It has gotten old already. To the point where I'm not even surprised. I'm anticipating it.

I'm watching a Goku fight and I'm like, "Watch this, bae. Watch this fool leave his guard down again." And bam! He does it. Smh *sigh*

Correct me if it is just filler in the anime, but Z era Goku would have been killed by Ginyu if the Captain didn't decide to let him go thanks to the much weaker Jeice blind siding him with a ki blast.

I don't understand why people have a problem with Goku having a weakness. No character is perfect, even Goku. Does Goku letting his guard down get overused? Yes, I'd say it does too. But if he conquers even that then what more is left for Goku to overcome? What weakness will Goku have that future villains and warriors can exploit? You gotta live with some of these things otherwise you'll never enjoy these shows. It's the same complaints with a "lack of tension" in Episode 101 because Goku didn't got SSJB. First y'all complain that SSJB is spammed like crazy in every single fight Goku is in and then when the writers don't use SSJB then it becomes a lack of tension in the fight and boring. Make up your mind haters because y'all are never happy.

For this specific "guard let down" situation, we have the Zenos asking each other where Goku is. Then one remarks that he's being attacked. It cuts to a scene were we only see explosions come up from afar but no one of the characters. So it totally makes sense that Goku got distracted because all 5 Pride Troopers ambushed that area and then Tupper was able to take advantage of the smoke from the explosions and get on Goku's back.

Though I would like it more if an opponent just straight up got the better of Goku. It's making it seem like the only way to get Goku is to get him when his guard is down. They just don't have to announce it. If they cut to Tupper grappling Goku and didn't mention the Guard I'd believe it all the same. But I guess ,looking on the other side, some folk would be asking, "But it's Goku, how does some random get a hold of Goku like that"?

Whateves though. Again It doesn't kill anything for me, at worst it becomes another Goku meme.

Any character can sneak up and attack any other character from any angle and at all sides at any time. How is this an issue?

I have no problem with people catching each other off-guard, if it's written properly. In the last episode the five members of the Troopers were ahead of Goku and openly declared their intention to fight. How did Goku got surprised in that scenario? They didn't even bother to show it, that's how bad it was.
It just damages Goku's standing as a fighter.

Now if there was smoke and mirrors shenanigans, happening after a particularly strenuous mental fight, because Goku is busy with particularly dangerous foe)s), ad infinitum logical reasons.
But it's not, poor writing it's all this is.

This. The whole "He dropped his guard," is a crutch to avoid coming up with creative ways for a fighter to gain an advantage or be eliminated. Even though Goku's strong, five Pride Troopers who are used to working together should've been able to get a hold on him through strategy. If this happened, it should've been shown. This would solve the problem of Goku dropping his guard, as well as showing the strength of teamwork and the competence of the Pride Trooper.

This is a battle royal and with all the fighters that could be coming at you at anytime, combined with fatigue, and it's very possible to have mental lapses. However, this is a T.V show and I'd hope things would be a little more imaginative.

Goku's competency seems to alternate depending on the intentions of the episode writer. In the recent one, they needed to find a justification for keeping Goku encumbered so Caulifla would be isolated and #18 could make a contribution. Taking advantage of his naivete has been a common occurrence since the beginning. When he's on guard, however, I can't see why he would be caught by surprise unless the opponent was just outright more strategic he is, which isn't a huge milestone.

I think it's a problem because Resurrection 'F' specifically highlighted this flaw and Goku still haven't fixed it. Or more specifically, he's still working on it. In this last episode, we never saw how Goku's guard got taking. He could have been fighting the little guy and the guy landed on him from behind.

It was never really an issue in OG Dragonball, aside from one or two moments, both outside of combat.

Not sure why they decided for this to be a thing in Super.
