Funi made a compilation of all the old Toonami dbz ads from way back and stuck them on as extras; that would be an easy way to get me to buy their dvds.
The long version of that commercial is...amazing. Absolutely amazing. Those old promos still take my breath away. X3
On hiatus.

Cartoon Network's always had excellent advertising. I don't know the current state of Toonami commercials (or many commercials at all for that matter—God bless TiVo) since I lost interest once their newer shows started, and I'm pretty much past the target age group by now anyway, but their [adult swim] ads have always been funny and unique (with the exception of the ATHF Boston police scare... ay caramba).
But seeing these again makes me wonder who did the directing/editing for them; they must be geniuses. Is there any way to find out, without credits?

Man, I absolutely love those promos, they make me wanna drag up my old, old, old VHS tapings at my parents' house to see if I happened to tape it. The Narrator is friggin' awesome giving us the sneak peek of the DBZ world after Vegeta's sacrifice, both trailers put such awesome emphasis on the bleak situation Earth is in with Buu and Babidi. And of all things in the trailer, the one thing I love more than "Buu is nothing, etc." is the shot of Gohan swinging the Z sword. Kinda helps thing he's always been my favorite character, but what can I say, he looks so damn awesome!

Speaking of Gohan, is the season 6 trailer where Kaioshin places emphasis on finding him and how he absolutely mustn't die available? ^^;

Have you checked Toonami Digital Arsenal? Every DBZ promo ever made for American DBZ (as well as DB and DBGT) is archived there.Conan the SSJ wrote:Speaking of Gohan, is the season 6 trailer where Kaioshin places emphasis on finding him and how he absolutely mustn't die available? ^^;

Though I could be wrong, I think the promo you're looking for is indexed as Long Season 6 Promo.
Aired in the UK? Hmm . . .chibi_goten wrote:This ad got showed in the UK, but can any of you guys remember the ad which was on CNX set during the Buu saga and it had the Foo Fighters song, ''All my life''. That was a fucking awesome advert, but I can't find it anywhere.

Yep, he's been Disney's official voice of Eeyore since 1988, and in my opinion, he's the best voice actor the character's ever had. It is a little wierd to imagine the miserable donkey being voiced by the same actor who does Optimus Prime, but it just goes to show how good of a range the man has.Chuquita wrote:Oh my head...he was EEYORE!?MagicBox wrote:Peter Cullen rocks. Back to that promo, though, the thing that always got me the most is the music. I know it's a pretty repetitive tune, but that doesn't take any of the suspence out of it. I especially love it when Trunks and Goten begin to power up.
The "It's always darkest just before dawn" line deserves a shout-out as well. Great dialogue to end the trailer with.

I certainly remember this trailer giving me the chance to tape all the Ocean version episodes. Considering the CN airings (outside redubbing in eps 1-4 slightly) were even more "uncut" (including the next-episode previews and extra moments of the endings of episodes cut on the Pioneer releases) than the DVDs, I hold these tapes dear. That trailer had me so excited, the concept I could see the Ocean version of DBZ when it hadn't fully rerun in like 2 or so years it seemed like. Hard to believe that was well over 5 years ago.Li'l Lemmy wrote:Toonami Digital Arsenal: DragonBall Z
