Man how the Black arc ended was great, they could have just made Zen-Oh clean everything up nicely but thankfully that wasn't the case! The heroes finally met a match where the only solution was erasing the entire universe! Also makes Zen-Oh scary going into this arc knowing what he's capable of and how unhinged he can be.

If zeno had a little bit more mature design he would be labelled as the ultimate evil..it's only his child like appearance Which let's him get off the hook so easy

Thats exactly my point though. There is duality involved. Most things are split or lean slightly one way or the other. It isnt just like....oh all the fans want this.HeroR wrote:And just as many people loved it because it finally subverts the death is cheap narrative of Dragon Ball. There is reason why there is a term called 'vocal minority'. I was talking about the Spirit Sword. How do we know that the people who loved it arent the 'vocal miniotiy?" This fandom is very vocal regardless.HeroR wrote:And just as many people loved it because it finally subverts the death is cheap narrative of Dragon Ball. Right...I dont see where we disagree. It isnt pandering to a fanbase if the fanbase doesnt agree. Its more like using ideas that have floated around.

The Spirit Sword wasn't the ending of the arc. It was the climax. And from my experience, people love the Spirit Sword simply because it was awesome and loved the theme behind. While they will admit it's an asspull.Dbzfan94 wrote:

You only need to see Super's ratings and the ratings it gets on the streaming sites to get an idea what the average viewer thinks. I mean, if you read only the posts here Resurrection 'F' universally sucked and Battle of Gods is the best Dragon Ball Z movie. Yet on average Resurrection 'F' scored the same or higher than Battle of Gods and Battle of Gods was called boring which is why Resurrection 'F' is more action focus.

Super panders to an extent. Like Broly is extremely popular, while he's hated for that reason by a loud part of the fan base.GodKaio-Ken wrote:HeroR wrote:That's true of everything.GodKaio-Ken wrote:

Yeah I feel like we need receipts on both sides for these claims.HeroR wrote:The fan reaction here doesn't represent the larger fanbase. I mean yes certain parts of the fanbase have wanted certain things but I would actually say most of these things have received more negative than positive attention. Future Trunks coming back and an "evil goku" being the two glaring exceptions.MisteryOne wrote: Pretty sure ROF is 100% Toriyama trough. And the only real differences between manga and anime in the Champa arc is the final battle, so we could consider it as well. But since then yeah, both FT and the actual arc seem suggestions based on what fans want transformed into an outline by Toriyama and stories by Toyotaro and Toei.

You have no complaints about Zeno bailing the good guys out? Not to mention where Trunks and Mai went to an unknown timeline where problems could persist. It would be awkward living in the same planet as another replica of Trunks & Mai with the same looks and age.HeroR wrote:And just as many people loved it because it finally subverts the death is cheap narrative of Dragon Ball. The ending was so open ended that it leads to believe that it won't be the last we see of Future Trunks.

I agree. I thought that the arc as a whole had some faults (Future Trunks's unexplained powerup, neutered action, anything involving the cringey Mai/Young Trunks relationship) but I thought the godly unexplainable stuff was really cool. Rose Goku ripping open reality with his ki scythe and not entirely understanding why it did that is one of my favorite Super moments.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Man how the Black arc ended was great, they could have just made Zen-Oh clean everything up nicely but thankfully that wasn't the case! Bailing them out? He erased the entire timeline they were fighting for, right after the show has been activly trying to give the inhabitants of said timeline actual personality and reason for us to care. Whether the writers succeeded or not, they did make it so that the ending was far from just the heroes being 'bailed out' by a higher being.omaro34 wrote: You have no complaints about Zeno bailing the good guys out?

Who was the director of the Zamasu arc? And is he still the director of this arc now? Because the show felt sooo different during the Zamasu arc then it does ever since it ended. The dark tone, the setting, the MUSIC! Sumitomo was definitely at his best in that arc. So i wonder, did they get a new director? Or is it still the same director?
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
We got a new director when the Universal Survival arc began; his name's Tatsuya Nagamine.GodVegetto91 wrote:Who was the director of the Zamasu arc? And is he still the director of this arc now? Morio Hatano was the Zamasu arc director.
On hiatus.

Saying Zeno bailled them out is like saying Future 17 bailled out Future Vegeta by killing him since he would have died by either Future Majin buu or Future Zamasu.omaro34 wrote:You have no complaints about Zeno bailing the good guys out? Everything they were fighting for was gone,Zamasu won,you could say Zeno was the one who finished Zamasu for good but what Zeno did is far worse than anything Zamasu could have done.As for Mai and Trunks thats the point, they went to another timeline to at the least protect there what could they not in their own timeline.
This arc showed that Zeno is not a solution but a self destruct bomb,a universal nuke.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Yeah, I'd say the end of the FT arc was extremely necessary for the following arc to treat Zen'oh as the dangerous existence he is. Had we jumped, say, from the end of Champa tournament straight to this arc, things wouldn't have the same weight.Whatever wrote: This arc showed that Zeno is not a solution but a self destruct bomb,a universal nuke.
Not to mention it was unexpected and original for Dragon Ball, which are pluses in my book.

I'm loving everything Nagamine is doing for the show so far. I hope they stay for a very long timeChuquita wrote:We got a new director when the Universal Survival arc began; his name's Tatsuya Nagamine.GodVegetto91 wrote:Who was the director of the Zamasu arc? Spread positive vibes~ ^.^

While I like many of the things Hatano did in the FT arc (such as the more serious and dark tone it had) I'm absolutely loving Nagamine's work so far. Not only has he been able to tremendously improve the schedule, he also added a new filter and the linework which definitely make the show look better. I hope he will stay until the very end of Super.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Don't forget things like an arc centric OP! (Which is kick ass btw!) Just the general feel from like the eye catches etc felt like we were watching a completely different show! And then turning a seemingly on paper boring mini arc into something pretty exciting, and then controlling spoilers (I'm sure the new directors are responsible for that) sure somethings still went through the cracks but for the most part it seems a conscious decision to quash them. Finally the arc being consistent in terms of look. Overall hugely satisfied with the direction of this arc.emperior wrote:While I like many of the things Hatano did in the FT arc (such as the more serious and dark tone it had) I'm absolutely loving Nagamine's work so far.
