Why would there be any need to re-record the exact same lines? It would make sense for dialogue that they have revised/improved, obviously that would need to be dubbed again. But why would there be any need to re-record the exact same dialogue?
If they didn't re-record ALL of the lines and only select ones, you'd have 1999 Sabat/Vegeta switching constantly with 2007 Sabat/Vegeta and back again. It's bad enough that we have 1999 Schemmel/Goku stuck with 2007 Sabat/Vegeta for part of Season Two-- do we really need to give individual characters split-voice personalities for Season Three?

So the voice actors' voices have changed/evolved that much between 1999 and now?

Yup, you can totally tell. Compare Sabat's "Drummond imitation Vegeta" to his later "Chain smoker Vegeta". ;) Other than that, if you had the Season 2 boxset, didn't Goku's delivery and voice seem "off" to you after he fought Jeice and Batta?

AKIRA: In case you didn't read it before, I'm really interested about where you got the set early. Thanks! :)

Yo, SonGokuGT.
Earlier in the thread, Akira wrote:As to how I aquired it so early, we got them in at work and I just bought one. It was supposed to be out sooner anyway, so I figured if they catch it and yell at me I'll just claim ignorance of the later release date.

Bah, don't worry about it.

I just wish Akira's answer had turned out to be something more concrete, like a way that we could all pick up this set as incredibly early as he did.

Yeah, I noticed that right off the bat...I was like...Why is Goku suddenly talking much faster with like...no emotion?

That pretty much killed my dub-watching experience right there. I had to switch it to Japanese from then on.

I'm surprised they would go to the trouble of re-dubbing their voices.. I can certainly notice a difference between the earlier episodes and the later ones, but not necessarily to the extent of feeling that they HAVE to be re-dubbed. That's not to say I don't appreciate the effort - I think it's pretty cool that they are trying to keep the voices consistent. I'm just saying that the voice changes/evolution doesn't really bother me that much.

What DOES bother me is bad dialogue... I can handle hearing an inconsistent voice if that voice is delivering a well-written line, but bad dialogue is what really gets me... I don't care if legendary voices like Michael Caine or Morgan Freeman are delivering the lines, don't feed me bad writing!!

What's problematic is that not only did they NOT fix some of the worst dialogue, but they also didn't redub EVERYONE during Season 3. So you have a mix of current voice work with voice work from 1999 when the characters sounded like imitations of their previous Ocean Group voices.

I have another question, regarding the video: Does this set have any of those really annoying glitches, like Nappa's teeth disappearing or the "Vegeta having Gohan as outlines"-thing from the earlier sets? Or does it actually look somewhat decent this time?

Hey there, normally I'm a lurker but I just bought this set so I figured I'd register so I could answer some questions.

I found the set at a store called "Simply Kids" at the Mainplace mall. (it's a rather deceiving name considering a lot of the anime, manga, figures, etc. that they sell is hardly kids stuff. And I'm not talking about DB) I had to pay a rather rip-off price compared to what I could have gotten it for if I had waited, but whatever...

I've so far only watched up through the end of the first disc (which ends just before the Piccolo/Freeza fight) and I've been watching it in almost all Japanese because (1) I haven't seen these episodes in Japanese before and (2) I just can't take the dub seriously anymore.

So far I have noticed one instance of this very similar to the messed up Vegeta pic from the second season. It happens when Gohan and Kuririn are trying to make their wish with Porunga and they sense Vegeta coming. The image of Vegeta flashes on the screen so fast that the lines screw up and you're left wondering "What the hell was that?!" I'll try to get a picture up here.

Here's the one. These two images flash back and forth so fast that the DVNR sort of blends them together and it comes out looking like this:

Now keep in mind that it flashes by so fast that I had to work pretty hard to catch the freeze-frame so you could actually see it. In other words, while it is very noticeable, it's not really annoying because it's only there for half a second.

I haven't come across any other glaring screw-ups yet but I haven't watched very much so sit tight. There were quite a few scenes in season two that I thought looked pretty good. It seemed like the film dirt wasn't nearly as pervasive as it was in the first season. Obviously season three also has a lot of good-looking scenes but I've come to know by now that that's not what you guys are interested in seeing. You lousy bashers...

Let me know if there's something else you want me upload.

If there's a scene in the season sets that you think looks good, by all means upload it.

Well, at least it's largely unnoticable. And yeah, these guys here aren't interested in ANY pic that actually makes these sets look good.

Seriously, if there's just one scene that you believe actually looks good from the season sets, back that shit up! Show me some screenies. :P

My apologies to Akira for turning this thread into another "Season Sets suck" topic.

Oh jesus. I don't want to turn this into another retarded debate - so I'll just say this. Dumbasses like you act like just about every frame of animation on these sets has some sort of error, and when Akira talks about how these new sets don't have problems, you guys aren't interested in all of the good pics - you guys just want him to post pics that contain glitches that are only there for half of a sceond.

Sorry for the double post, but after taking a good look at the Dende pic, I just want to say this: Dende must've been doing Guru some "favors" before flying.
