Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Finally was able to watch it full and in HD. Conservative for the most part, but I really liked the 2nd half. Storyboarding was really solid as has already been said. NEP looks decent, but I am really looking forward to see some juicy Tate action next week.

Solid episode, watching vegeta change face expression was priceless

And of course, I love seeing goku with 3 hair spikes in the back instead of four, Nashizawa tries
I liked the effects used to show the sense of speed

So it was really intentional the whole transformation sequence to be played twice in this episode? This is useful to save animation?

One can only presume so. By basically repeating an entire three minute long scene, you'd think the number of original frames they would need to create would be significantly lowered.Noah wrote:So it was really intentional the whole transformation sequence to be played twice in this episode? Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Nothing really noteworthy, but I'm surprised it turned out so solid with that tiny staff.
And I was right about Yoichi Onishi returning (I just guessed the wrong episode)... but I guess both me and Ajay were wrong on who he was...
Honestly this was the first Tournament episode that I thought was boring, second half was pretty okay though.
There was some nice art in the NEP, but man they showed like no action, hopefully Tate is able to give us some goods.

So an episode does an absolutely horrible job with reused scenes and animation and no one is really criticizing it?

I don't get it,I see a lot of people complain the episode about reused animation including me.Asura wrote:So an episode does an absolutely horrible job with reused scenes and animation and no one is really criticizing it?

Really the Guys at Toei should learn a thing or two from Sunrise. All Toei has to do is hold on this shot for up to 6 minutes and have witty character dialogue
[spoiler]

In all seriousness though, I didnt appreciate being subjected to rewatching that entire transformation from scratch, nor did i appreciate looking at Tate's transformation animation be split, and reused between 3 characters, nor did I appreciate looking at whats-her-name throw her arm up and out 8 times. But I'll be damned if the directing on the action, and the humorous gags didn't make up for it to a degree.
Still that doesnt take away from the fact that like 5 minutes of this episode was reused footage
I think another big part is just how much we were expecting it.

Smart use of resources. I liked the #17 and beast girl fight with all those different angles. Mitsuka Masato did a nice job with the direction. He is experienced with magical girls which helped a lot. The U2 characters are so good.
Animation wise, it was nothing impressive. But, smart direction made it entertaining.

Since those episode descriptions that came out earlier seem to be real I hope we get our staff listings soon.
Also this style seems familiar, but I can't place it;

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
I personally don't mind about the repeated animation in the first half of the episode, mainly because i understood it as a joke, and i found it funny.
But it is true that this stole a lot of time from the episode.

Yeah, that looks like Tate to me. I think it's because we don't see him draw Piccolo like that often.ArchedThunder wrote:Since those episode descriptions that came out earlier seem to be real I hope we get our staff listings soon.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
The reused cuts were simply a gag, and it worked fine for me. I laughed a lot during the episode, and the storyboard was beautiful alongside a really really good direction.
Nothing to complain, even though all the Helles' big hand cuts were very repeated.

Currently my least favorite episode of the tournament. The fights were pretty disappointing compared to the previous two but oh well. Not a bad episode. Just a little too little for my tastes.

Here's the extended scene from the OP. I presume the extension was done by Miuma Kenji?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Since the descriptions that came out seem to be real and Onishi showed up before I expected I thought I'd update my prediction. Might as well add secondary supervisors/outsource studios as well.
103 - Tate + Toei Phils.
104 - Karasawa + Wanpack
105 - Itai + Nii
106 - Kitano + Toei Phils.
Anyone else gonna do predictions?

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
So this episode 103 was basically Toei tooking a week off to work more on the later episodes?
It was full of re-used cuts (Helles and U2 girls transformation) and the action too looked quite conservative. I don't complain as long as the more important episodes are great, and 103 was good enough.
I hope Karasawa will be in 104, he could re-use some of his Goku vs Hit animation from episode 72. Hopefully Kitano will be on 105, which is Roshi's episode.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Because like others have said this episode was well directed and storyboarded and the re-used animation for the transformation was actually a plot point, and the re-used animation only then pertaining to Helles is fine because well she's just talking and not like an action cut is being used over and over.Asura wrote:So an episode does an absolutely horrible job with reused scenes and animation and no one is really criticizing it?

Could anyone do a small animation breakdown for this scene. Maybe explain what they like or don't like about it? Thanks!JazzMazz wrote:Here's the extended scene from the OP. I presume the extension was done by Miuma Kenji?
