Do you find it weird when people say Saiyan as Saiya-jin?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Depends. Typically for the ease of use I'll pronounce it as "Saiyan" (because if Daimao's subtitles don't have a problem with it, then why should I?), but if I'm on the phone with Suupaa Gohan 2 and DragonBall somehow gets mentioned in passing, she'll stress how ashamed she is that I use the dub pronunciation and for a time I'll go with "Saiya-jin" instead.

Gah, what'cha gonna do? She's a purist. :D

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Honestly, I've always used Saiyan. While I'm not agreeing with the dub or anything, I just see it as an English pronounciation. I think if you're going to say Saiya-jin then you should use that was of categorizing every nation. America-jin for example(note: I'm not fluent in Japanese, but you know what I'm getting at). I do want to say that I'm not mocking anyone who uses that term. Saiya-jin does roll of the tounge rather nicely. But anyways, that's just my two cents.
Elitism is a very bad personality trait. I'd rather deal with an eager to learn moron than a mean-spirited, angsty piece of shit.

"Say-yun", "Sai-ya-jin", or "Sai-yan"... it doesn't matter to me. I wish they said "Sai-yan" in the dub as that's how I read it in the manga, but when random people who watch the show and/or play the games say it whatever way they know or choose, I don't correct them. I just freely say it as "Sai-yan" and let others say it as they please.

The only pronounciation thing that I regualrly am an asshole about is Kaio Ken. It irks me a lot to hear "Kay-o-ken" instead of the actual pronounciation. It irks me even more that FUNimation "corrected" it to "Kay-o-ken" in the latest redub for the season sets.
