It's odd how Tien hurts himself via energy overconsumption

I noticed that. First, he dies in the Saiyan saga because of it, and then he almost dies in the cell saga because of it. It's weird because it always happens to him.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Ten's just one of those wild guys who doesn't know when to stop. It's always excesses with this guy. The extra eye, the constant Kikohos, etc...

I propose that it has to do with Tenshinhan being human. We don't see this phenomenon with Saiyans or Namekians unless they do it on purpose (Saiyan era Chaozu, Buu saga Vegeta), so what else CAN we attribute this to aside from Ten's race?

Other humans like Kuririn and Yamucha, while powerful in their own right, don't necessarily have an "all or nothing" finishing teqnique like the Kiko-ho that draw so drastically on their life forces, so I simply choose to assume that the effect would be similar had either of them developed such teqniques.

Look at Videl when she first learned to manipulate her own Ki-- it was utterly exhausting.

The kikoho was a maneuver of the Crane school. Roshi himself knew about it and cursed Crane Hermit for teaching it to Tien. Either way, before the Z era, it was known as a truly great move, but at a cost.

I think for the most of the fighters that know how to manipulate their ki, it's easy to release almost all of it at once.

I think that the reason that Tenshinhan uses it is because, as told, he is a wild cowboy. All or nothing. Win some loose some. Joker or King. I can see their parachutes, they're ok.

He's just prone to using moves where he can kill himself. That's why he tried out the Mufaba as well I bet!

He seem to be a very spiritual man whatever religion(seems Buddist) he is that could have something to do with it. Then agian he is Chaozus body gaurd so that could have a bunch to do with it especially in the Saiyan Saga, and in the Cell Saga he probobly noticed that if he did not do anything then he would die anyways and he would look like a coward which he is far from. He is a rathar over looked character in DBZ though since he is one of the characters who has trained all though out DB DBZ and GT, plus his Tri Beam, his Four Arm teqnique (even though he only used it in DB), and that extra eye makes him much stronger.
This maybe to high but by the end of GT i would place him at about Gokus SSJ strength though since he is definatly strong then Goten, Trunks and Gohan(GT) at SSJ, even though he never fought :x
During DBZ though he seems like a character you can always count on when your in a bit of a pickle.
Gluttony is the tastiest sin.

I have always thought that the humans were stronger than what everyone say...after all they improved a hell of a lot when they trained, and got into higher levels than Goku when he was training (like when Goku was @ Kaio's, and then the humans were @ Kaio's).

I just want to add that the limit of avatars is 80x80 pixels. That's why the most of us have 80x80 pixels. So you should reduce the size of your avatar.

Don't forget how he almost lost the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai when he used all his energy for one big Kikoho. If Goku didn't hit the car, Goku would have win.

That's because the Kikoho is an attack that not only put in a lot of power to the blast, but it's also incredibly exhausting on the user and can be fatal if used too much. Hence why Tenshinhan died using it on Nappa. He used up all of the energy he had left in his body and used the technique to try and finish Nappa.

It's also why everyone was worried about Tenshinhan when he used it against Cell. He would either die from overusing the ShinKikoho, or if Cell got a hold of him. That's why Goku stepped in when he noticed Tenshinhan overdid it and collapsed from the lack of energy.
