When meeting, did Nail always say to Piccolo "I am not trying to trick you brother." ? I thought the original line was "I am not trying to decieve you brother." I can't remember for sure, I might be messing up dub lines with manga lines in my head.
The original dub line, as I remember it, is the "I'm not trying to trick you, brother" variation.

If this has changed, then it means that Schemmel came back in to record for Nail . . . which is of course . . . . impossible . . .

Wait what did I miss? Why is that impossible?

Man, we're still waiting for Season 2 here in Aus (Oct 10th last check)

Anyway the layout of the cover is still as ugly as hell, at least there's some nice artwork of Freeza.

Akira,

So far would you say overall it is better than the previous DVD sets?

I say that only because Schemmel already had the available reason to come in and re-record for Nail-- a character he loved playing-- with the last six episodes of the Season Two set and didn't. So if he didn't take the chance then, I don't see the circumstance in which he would take it now for Season Three.

It'd be cool if sean Schemmel redubbed his lines and used the badass voice he used for SSJ3 and SSJ4 Goku when Goku's at SSJ1.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Almost up to the episode where Goku becomes a Super Saiyan. Most of the dialog has been Goku and Freeza these past episodes, so aside from Piccolo's redub work, it seems pretty much the same as before.

I will say the colors seem much more consistant now than they did before. I remember episodes where things seemed brighter and others where it seemed more dark and gritty before. Even though there is different artists working on different episodes, the color seems to remain consistant throughout, which is one positive I can claim for this set. I will comment on the Super Saiyan episodes later today.

I vaguely remember Piccolo having a flashback of when Goku killed King Piccolo while Goku and Freeza fight during the five minutes. Once you get to those episodes, could you check to see if the dub added in the appropriate DB dub with Chibi Goku and King Piccolo's lines (er I guess grunts)?

Holy shit. You beat Tanooki to it?!
Hmm, I think I might still post a dissection. I mean... its a dissection so I dissect it and post scans of the book, screen shots and audio samples by request. Unless of course Akira would like to do that, its all yours. :D
...Piccolo's "YES, I'm alive, I'm wide awake, I feel great, yes, yes, yes, I can do this!" (Not exact, but you know the part I mean.) line is still in there.
Wow, that sucks. Well, at least Piccolo is redubbed so it don't sound as bad. :?

You can't not do it, Tanooki. I mean, c'mawn; we're used to it by now.

Read my first response to this thread. You're our visual guy! Even if Akira does post pictures, it's not like we all can't benefit from more than one viewpoint.

Here's one I just thought of.

In the Season 3 dub, we see Burdock through the flashback of the special. In it, instead of talking about everyone's fate being determined by his upcoming attack including Freeza's, he's supposedly talking to the soldiers behind him and calling them his own men and what not.

Was this fixed?

Where did you score Season 3 so early?

Oh lord, please say they fixed that stupidity.

Tanooki, by all means still go forward with your normal disection. I am not wanting to take your place in that job.

To whoever asked, that line about "Whatever turns you on big guy" is still in there. On the other question, Bardock still says the same lines as before. That point in particular annoyed me.

The one thing I can go on about is the coloring being consistant now throughout the saga. It varied a lot originally, much to my annoyance, but now seems to be the same from episode to episode, which I must say I do like. Vegeta's jumpsuit is a dark navy blue in most scenes now instead of appearing to be black like it did in many episodes originally. If they got anything right with this set, the color consistancy is it.

Granted, I am watching this on a Samsung 720p LCD in an Xbox 360 connected with a VGA Cable, so it really takes advantage of their changes. The "Widescreen" is a pain in a few scenes where it takes off the top of someone's head, but otherwise it fits my television perfectly. I am still not fond of this change, but at least my setup takes advantage of it.

More to come after I finish watching the whole set. I am up to the part where everyone is wished back to earth, so I should be able to post final thoughts in the next 48 hours at some point.

Has it been redubbed by Linda Young or is it still the original line from 1999? :)

Also, if Schemmel isn't redubbing anything, that means that there's still been a few instances of reference to "the next dimension" right? I know he said it a couple times in the original season 3, the last time being around the first SSJ episode.

"Next dimension" in Season 3 was only used for the broadcast version. They still mentioned death in the uncut one.

Some time ago . . .
In that same vein, the line I'm watching for in Season Three is one by which I'll likely judge the compency of the entire set as a whole (or at least the quasi-redub portion). Yes, it's that important.

Yeah, I think we all know the one I mean. Homosexual overtones galore and ultimate Freeza gayness:

"Whatever turns you on, big boy."

As I recall, both Chris Psaros and VegettoEX threw a fit over this abomination back in the day . . . and rightfully so. FUNimation can redub all the characters perfectly this time around and throw all sorts of effort into making this the best set yet, but if they leave in that little gem then it's going to be a serious blemish no matter how good the rest of it is.

So we'll see.
And then, today . . .
Akira wrote:To whoever asked, that line about "Whatever turns you on big guy" is still in there.
Un. Fucking. Believable.

. . .

Then again, it turns out that the whole Burdock thing annoys me even more-- I hadn't even considered that one until it was mentioned here, and it was something far more worthy of change than even the aformentioned Freeza line. And the fact that it hasn't been makes me genuinely pissed.

Akira, did Strait actually redub that line, or was it merely left in as originally recorded? Can you tell? I want to know just how deeply the idiocy runs here.

That would be stupid if they redubbed it wrong.

It was the same as before, it is mostly only Chris Sabat's lines that are redone, mostly everything else is the same as before. All of Goku and Freeza's lines have remained unchanged.

So wait a sec... They have re-recorded some dialogue in these sets that appeared in the original dub? That doesn't make any sense to me.. Why would there be any need to re-record the exact same lines? It would make sense for dialogue that they have revised/improved, obviously that would need to be dubbed again. But why would there be any need to re-record the exact same dialogue?

Because FUNimation does everything ass backwards, in regard to the Dragon Ball property.
