It was both. Magical Girl animes are infamous for reusing stock footage for when it come to transformations. And the episode was one big homage to everything good and bad about Magical Girl animes, so they killed two birds with one stone through reusing the amount of animation as they did. Play up to the parody of Magical Girl animes and give animators more time to work on future episodes.Noah wrote:So it was really intentional the whole transformation sequence to be played twice in this episode? This is useful to save animation?

I really wonder how much Onishi corrected this episode and what exactly his corrections were.
Also Tsuji was fairly light this episode, wonder if that means she's going to dominate half of 104.
She still provided some really nice stuff this episode though.

I think that Piccolo is the best Piccolo she's ever drawn.

Upcoming supervisors:
103 - Yasuhiro Namatame & Naoki Tate
104 - Yui Kinoshita & Hiroyuki Itai
105 - Hirotaka Nii
106 - Masahiro Shimanuki
These are from Animage. The listing in Animedia (?) is all kinds of messed up. It listed Yoshiyuki Shikano, a background artist, as the supervisor.
Just going to ignore that.
EDIT:
Did the directors, too:
103 - Hideki Hiroshima
104 - Takao Iwai
105 - Masanori Sato
106 - Takahiro Imamura

Yasuhiro Namatame is another person from Tiger Mask.
And Karasawa seems to have vanished again
Hopefully he's with Nii or Shimanuki and just not listed.
Also, is Kitano going to get 10 weeks again? If that happens it's going to be a real head scratcher.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
We've got two new storyboarders as well, Mori Takeshi of Yu Yu Hakusho fame, and Nishijima Katsuhiko who has an... interesting history, if it's the same one I found.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Not strictly animation related, but I thought I'd clarify since I saw it brought up recently, and this bit of info was just brought to my attention on Twitter.
Despite Daisuki having the lead in Super encodes when the simulcasts began, CrunchyRoll upped their game at around episode 83, sporting a whopping near-8K bitrate compared to Daisuki's 5K. Crunchy used to encode at 3K, which is why I always recommended Daisuki if it was available to you.
So... yeah, stick to CrunchyRoll if you can!

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Really liked the episode. The storyboard was magnificent and this is BY far the smartest and funniest episode of the tournament so far. The art was constantly good and the ending satisfying with some cool action.
The bank didn't feel unpleasant and I like how they actually wrote the plot around it. Shows how people can make something good while helping the series' production.
Since that Yashima episode, everything looks so good. We watch a weekly series and we constantly get exciting new plots and scenes.
Next week is Tate and the Botamo vs Gohan fight had some of the issues I really hate with his work (like how all his characters are so elastic. You can't expect people to accept these tricks without the screen been busy or the action fast). I sure hope his episode gets corrected and that he can give us something like Goku vs 17 (Gohan's counter fight looks like that).
Since storyboards got so great, I sure hope that the tournament continues to impress us. 17 already did more than enough and I guess that Rebrianne will beat him.
Hit can beat Dyspo and slowly but steadily have universe 6 and universe 2 lose their weaklings.
Bank animation is over (except that Jiren cut from Shida) so people can finally relax with it

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Well, I can agree that art wise the Boo arc is the best in the franchise, I love how characters don't look like plastic there, but Super had a lot of good looking episodes too and animation wise had better cuts.Asura wrote:Because I'd be shocked if someone said there's another arc in Super that looks better than this one, I should assume it's obvious how much better it consistently looks than any other arc, although you never know with some people. But if you're talking about the entire franchise, like DB, DBZ, GT, and DBS? Noooo way. I agree with the others who said the Buu arc is absolute pinnacle of the franchise.

Isn't CR premium for 1080p? Daisuki is still free and apparently ad free too (I haven't had a single ad from them in 3 months I only use the mobile app so perhaps it's a glitch on that?), I think I'll just still stick with them tbh.Ajay wrote:Not strictly animation related, but I thought I'd clarify since I saw it brought up recently, and this bit of info was just brought to my attention on Twitter.

Yeah, it is premium. I have a subscription anyway, so it's not a huge deal for me to switch over, but figured I'd let people know.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Isn't CR premium for 1080p? I have no idea about Funi's stuff, but I know it's hardsubbed, so I just stay well away.
Dragon Ball Super is the only thing staying, weirdly. They said they'd announce something later down the line. I'm guessing it'll probably be some sort of official WatchDBSuper!! site.ArchedThunder wrote:You're not going to be able to stick with them, they're shutting down.

-Episode 102-
If anyone told me Toriyama had wrote this episode, I would believe it.
That was a smart way to recycle animation. Not only works as a joke towards magical girls shows, but the characters are not hide it either.
Kinda reminds me of those Gintama episodes when the Yorozuya talk they run out of budget and they don't do nothing for the entire episode.
But here even though the beginning was slow, the action was solid in the second part and compensated for that.
All the decisions they have been doing during this have been the right ones. I'm impressed. This is how you manage your staff and do a battle royal between 80 fighters without the production go to flames. Keep it up!
-Staff list-
Welp, here goes my hope for having Karasawa in episode 104.
Maybe he will come back later. It's strange he coming back to do one episode and then go away again, but who knows what's happening behind the scenes.
I forgive him if he appears during Goku vs Jiren fight...
Still waiting for Ryo Onishi, Yuya Takahashi and Yamamuro to appear too. I'm confident Shida will appear so I'm not worried about him.
As expected, the Tournament will be long enough to Shimanuki supervise another episode and judging by how slow the time has been passing, everyone may supervise a second episode. That's cool. I'm glad they aren't rushing everything.

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

It's a joke. magical girl shows gratuitously reuse animation for transformation sequences.Asura wrote:So an episode does an absolutely horrible job with reused scenes and animation and no one is really criticizing it?

I did a quick search about Katsuhiko Nishijima, and it seems that he is know for panty-fanservice.
Takeshi Mori worked on Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin and World Trigger.
