Super Animation Catalogue 2.0
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 90
I wanna say the new writer won't salvage anything but fuck it, if Wonder Woman could end up worthwhile, Super might just surprise me too.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

An episode with Karasawa equals an abismally amazing episode for me, so happy he's finally back! I loved his work on 72 and 66, maybe one of his best contributions on art style ever, atleast for me!
Also, did I hear Shida & Tate combination? We're in for some incredibly good action coming soon then lol
Episode 98 seems very promising, I always loved Shimanuki's work, even if he's stiff on some of his animation, he always delivers beauties with his iconic drawing style.

I doubt he'll do anything special. He'll only be there for an episode, and it seems like any problems you have with the series will always be present. I like the unexpected positivity from you though.ekrolo2 wrote:I wanna say the new writer won't salvage anything but fuck it, if Wonder Woman could end up worthwhile, Super might just surprise me too.

Yeah, this ain't Hollywood. A new writer isn't going to magically change everything. He's going to follow the direction of the SDs and series composer, mainly SDs and Toriyama's outline, but SDs are the highest authority. That's how it works. Writers don't have much creative control.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 90
I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.
He did, however, say that we should really raise our expectations for when the tournament begins. He's gotten really good vibes from Nagamine, and has actually been learning a lot from Shida lately - though again, he wouldn't discuss details.
Some pretty reassuring words, especially after his last comment.

Reading this will really make me have high expectations which is bad in a way if it doesnt deliver. I hope he isnt pulling our leg with that comment.Ajay wrote:I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.

Again it is just words with no source, don't adjust your expectations I am certainly not, if the NEPs blows our minds then maybe but for now keep things in check.SansrivaaL wrote:Reading this will really make me have high expectations which is bad in a way if it doesnt deliver. Oooo, interesting! I already got good vibes when the staff list came out, so this is another nice thing to hear! Him learning from Shida is awesome to hear.Ajay wrote:I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.

My problem with it is this arc has really set the bar up with the animations we got, it has been good to great at best and hearing that comment from someone in Super only raises my expectations moreBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Again it is just words with no source, don't adjust your expectations I am certainly not, if the NEPs blows our minds then maybe but for now keep things in check.SansrivaaL wrote:Reading this will really make me have high expectations which is bad in a way if it doesnt deliver. This is nice to hear, but I have to wonder how this is going to work, unless Nagamine has roped in a handful of new action specialists and had them working on the series ahead of schedule while everyone up to this point has done the heavy lifting.Ajay wrote:I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.

Shida is only storyboarding for now though, hope he animates too. This arc could've been great but the pacing so far has ruined it, so if they could give us some strong animation for the climax from the likes of Shida, Miuma, Otsuka, etc I'd be more than satisfied.
Feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

When Shida tweeted about working on Super it was after the storyboard for 95 was done most likely, so he's probably working on animation.Shreyas_Singh wrote:Shida is only storyboarding for now though, hope he animates too. I have to wonder if Nagamine will also storyboard and direct an episode with those supposedly action animators. It will be nice, that's for sure.JulieYBM wrote:This is nice to hear, but I have to wonder how this is going to work, unless Nagamine has roped in a handful of new action specialists and had them working on the series ahead of schedule while everyone up to this point has done the heavy lifting.Ajay wrote:I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.

At the very least I feel like we're due for an episode from Ryōta Nakamura. I'm somewhat surprised that 97 isn't from him honestly, but I guess there might be much more important episodes coming soon after that.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:

Do you think they will be able to bring some of the Tiger Mask W staff?

I think it's likely that they at the very least grab some of the regular episode to episode animators, but beyond that who knows. I've got my fingers cross that some of the really skilled animators will at least pop in from time to time like Shida and Otsuka and I'm really hoping that Yōichi Ōnishi will return as a supervisor again, I love his character art so much and I'd love to see what he'd do on Super now that he'd probably end up with more time than when he was on the series last.emperior wrote:Do you think they will be able to bring some of the Tiger Mask W staff?
A Director/Storyboarder or two from Tiger Mask would be nice too.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 90
Earlier today I played Dragon Ball Z Sparking Meteor/Budokai Tenkaichi 3 again for the first time in a while, and I noticed that many, if not all, of the character portraits in the character select screen look like Shimanuki's work. Specifically, they look similar to his old and current style, rather than his style in the Dragon Ball Z Sagas opening and early Dragon Ball Super, which is odd considering Sparking Meteor was released in 2007, after Dragon Ball Z Sagas.

These are just a couple of examples that I could quickly find in image form. Here is a Youtube video with all the character portraits in them.

Sadly it is stretched from 4:3 to 16:9, but I couldn't find one in 4:3 that was sharp enough to accurately judge the art style.

A detailed storyboard can be a treasure for an animator with limited time (basically telling him what to do instead of having him using his "imagination"/poor choice of word...I know). Considering how good Vegeta's rage in episode 7 looked (it was made by Kitano) and the fact that Shida is skilled and can add extra advices regarding shading, movement, distances, or in general how the characters should look and react (I think his storyboards were reported to be quite detailed), it would be a great experience for everyone working with him and the episode will probably look decent, if not good.
What's important is that we see that the last week's negativity has somehow disappeared. I don't know how much of this is damage control from someone reading Tu's messages and telling him how to react but if this is his real reaction, it might imply that the guy finally has some hope for the tournament. Yes positive thinking is the key when the production is a mess
That would be amazing.emperior wrote:Do you think they will be able to bring some of the Tiger Mask W staff?
Tiger mask is by far one of the safest and most good looking series (it's a shame that not many people cared for it, since both the animation and the writing are good), Toei produced lately. Still I am pretty sure that by next year Toei will again get new projects....

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 90
Tiger Mask W already aired 34 of 39 episodes and it has a better schedule than DBS.
Judging by the official titles, the Tournament won't start before 2 July. Even though most Tiger Mask W staff may not become regulars for DBS, I'm expecting some help from them until they get switched for Toei next project. Everything seems to be going according to plan.
As a Director it's important to transmit confidence and optimism to your team. That's all I needed to know.
Unfortunately I can't get more hyped for the Tournament than I already am.
I just hope Nagamine and Nakamura keep being DB directors for a long time. They are incredible!

That line makes me feel Nagamine is not only a Pro but also a cool guy.Ajay wrote:I asked Tu about the overall state of Super's production, but predictably, he wasn't able to say much due to his obligation keep certain aspects confidential.
