Yeah, it's an exaggeration. Most of "the talk" I've been seeing is about the Gods fighting scene or character interactions.
Yeah I see nothing but praise for this episode. At one site I go to called naruto forums 27 people gave it 10/10s.

The second half certainly had some jank to it.

It's nothing too terrible, but I think it's certainly worth noting.

I'm surprised that floral guy from universe 2 isn't there. He looked way off.

Edit: On a lighter note, Next week looks flipping amazing. Speaking of which, I was looking at the dub episode that came out tonight and damn
If this episode is what Super Looks like at it's worst these days, then we've come a long way. This episode was pretty polished for the most part.

Despite all the wonk I noticed.

Looks like TAP's animators mistakenly drew Golden Freeza. You can tell on his arms, shoulders and legs that the animation supervisors only had enough time to correct his head.

Do you guys think that the energy clashes would look better if toei used more lens flare effect like this? (I'm not a JJ Abrams fan)

Some thoughts on Itai in this episode.
First off if feels like he's pretty much fixed the issue I had with his ear placement in previous episodes, so I'm happy about that!

Sometimes his art is really nice;

But some times it feels like he has issues with facial feature size, placement and perspective;

Gohan's nose looks pretty Kinoshita here

Also as a side note he draws Freeza's shoulders weird.

All in all I think he's getting better, probably a few more episodes from him and I think he'll be pretty great. It's not that I think he's bad right now or anything, I just think his art has some issues that can hold it back.

#96

The episode starts with a solid fight scene and a decently polished, though slightly janky first half.

The second, is where everything pretty much falls apart, it extremely janky and honestly not that good.

Overall, the episode is a mixed bag, the first half is solid while the second is pretty janky.

This episode had a lot of great shots, I wonder why DBS twitter uploaded the bad ones.
You know, sometimes i think that Toei knows that we're "watching them" so they upload the bad ones to make us be in despair to then surprise us with good stuff.

That's my theory.

Edit:

That wonky Goku from the NEP is Kitano, right?
I really miss ma boy, Black :(

Not gonna lie, the first scene with the God's fighting was pretty badass. They needed a fighting scene in the episode and it looked great.

The art continues to be solid and the tournament will begin next week. Nothing else looked bad or good. Just a "filler" second half that allowed them to avoid starting the battles this week.

Nothing in the NEP looked amazing, pretty average looped animations with punches. The explosions near Jiren looked super fake, like something someone would add for a YouTube video. I don't know how this opening episode will go but I sure wish that the high quality from the last episodes won't affect the tournament.

Limiting their flying abilities, makes the storyboarders work way harder. Keeping the battles exciting without having the characters flying could be hard and it shouldn't be a limitation inside the arena

It's not simply just looped frames, there is a lot of animation going on in that NEP, and the art is solid through out that action. Even the shots that are close ups on hands shooting blasts have animation on the hands instead of being static.
You are totally right on the explosions, they look pretty bad, hopefully they will look better in the final episode. They are going way too fast and aren't blended well with the background.

Yeah, the NEP, though definitely conservative at points, has a lot of really interesting looking effects and looped animation. In other words it looks decently promising and a good start to the tournament.

I can imagine some of the cheapest cgi effects been replaced in the blurays (still the explosions reminded me of FBurning Eutanasio Fuenteardiente). My main problem with the action was that again in the NEP the characters are drawn too small, like they squeeze them to fit in the screen (something that the Shida episode had fixed). Sure hope Toei is pulling their usual tricks and the NEP shows the worse parts of the episode.

The art was good, but it could be better on this episode. I wonder if they'll keep the same level now that the Tournament Of Power will finally begins and we'll see 80 people beating themselves at the same time lol

Yes, not every character would have been designed by Toyotaro or Toriyama..
It's safe to assume the ones which we got confirmation were the only ones designed by both or either of them..
Rest can be given to toie until said otherwise..

Did anyone check the amazing Shida cut (Actually the whole battle was crazy) in Tiger mask w with Tiger Mask W vs The third?
Image
I don't think this show ever had a low point in terms of animation. 2 more episodes and it's done (probably the production might have done already working on it) so if Toei wants to provide super with some fresh animators, now it's time

The dream is to have some of the best Tiger Mask W animators to join Super.

We have to wait for Toei's future project announcements. The studio never has a "slow year" and usually adapts at least 2-3 new shows every year.

Also there is Digimon appli monsters. Is this show Ending? I know it's heavy on the CG but it has been running for long

Not having breaks in July to help the schedule more sucks, but they know what they are doing.

The awesome GoDs fight scene in this episode was unnecessary and they still decided to give it to us.
I have no problems with the explosions in the NEP.

Shida popping up in Tiger Mask W caught me off guard. That show will go out with a bang. Impressive.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

Apparently Koudai Watanabe is going to be there for the final episode. As for some staff joining Super from Tiger Mask W, I think thats more a hope than something that is actually going to happen. Though I do think we will probably get one or two animators, I feel like a lot of animators will be going towards the new One Piece special.
