Begin reporting bootleggers on EBAY?
Hi all,
I understand that there are way too many bootleg ebay auctions for them all to stop, but I think that we - the DaizEx community - should attempt to let eBay know of auctions such as the infamousand blue-and-yellow boxes. THE WAR AGAINST THE BOOTLEGGERS BEGINS AS SOON AS I GET FOLLOWERS =_0

Let me put it this way: I don't fanedit, but I download many of them. On the Original Trilogy boards (yes I'm a star wars fan, yes you can laugh), whenever there's a project being sold on eBay, someone lets the members know and they get that member banned by alerting eBay and other auction sites. I was suggesting that we do something like that; every time we see a bootleg on ebay we report the guy and he gets banned; simple as that.SatoSky wrote:This is kind of pointless. I understand what you're trying to do, though. Truth is someone will eventually get burned and buy bootlegs without even knowing what it is.

I'm with you!
The shit that happens on eBay must end now.
You see, I got ripped off on eBay once...
*Flashback*
...it was apparently a 'BRAND NEW UNOPENED MINT' History Of Trunks DVD, that- when I got it- came in a cheap plastic case, had a printed-out front cover (done with a shitty ink-jet), had a double-sided DVD with 'History Of Trunks' written on one side with black permanent marker, and with the file on the DVD being downloaded from a Dragonball episode download site.
And it cost £10.
OWNED.
*Jumps off a cliff*
N OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*Splat*

I too have been burned by bootleggers. I'm sick of seeing them all on eBay. I just feel sorry for all the poor saps who end up buying them, without even knowing that they're bootlegs.
Mike, I realise that discussion of bootlegs isn't allowed on the site, but how about letting us put together a 'How to avoid bootlegs FAQ'? We could include pictures of known bootleg sets.

Great idea Kula! I hope that Mike's reading this thread.Kula wrote:I too have been burned by bootleggers. I'm sick of seeing them all on eBay. I just feel sorry for all the poor saps who end up buying them, without even knowing that they're bootlegs.

Re: Begin reporting bootleggers on EBAY?
Stupid idea.
Who gives a shit. Ya'll should just leave it alone. It ain't like you're going to make any difference anyway. So what if eBay doesn't cancel all of the bootleg auctions? That's on them. Let them deal with those sellers. It's "buyer beware" when using eBay. And any person with common sense should be able to tell the difference between the bootlegs and official DVDs. Let the dumb ones take their own risks.
And quit hatin' on people trying to make some money! Don't you got anything better to do with your spare time?
Ya'll are just mad because ya'll once bought bootlegs (knowing they were bootlegs, but hoping they would be good quality) and were disatisfied with them. I guess I'm the only one here who was actually happy with one of my bootleg purchases.

I honestly don't really care about bootlegs now either, I used to but now that they are releasing shit DVDs over here with a bunch of cropped picture and funky colors I’m definitely not supporting the official company by buying those things (anymore then I already have.) So basically my only choice now is to bootleg or hunt down DVD’s that are practically out of print. But I won't buy bootlegs because 90% of the time the quality and subtitles are indeed crap. So right now I’m basically screwed if I want to watch Dragonball Z.

Just had to address the naivete of this statement. The majority of bootleg sellers, at least the Chinese ones(which is where the majority of anime/movie piracy is taking place nowadays), are making these profits for organized crime. So ya, I wouldn't bother speaking up for the Chinese Mafia there my friend.Grandmaster J wrote: And quit hatin' on people trying to make some money!

Yes. A "How to Avoid Bootlegs" thread/sticky would be great. If it helps any other fans out there avoid getting ripped off, it'll be worth making it.
I believe eBay has its own page on how to tell bootleg items from legit ones... don't quite remember, though. I'll go check...
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Bootleg Dragonball DVDs are the fake Rolexes of the anime world. It's worse when you take into account that many people can't tell. Some signs are as followning
Seems overpriced when compared to the mainstream marketer/dubber's price for DVDs and Boxsets. Good example of this would be finding "Dragonboxes" in store stalls in Mexico or Chinatown.
Funky looking art is always a tip-off that something isn't right. Lack of a company logo is even driving the point further. A logo that is a fansub organization is a downright and blatent STATEMENT of it's illigitimacy.
A shoddly made website with poor English (or Spanish, German, French etc) is a good indicator when found with the above ones. HTML errors, unlicensed media or stolen media is another clue.
Free downloading of episodes for free is a VERY strong indication that the site for the company is not legit. No company would give away it's product for FREE unless they were immensely stupid.
I think that is a lot of the signs and it's very obvious that people can on some level tell if somthing is a bootleg. It would be nice if the fans could curtail the problem this way.

This should be put in a FAQ. That sums it up pretty well.Bardock the Mexican wrote:Bootleg Dragonball DVDs are the fake Rolexes of the anime world. It's worse when you take into account that many people can't tell. Some signs are as followning
