Well maybe that's all he is interested in. I have a friend that refuses to watch the japanese version and wait for the Dub. Could be the same deal here.Dragon Ball Gus wrote: I know this is the dub thread, but, the only threads I see this guy, Scsigs, are the (modern) dub threads.

Above, Daman Mills talks about his brief work as the Freeza "understudy".
Damn, I'm at a complete blank for who he could be playing. I wanna say Zamasu but that's only possible if things didn't work out with James Marsters.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
I'd actually like Matthew Mercer to do it if Marsters can't, but I know he won't. He's my preferred pick for him &, while I find the redemption of an actor from Evolution a very interesting behind-the-scenes kind of thing, I'd rather a great voice actor rather than an on-screen actor who doesn't do a lot of voice work, let alone anime dubbing. Plus, much like Champa, I expect the picks, minus Schemmel's frankly confusing portrayal of Black that makes absolutely no sense, to get better as they get more comfortable with voicing the characters as they listen to the Japanese voices & get better direction from Sabat, as opposed to just matching the timings of the Japanese actors with little in the way of direction other than the bare minimum.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Honestly, if things don't work out with James Marsters, I'd like to see Keith Silverstein fill in for Zamasu but considering that Sean and Chris have pretty much stated firmly that he IS going to be Zamasu in the dub I don't see that happening. They're keeping it hush hush for a reason
Why would I talk about the Japanese cast? I have nothing against them, though some grate on me, but I'm a major dub fan & can only really judge English voice acting effectively, hence why I can firmly say things like I hate Schemmel's stupid performance of Goku Black because it makes absolutely zero sense from an in-universe perspective, Chris Ayres kicks Linda Young's Frieza voice in the ass so hard it could be mistaken for rape (hyperbole, of course), I HATE Colleen Clinkenbeard as young Gohan & Goku, & other things I've said. Plus, I'm a dub fan, so I like talking about it. If I talk about the shows, I'm either going to talk about the dub, or the storytelling & production. Plain & simple.Dragon Ball Gus wrote:I know this is the dub thread, but, the only threads I see this guy, Scsigs, are the (modern) dub threads.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Ermm this is a thread dedicated to the FUNi dub... Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Back to Masters for a sec, I'm counting myself among those who say we should wait for the show and not judge him fully on a video game that has plenty of dubbing problems behind the scenes. On the other hand, comical as it may be, after watching this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tXWsB2LCIe0 I feel like I have a better understanding of his Zamasu. Having his voice paired the the anime instead of just coming out of thin air helps me at least, don't know if that'll work for anyone else. I just wanna give the guy a chance, cause I'm a big boy now and I don't want to do the reverse of "The Japanese voices are weird, I refuse to like them!" I think if you don't go in without expecting an approximation of the original voice, and keep an open mind to something a bit different, it might not be so bad. Not saying his performance in xenoverse was great, and I hope he loosens up habit for the dub, but let's not write him off completely is all.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
To be fair, Xenoverse 1 & 2 are VERY hit & miss with the dialogues being as they should be because of confirmed by the actors & Team Four Star confirming that they have very little direction & don't have the cutscenes, yet the anime has been getting constantly great voice acting from everyone, a few inconsistent voices from Cranz as Chichi & Edwards as Goten not withstanding.Kaio_Krazy wrote:Not saying his performance in xenoverse was great, and I hope he loosens up habit for the dub, but let's not write him off completely is all.

Funnily enough #31 was actually one of my favourite episodes of the arc. Bulma Jaco combo <3 I actually enjoyed the build up episodes to the tournament wish we had more build up, thankfully this current tournament arc we did!gohan_black wrote:it was good. champa voice match perfectly. too bad we need to go trough some un--interesting stuff until episode 33TRIZACK wrote:How was the English dub of 28..Didn't get a chance to see it tonight since I'm out getting drunk tonight.

even tough i ackgnolwledge that the dub considerd good i still have a lot of problems with how over-acted it is in some parts. why they talk in long sentences instead of taking their time is beyound me. i dont understand this really
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Because that's how it's done is the reason? I never really noticed any of what you're talking about here, nor do I get it, so it's not really a problem.gohan_black wrote:even tough i acknowledge that the dub considered good i still have a lot of problems with how over-acted it is in some parts. why they talk in long sentences instead of taking their time is beyond me. i don't understand this really
On another note, Vados is just a delight. Her deadpan roasting at Champa's expense is just great.

Aside from the inconsistency in pronouncing Champa, really really solid episode all round. Both Jason's did a phenomenal job! Schemmel and Sabat played off really well here, moments like Goku being confused or Vegeta telling him not to touch the floor
I know the recap episode is gonna be right around the corner and is gonna be a buzzkill but thnakfully it is sooner rather than later!

I'm really not feeling Champa's voice at all. His Japanese VA makes him sound annoying but funny (however he knows how to darken his voice a bit too), the English VA just sounds plain annoying. I watched the same episode again in Japanese and the huge differences between the two are pretty clear. Vados however sounds absolutely amazing...I love her VA.
The only thing I don't think I'll get used to is them calling Hakaishin's "Destroyers". I would of preferred if they simply used "God of Destruction" but I assume the reason they use destroyer is to match the mouth flaps...?

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Steve Simmons translates "Hakaishin" as "Destroyer" in the Japanese subtitles too just fyi and for the dub I think it's definitely more lip flap related as in Xv2 I've seen them use "God of Destruction".DainIronfoot wrote:I'm really not feeling Champa's voice at all. Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Seeing as they already introduced "God of Destruction" in the dub, & the movies also used it, as does the manga & pretty much anyone who watches the show, it's pretty much been introduced as, basically, shorthand for that moniker. It is for lip flaps, which as Baggie_Saiyan already told gohan_black, is what the dub is trying to do. The dialogue isn't always 100%, nor could it or should it always be. The dialogue in a dub needs to be at least accurate & the acting needs to be good, which is how I judge them. As long as you have those as the base for how you do a dub, it's fine if there are a few creative liberties taken here & there, hence why I still love the dubbed version of the scene where Goku lets himself be punched away by Mr. Satan, because it took a liberty, but a funny one in a place where it didn't really matter. It's also why I still like the TFS version of the Cell Games Reenactment in Kai before Toei forced FUNi to replace the audio. It's semi-inaccurate, since they mostly wrote their own script, but since the entire point was to have 2 minutes of levity anyways, I don't see that as being that bad. Same for them referring to Beerus & Chama as "Destroyers," it's in their titles as being "gods of destruction," so it's not that bad. It's just a bit of shorthand they use in the dub. Plus, it's only 3 syllables like the Japanese word, so it fits the timings & flaps well.DainIronfoot wrote:I'm really not feeling Champa's voice at all. Honestly, I'm glad Funimation replaced TFS' Cell Games Reenactment in Kai.
