Sagas - "Wow, they still make games this terrible?"
I just wanted to share my disgust and...well, laughter over this game. It's so bad it's...well, bad.

I love there excuse for cut scenes, a bunch of in game noises with clips from the show, it sort of seemed like a bad AMV. There were times when the game was really cool and unique such as guarding Dende or fending off Frieza but the total of glitches and repetitive combos totally outweighed what the game had going for it.

That game is horrible. Words do little justice to my disgust.
I got it for a Christmas present, so there was no way I could exchange it or even ignore it since my family was eager for me to play it. I coerced a friend to play it with me, which made it slightly tolerable. The first time we fought Android 17 and he glitched himself out of the game. My friend and I spent 10 minutes flying around wondering if he'd glitch himself back so we could finish the damn level...

Bleh. Sagas has errors that I would make in a game. Assuming I was working on it alone. But... I'd definitely try to fix them before releasing it... I mean... WTF? The glitch-off-the-map thing? Yeah, I had that happen in a game I made last year (feels like longer... I guess... time... flies...). So... I don't think I'm releasing said ame unless that's fixed.
Enemies attacking dead people? Same as the afore mentioned unreleased game... same problem.
Now, this was after I had two semesters of Java and did some research on Javascript. So no fancy graphics and 3d models and cool explosions and cutscenes. And my game had the exact same glitches as Sagas, though decidedly less abundant.
Now, I'm not expecting that sagas had a particularly unique 3d graphics / physics setup on thewole, though a few things might have been added here and there to accommodate (I can never remember which letters to doube in that word...) the Z-ness, but really... did they release a game with glitches that are more dominant than equivalent glitches in a game made by a kid just getting out of highschool? Did they not testplay this game?

If my graphics didn't suck, I'd consider trying to make the same game minus the glitches. Wait... that means I need the BGM (So repetative and overbearing, but so "Get the HFIL out of my head!!!")
Oh, nice plot ideas for a little while... now... if only that was enogh...
Actually, this makes me realize just how lazy I am when it comes to complex projects. And how therefore the sagas team must be lazier. Which... well... ask my shortfiction teacher why that's scary.
Now that I think of it... there wasn't a scene in the anime where someone was dead but still hovering in the ir, was there? As odd as it is, it could serve for some intense dramatic effect if used correctly (For some reason the scene where they found Jean in X3 comes to mind. And... .hack//sign?).
I don't like IE7. I'll blame all typoes on it.

I'm amazed anyone got past Raditz. I couldn't for the life of me ever beat him because of how poorly the game handled and how damn insane the difficulty was because of it.
I honestly didn't think there'd be a DBZ game that was worse than Taiketsu or Ultimate Battle 22. The real question is. Which of those two is worse than the other?

Well, I don't know about Taiketsu, but the original The Legacy of Goku game is definately worse than Ultimate Battle 22 in my opinion.Tsukento wrote:I honestly didn't think there'd be a DBZ game that was worse than Taiketsu or Ultimate Battle 22. As for Sagas, never made it to Australia, oh well. XD
I felt LoG was more...broken than anything else considering it seemed like it was the company's first game or something. It was sorta good but had more problems to it to make it so. Ultimate Battle 22 was made by a company that has a history of prior games. It had no excuse to be so awful.SaiyamanMS wrote:Well, I don't know about Taiketsu, but the original The Legacy of Goku game is definately worse than Ultimate Battle 22 in my opinion.

Raditz was reasonably simple strategy-wise. Though I guess I'm used to fighting him in CoOp. Though he's glitched himself away from time to time, which had us like, "Well, he's gone.So... why can't we just get Gohan out of the ship?"
What's annoying is that you die, you don't just start the bossfight over... you start the whole level over. Pretty freaking annoying on the Nappa stage (Yeah, I suck at not getting killed by the "mega" saibamen. Too much noise to figure out when they're attacking...).
And ... I haven't even bothered playing anything after Nappa. Though I guess I should for sake of getting past #17 (And hey, Future Gohan!).
Why does thinking about this game's wasted potential always make me think of ideas that I'll nver use? -.-
And some time in the past 48 hours (I seriously lose track of days anymore... T.T) I had a dream that had something to do with UB22 that involved some... sepcial... training mode. Which was annoying because you had this symmetrical stage with ramps in it and a hole in the middle that was only big enough for one character to fit through, so if you stand under the ramp and fight, your opponent gets you in a position where they're under the opening, thus you're screwed. And... umm... yeah.
Though I think UB22 was more creative and more playable than Sagas all around. Though when we get to how the actual gameplay worked... I think they may have just copied some random fighting game stuff they had lying around...

It wasn't really awful in 1995, ya' know, when the game was made and intended to be released.Tsukento wrote:Ultimate Battle 22 was made by a company that has a history of prior games. It had no excuse to be so awful.

Obviously by today's standards it sucks. But Ultimate Battle 22, for its time, was a pretty good game. While lacking a story mode obviously, the mechanics in fighting were much better than what Final Bout would later deliver. The finishing moves the fighters could pull off were fantastic, on par to Hyper Dimension even. Ginyu's body switch, Gotenks going level 3 to beat the tar out of his opponent, Tien's multiform technique, Kid Goku going Oozaru, Dabra's awesome spear/sword attacks, etc., etc. It's a shame Atari cut out the brief intro exchanges between opponents, as they kept the Japanese voices as it was, cutting out those brief cut-scenes kinda hurt the American release when it was already pulverized by other 2003 competition. Also, while kinda funky looking, it was an innovative thing to combine 2D hand-drawn sprites with the entirely 3D backgrounds; which probably didn't look too bad at the time considering this was when the Ps1 was in its infancy.
Personally, I may very well like the game more than Final Bout.
