Yeah, it's the first time in canon that this has happened. By our powers combined, etc. That's pretty 'power of friendship' in my books, especially since Mr. Satan's relationship with the people of Earth is the only reason it worked in the first place. Had Mr. Satan not been such an endearing individual to the people of Earth, it wouldn't have been enough to beat Kid Buu at all.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:The Genki Dama has internally consistent principles that make it work, and moreover, has nothing to do with "friendship conquers all" in the slightest. How is the Spirit Bomb Goku uses to defeat Kid Buu any less "friendship conquers all" than Trunks doing the same thing?
What about that time all the saiyans stood in a friendship circle holding hands to give Goku a power up in the Beerus arc?
Semantics aside; is this the first time in canon we've seen people involuntarily using their energy to power another up? Genuine question. I can think of a few Toei movies where energy has been transferred to power someone up, but can't think of canon examples.

Everyone giving Goku power during the Baby fight (not gonna call him bebi...). Can't forget that.Jinzoningen MULE wrote:The Genki Dama has internally consistent principles that make it work, and moreover, has nothing to do with "friendship conquers all" in the slightest. I think everyone would agree about the SSG transformation, it's pretty dumb.
That being said, using "the power of friendshit!" kinda kills stuff for me.
Unless it's a Fusion technique bonus, then it actually makes SENSE and doesn't look silly.

Kubo gets tons of hate from all sides. Naruto/one piece fandom you name it. I actually believe that Kubo's soul Society arc is better than anything than oda eiichiro and kishimoto put out. With the pain arc coming in close second.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:Yes, I mean Kubo Tite. The author of popular series Bleach. I have been following his work as of recent and I'm super impressed. Can you explain why you think he is awesome?
Kubo is probably my favorite battle mangaka when it comes to constructing action scenes. Sadly, he doesn't get enough credit for that from what I've seen.

Considering how badly Bleach ended up bombing in Japan immediately after the Soul Society arc I'd say you're very much in the minority on the Kubo>Oda and Kishi part. Soul Society was pretty much the only arc people seem to universally think was good when asked about Bleach. Possibly because it's the only one with any kind of emotional weight.Miracles wrote:Kubo gets tons of hate from all sides. Naruto/one piece fandom you name it. It was garbage writing and I don't see how anyone could defend it, I'm gonna save myself some time and just quote myself from an earlier similar thread
Then we have what I would say is the biggest offender of all: Trunks using the Spirit Bomb better than Goku ever has then somehow fucking channelled it into his sword. Seriously what the actual fuck was that!? Trunks has never seen or heard of the Spirit Bomb (then again Future Gohan could've told him about it). Goku had to train for months with the actual creator of the Spirit Bomb in order to perfect the technique.
Even so using it had multiple downsides: long charge time, user has to stay stationary with his hands up, sentient beings have to willingly give up their genki for the attack to gain power.
Using the Spirit Bomb has always been a risky last resort for Goku to use that left viewers (or readers) on the edge of their seats.
But not for Trunks did it have a long charge time? Nope it only took a few seconds, did Trunks have the concentrate with his hands up to charge it? Nope he wasn't even aware of what was happening it. Did the remaining populace willingly donate genki? Nah it's Trunks time you better give up that genki whethere you want to or not.
Conclusion: Horrible writing.
