Arrival of Jinzoningen

Post by VegettoEX » Sat May 22, 2004 11:25 am

Where was it?

The DVD (first "Androids" disc, first recap for first episode) says "On an island nine kilos southeast of Metro South," but Julian's telling me, "southWEST of the Southern Capital." Help a brutha' out. Maybe I'll send you this trailer when I'm done with it.

Well, if I remember correctly, it was 'on an island nine miles southwest of south city.' I think. Not positive, but that's what's coming to mind.

I used the manga to double check after I -- wait, do you want me to reveal what you're working on? In any case, it definitely said "nansei." If it was southeast, it would have been "nantou."

I'm right, as always. 8)

EDIT: Also, "Metro South," "Southern Metropolis," "South City," and "Southern Capital" are all different ways of translating "Minami no Miyako." Use whichever one you're most comfortable with.

FUNimation always converts the metric units into English ones, for some odd reason -- the only thing is, they don't convert the values, which makes things not add up all that well. It's 9 kilometers, or about 5.5 miles. :?

It's west all right. Even the french and english manga say the 12th of may at 10 am, on the island located 9 km south-west of the Southern Capital.

[Picky Bastard Mode]You mean "Imperial units", not "English ones". The English use both.[/Picky Bastard Mode]

And dose the DVD really say "nine kilos"? Because that's odd use of English. Although maybe possibly sort of correct, "kilos" is usually shorthand for "kilograms", not "kilometres". Especially since the "kilo" in the latter word is pronounced differently.

In Japanese, "kiro" (anglicized as "kilo") is shorthand for "kilometer" rather than "kilogram." Confusing, yes, but the context shows which units Trunks is talking about. :P

True. Nine kilograms south would imply that someone had put on a bit of weight, I suppose. And that's hardly worth time travelling over.
