Oh no, I never thought it was possible so I never bothered making an opinion about whether I'd like it or not!
On one side, I guess I'm excited about DBZ being back in the spotlight, but on the other hand, I'm sure a bunch of stuff has got to be changed from the manga. But the more I think about it, the more ridiculous a live action version of the series would be. I mean, the big hair is a problem all on its own: There's more than likely gonna be one group who would understand if the big hair (at least in base form) is too out there to include in a live action film, while another group is gonna say that the series just won't be the series if it doesn't have big hair.
And I guess I shouldn't be surprised about this actually coming out. I mean, there's already a bunch of recent movies out there that have been adapted from old shows or comics. Then again, all of those were (I guess) easier to adapt, since the style of story telling is "American" in the sense that those series don't really have a solid continuity to it, aside from stuff like who the main characters are, and could have a movie made from it merely based on the characters. Sure, American comics have their little story arc, but I'm under the impression that that's something that's moderately new for them.
As for the movie itself, the report specifically said Dragon Ball Z, leading me to think that they're not starting right from the start with DB. I guess this is understandable, since that's what the US fans are most familiar with. And with that said, I guess that would also mean that they're gonna start off with the "Vegeta Saga," if they're even gonna go by the original story line and not start from scratch.
With all that outta the way, I would definitely watch this movie on opening day, if it comes out in the US, just because I'm a fan of the series. And it can't get any worse than "The Magic Begins" movie, right? The way EX talks about it, it seems pretty... meh.

I'm happy and scared at the same time. From the way the article sounds, it makes you wonder if there's a montage at the beginning showing Goku arriving and then hitting his head, with a fast forward to Goku and Gohan heading to Roshi's island.
How they're going to do the energy blasts is beyond me. That alone is going to push the budget to its limits if they want to make it look good. Being an Android Saga fan, part of me wishes they did the Android saga from Trunks arriving to Trunks saving his future. That's a lot of story to tell in a movie, though.
The Saiyan saga will be very worth watching, just...no super saiyans.
Live action spirit bomb, Oozaru, Kaio Ken....Kamehamemas? Yes, please. Maybe this time the people in the helicopters won't have parachutes.

Dear God. All I can say is I'm on the edge of my seat with wide eyes of shock. Can't figure out if I'm insanely excited to see this, or pondering if this'll kill the franchise. With proper CGI work and directing, certain franchises can be done in live-action form with respect; such as Spiderman, X-Men, Superman, even Evangelion, etc. etc. But DBZ...my goodness, all I can say is I'll be in line for the first ticket at my nearest theater showing it and I hope I enjoy it.

Well, you two can always flip a coin between watching this upcoming flick or the early 90s Chinese adaptation.

You and your sister oughta audition for Chibi Goten and Trunks if this franchise goes far enough into the Buu arc, I couldn't think of any pair better.

I remember during the rumors in '04, I thought about how the movie would look, and it was impossible to think of how it'd look with being extremely butchered.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Ah the live action Dragonball Z movie, the "Duke Nukem forever” of the Dragonball fandom. I bet money it won't go into production. However if it does god help us all.

I... really... hate that kind of intro. :meh:. Which is probably why I wrote mine. In fact... I dislike Sagas/Spidey3 style intros enough that I might pull a "stupid fanboy" and try to find someone to send my probably-not-working-with-the-plan intro to.
Yeah, or I'll just put it online.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Makes it hard not to watch it and be super-critical, but eh... to hope?

Ugh. This is going to be terrible.
Why, movie producers? Why must you desecrate a series that's been over for more than ten years?

First the possibility of Budokai 4, now this?
Imagine all the merchandise that's gonna spawn from this... all the extra fans... all the artwork... a brilliant movie...
It's gonna have a high budget, too. Looks like Kaboom's prophecy was true... it
has come!

Like everyone else I have mixed feelings for this. On one hand: HELLS YEAH LIVE ACTION DBZ!!!!, on the other: WHY!!!!!
Is it wrong that I don't want this to ever get out of the production stage?

I don't see anything bad coming from this... I'm all for it! So yeah it may suck... but that doesn't change Dragonball itself, now does it?
I'll be visiting the HUGE theaters at Antwerp specially for this movie when it comes out

By the time this comes out, I might be in Japan. Do you think they'll dub it over there with the original Japanese voice actors or just subtitle it?

Most likely they'll just subtitle it. I think that the Japanese aren't big on dubbing. I'm pulling that out of no where, so I'm most likely completely wrong.

They're big enough on dubbing that seiyuu role lists typically include notable dubbing they've done. They're often associated with particular actors, like I know the late SUZUOKI Hirotaka voiced quite a few Tom Cruise roles, and YAMADERA Kouichi has done a lot of Eddie Murphy roles.

Not that I hold high hopes for this movie, but I still won't strongly judge it either way until I've actually SEEN some of it.

Darn tootin', Stevey.
Though I'm still without a computer of my own at the moment, I decided this was big enough news for me to venture into the dangerous, overclocked and crappy option of using the family desktop. I neede to say...: Y'all don't know what you're talking about. This is AWESOME news.
Some of you are scared, but this movie is (metaphorically) a jungle that I'm slapping on my big pockety vest and charging, machete swinging, head-first into, if ya get whut I'm saying.
I have faith in Hollywood with this. They've done Spider-Man well, they've done Transformers especialy well, and they can do DragonBall well.
I honestly don't understand why you guys don't/didn't want this to happen. It WON'T be overly ridiculous because they're NOT going to try to perfectly imitate the manga/anime because they CAN'T perfectly imitate the manga/anime, because it would be visually and conceptually ridiculous if they did (If I hear one more person mention ridiculously big hair again, I'm gonna start throwing things). The film will be adapted from the source material, as practically ALL movie versions made from such things are.
I find it ridiculous how people have bitched and whined about changes in movies like Spider-Man and Transformers and such from their original material (Do you really WANT the Green Goblin in purple tights, for crying out loud?!). They'd have to screw up something REALLY big to make me complain about anything of the sort. I'm not calling you guys stupid or anything; I think I'm just really not picky.
I'd like to ask everyone to please, try not to be so negative about this movie. If you're so against it, and expect it to be bad, then of course you're not going to like it. But if you accept that it will actually be different from what you're all so used to, then I guaruntee you'll be able to enjoy it.
Anyhoo, provided this is legit and goes somewhere, then I promise, I'll be counting down the days.
