Worst new character in DBS

Any "character" that just leans onto walls and is strong because he is supposed to be a badass,which is the totality of their contribution. 0 personality tailor-made for 15 year olds.

Yet he had the most memorable and entertaining personalities of all the new Kai's. Besides Gowasu, he's the only one who has some personality. The rest are just blank slates or designs. The U6 Kai is so boring and we've seen him in two arcs now.

Not sure what to think of Caulifla anymore. Sometimes I love her for her personality and hair style, but sometimes I dislike her for becoming the queen of transformations.

Anyways, there's Kale. I already disliked her while first seeing the Universal Survival Saga trailer for simply being a female Broly, just like how I disliked having Freeza being brought back again instead of keeping Buu in the team. However, Freeza went on to become a highlight of this tournament because of how well he has been handled. Kale hasn't been thus far. She made me realize the charm that Broly had instead. He was something of his own. He had an unique fighting style that resembles wrestling like that of Rikum, his design is good when he is and he is not transformed, and his personality (in the first movie) was deranged, psychotic, but could still control his train of thought and had some stability, and bonus points for him being in a movie, so he is animated well.

My issue with Kale is that she was a wasted character. She could have been a better Broly, without his writing flaws. We could have been given more background on her as to what makes her possess an unique transformation, why does she pity herself over anything, what is going on between her and Caulifla and why is she hostile to outsiders to them. We got something out of Caulifla, she is the leader of a gang and has Gohan levels of potential (even if it could have been written better), and her personality is fierce because people in gangs can't show fear. Not only Kale's background is minimal, but she only exists as a shameless attempt to canonize Broly. Toei animated her scenes based on Broly's, of course, without great animation for obvious reasons. Her personality is just Broly's with a coat of flanderization on top. Untransformed, she has a squeaky voice that reminds me of angry kids on Call of Duty and acts like a whinier version of Gohan, without his occasional outbursts of badass. Transformed, she just says Broly's lines and acts like an ape, without the control that Broly had in his first movie.

I understand her being Broly is the purpose of the character, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Would she have existed if Broly didn't? Absolutely not. How about Caulifla? Different name and probably nothing else. I do wonder now, however, if I never saw the Broly movies, what would be my reaction to Kale?

No comments on other characters, even on Monaka who is getting ripped apart in this thread.

The other Kais got so little screentime, I can't say I enjoyed or disliked them. So far they've all been background characters. Roh had a lot of screentime, and while I admit he has personality, he still annoyed me.

Gohan just got back the power he had in the Buu saga. And now that he's in the forefront again, I don't see what's boring about him. Obviously in episodes he doesn't get much focus he's not going to be interesting in.

Yeah he got it back in 45 minutes after slacking off for 4 years. And it's one thing if that power was earned originally, but it wasn't. Tedious.

What's the point of giving someone a talking role and screentime, when he gets fodderized with one hit, without anyone putting any weight into it?

He was supposed to be the leader of his team last I heard, but I feel like they swapped his role with the Professor.

Hopefully U3 redeems itself with it's other, better members soon.

I had such high hopes for both Nigrisshi and Narirama but they get fodderized so hard. At least Narirama got taken out by Hit, but Nigrisshi is supposed to be the strongest modified warrior of U3. Were they lying? Perhaps the robots that they have are much stronger than the modified warriors.

This was one of the two big parts of the episode I really didn't like. I wouldn't be surprised if the writer of this episode just forgot about Niggirishi. I think they did, because this was just ridiculous. He has been shown quite a bit, and his bio on Toei website made it seem that we'd see interesting things from him. He was taken out literally in a blink and miss it moment which was really stupid.

Another thing that is odd is that Ea commented on Narirama but there was no reaction whatsoever to Niggirishi getting taken out. Yet, Ea told him in the recruitment "We expect great things from you, after all you're Dai San Uchuu's greatest modified warrior..."

Idk what was in their heads but this was quite the mess up lol.

Yeah, thinking about it I actually like Broly better. I was more than willing to give Kale a chance as well but man, it is a chance not even deserved at this point.

But on a positive note I will say that the best new character in DBS is Caulifla. It's weird since she wasn't hyped at all and Kale was hyped as the female super saiyan, but Caulifla came out of nowhere and is awesome IMO. How her writing is handled in terms of power-ups though is meh.

Yeah you know, as much as I really hate all the bullshit power-ups she keeps getting, I actually think I might be slightly disappointed if she doesn't go Super Saiyan 3 before she's eliminated. I mean hey, she's already bullshitted her way this far, might as well go for the trifecta right? Seems like Goku already hinted at it too. If she does use it though, that'll probably be her undoing and what gets her KOed because of the immense stamina drain. I just hope she doesn't get eliminated next episode protecting Kale. God that would be horrible. I really hope they don't knock out a good character this early in favor of the worst character ever. Maybe Cabba will save her, who knows.

No I don't decide criteria. Picking fodder useless characters who contribute nothing to the plot isn't an interesting answer. Choosing characters that play a role in the story stimulates much more dialogue, which is the whole damn point of these forums.

You're free to post whatever you want but not without scrutiny and I agree that saying stuff like that is not only pointless but nonsensical as well. Unless you want to say that you enjoy every new character and so you'll pick background fodder because you don't think there is a worst new character, that would at least be an interesting answer that provokes dialogue and makes sense.

Worst new characters have been mostly the Kai's, they don't seem to have much personality outside of their gods of destruction counterparts. Roh and Gowasu being the exceptions.

The worst so far was Future Trunks - don't get me wrong, he just needed more screen time to develop the character and explain a lotta things happened.

Part of me wants to say Kale, but her relationship with Caulifla could be somewhat interesting, so I'm not sure I'd call her the worst. With that in mind, I'll go with Zen-Oh as the worst for the time being, for reasons I've already stated in the past.
