Questions about Potara

Is there a chance fusing with the potara earrings can result in a being that is weaker than one, or even both of the fusees?

Could this be why Elder Kai is so weak?

If they're physically incompatible due to such drastically conflicting physiologies then I don't see why the fusion would acquire all too much of an increase, if not deteriorate. Their abilities seem to be retained, though.

I'm sure it's possible, but rare. The entire purpose behind a fusion is to combine two people with a certain aptitude in order to create a being with skills even greater than either could've been individually.

I imagine all current & relevant physical traits and ailments are factored in by the potara, thus if a young man with substantial power were to fuse with a quadriplegic old man with practically no power then we'd probably get a middle aged paraplegic man with slightly more power in the upper body but a complete lack of power in the lower half.

Elder Kai exists so the answer is sort of implied. A very young god fused with an old witch and became old. Granted he gained incredible powers so who knows.
